  1. Ahh, a NEW mega-run is on the immediate horizon. JPD43 and I will be heading out Thursday in a quest for northern California counties. We are after 22 counties in 3 days or so.

If anyone wants the routes, they are all public kml's.

I can't wait until Nascarfam, The Hubby, & Wolfgirl go for 23 counties up there.... :D

  2. Overheard at the recent MAC Event:

    1. Nascarfam can't keep up with the The Hubby - so he is setting his sights on catching and passing BOGA's cache count. According to Greg, once he catches BOGA, it will be a piece of cake to stay ahead. :P

    2. The Hubby says that BOGA can not put out a kayaking cache that will be too hard for him and deranja. B)

  3. I am way confused..... a normality for me but, on the tipping point, what do you mean imposter (conterfit) one?

In May you said you replaced it but it was just in a bag. In June I brought a film can for the bag and placed it back where it was found. Was that the imposter one? Or was another added later? Was I an unwitting accomplis to a felony (new geocache law) :(

Hmmm. This is not what BOGA described as to what happened...... Bill??? :)
  4. What the heck are you all talking about? :P

Kim... here's the facts and nothing but the facts.....

    1. BOGA has a cache in a SUPERB area, perfect hide and a just a little stroll in the mountains.

    2. Someone who CLAIMS to be a "local" to the area tried to find it, at least twice, and maybe three times.

    3. That same person begged BOGA for hints and even major spoilers.

    4. That same person finally convinced BOGA "that it wasn't there."

    5. That same person was given permission to log the find, even though that same person never really found it.

    6. BOGA checked the cache to find that it was REALLY THERE!

    7. BOGA is now asking is if that same person's log should be deleted.

    8. That same person is now trying to DIVERT the attention to a totally new subject that concerns a cache miles and miles away from the cache in question.

SO, THE QUESTION REMAINS... if you can't find a cache that is really there.... should you be allowed to log it??

    ---------------------------------------------------

Now, as to the red herring recently suggested by tmkbk - "I have another question. How can three out of the area cachers (who had already gotten back home) get a FTF (in our area) within several minutes of the cache being published up in our area...AND the cache is so evilly camoed to boot? Hmmm? Hmmm?"

    a) Cachers from out of "the area" are really good!

b] How does tmkbk know it was "evilly camoed" when she hasn't even touched it?

    c) How do you spell " S O U R G R A P E S ? "

    :ph34r::unsure::lol:

  5. Question: If you received a series of DNF's from a cacher that assures you that the cache is MIA... and so you go up to look at the cache - which is in the only logical location - and you find the cache was right where it should be... do you think her find log should be deleted and she should have to go find the correct cache? :o:)

Bill, I think you should ask tmkbk that question. She seems to have it all together and would give you a sound, reasonable, and logical answer. :D
  6. What a weekend to end a great caching week. We cached our way down the mountain and saved 5150 for the grand finally. I'm not sure why anyone would log it as a DNF unless they simply got to the hunting area and common sense over came them! :D

Now I need to get logging!

Well said Bill! The event was awesome in that we only needed 495 more folks to make it a MEGA event! But we made the best of it, finding three of Bill's CLASSIC HIDES, having a couple great meals (trading stories), sleeping in the cold, and then caching our way back to the lowlands. Totally awesome. And I have PHOTOGRAPHIC evidence.

  7. By the way. Back to the sport or what have you question. I was looking at the main page for Geocaching.com and it say right at the top "The Sport where you are the search engine" so there you have it. it is official. I was right. Thank you....

The Groundspeak Lackeys have spoken! So it is; so it shall be!

    Nice find Mr. NascarFam

Whoa. Not so fast. Here is a quote, also directly from geocaching.com, "Getting Started with Geocaching

Geocaching (pronounced geo-cashing) is a worldwide game of hiding and seeking treasure.

  8. Thank you all that came out to this picnic in Riverbank. It was alot of fun. We will have to do it agian soon. Nice to meet some new people and had a great time. Glad to see the Deranga's back. OK Now where is tag? now that I am takin off the list of can not find.

Ahem. Part of your sentence was to cease and desist talking about CVC Tag on the Forums. Short memory?
  9. I agree with Nascar Fam...I like to remember them as well. I can literally take you to all the caches I have ever found.

I am intrigued by the Turkey Day run. Oh...Hmmm...Oh...Hummm...not too sure. A bit far for a short weekend.

I got to thinking (I know, that's dangerous!) but I'd bet we could put together a dynamite route for a mega run in the Sacramento area. And, if there was a way we could get bikes up there, that would be even better. Hmmm. :)
  10. I see the delay also ... I have 3 queries that run every week on friday to update for new caches. Up to this week, they religiously ran between midnight and 2:30am pacific. It is now 10am pacific and I still have not seen any of them today ... let's hope this is a temporary thing and the frog sorts out the delays ...

Ditto for me. I have 3 PQ's scheduled for today, and so far (at 10:10 am) - nothing.
  11. L :DL! Ummm, I meant: "It would be GREAT to have someone else with me to witness the greatness of the EXPERT cachers in this group!"

    Yeah yeah!! THAT's the ticket!!!

:( Hey this legal threat stuff really works! Thanks Ted! ;)

Wow! That has to be the easiest legal work I've ever done. :) By the way Tom, where should I send the bill. :D

  13. Wouldn't it be the other way around? It is the GAME, hobby, or activity (geocaching) that leads you the the SPORT (hiking to find a cache, racing to be FTF, etc.)?:wub:
OK guys, here's the question to ponder for a while:

a] Is tarring a game or a sport?

b] Is feathering a game or a sport?

c] Does it matter whether you are the tarree/fetheree or the tarrer/featherer?

  14. I've got your back on this one Greg...It is definitely a sport.

I have heard that they may introduce Geocaching in the next Olympics!

Now if that happens would they develop a test to rule out cheaters (like cycling & doping)? :yikes:

WHATEVER you do, do not try searching the internet to find the difference between a game and a sport. You may find something like this:

You're confused because the word GAME has several meanings. You can

play a game of sports, but you can't sport a game. To illustrate

this, think of the Olympics. They are called the OLYMPIC GAMES. All

the competitions are in specific Sports.

The GAME is that world-class athletes --all good at different SPORTS

--COMPETE for medals, and future endorsements.

Pocket Billiards is a sport, and you can play different games [rule

sets] within the sport: 8-ball, 9-ball, etc.. [for those that

disagree, Pocket Billiards has been declared a Sport by the **Olympic

    Committee **

Football is a sport, and when you watch it, it's a game of football.

Swimming is a sport, and there is no game of Swimming. Even a Swim

gathering is not a game, it's a Swim Meet. This is the same for

fishing, rollerskating, skiing and similiar activities.

In a game you can blame the referee (or the luck of the cards). In a

sport, win or lose, you always put forth your best effort.

Baseball is the sport, the "World Series" is a Baseball Game.

  15. (Wait. Is my iPhone a Pocket PC?)

Nope - a POCKET PC with a built-in GPS. "If you have a GPS-enabled PocketPC device you are ready to start your adventure. " Known (Supported) Devices:

    * Garmin iQue M4

    * Mitac Mio 168

    * Mio DigiWalker™ P550

  16. Speaking of Muggle Training I am going to change the subject a bit:

I got a compliment this weekend at the event regarding the logging of my DNFs. It would be interesting to hear some feedback on this issue. Case in point, look at Muggle Training The Fountain then look at the other new nearby caches and ask yourself why this cache wasn't looked for.

I REALLY APPRECIATE the logging of DNF's. And yes, Nathaniel, you get a big GOLD STAR. When a person searches for a cache, doesn't find it and then doesn't log a DNF, they are doing a disservice to subsequent finders as well as the cache owner. Since you (and only you) have logged DNF's on the "Muggle Training - the Fountain" - I plan to go check it after while. I too believe that more folks have looked than what the logs show.

So, bottom line, THANK YOU CentralCaRN for your help! :)
