  1. Has everyone seen that the UTAH STATE PARKS is celebrating their 50th anniversary by hosting caches in each of the state parks? http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...Utah+State+Park Also try a search for caches hidden by username "Utah State Parks" where you will find 46 caches. This is so neat to see that the Utah State Park system not only supports geocaching, but also proactive in supporting the sport! The RANGERS are actually maintaing the caches by keeping them up to date and with swag in the caches. I hope the California State Park folks see this and do something similar! My experiences so far is that the California State Parks and the East Bay Regional Parks either "tolerate" or actually "discourage" the sport. I for one will send a note to the Utah State Parks applauding their approach.
  2. I agree - it's a great system once you realize all you need to do is load different files as you travel. I'll be doing a loop of all the states west of the Mississippi this summer and my XL will have geocaches for the entire trip loaded. You can't do that with a unit that has a limit of 500 or even 1000. The XL (and the 500/600's) is basically "unlimited" - my 2gb card is only 50% used right now with 30 geocache files, 30 poi files, street maps for the western half of the us and topo maps for Northern California. I usually load the files with about 175 caches each to allow for any child waypoints or adding stages of multi-caches.
  3. RATTLESNAKE ALERT A small rattlesnake was found Saturday in a tree at the site of S'Mores and Snores (a MAC event next weekend). We were hoping we could get it and save it as a pet for BOGA, but the rangers took it to a new home. Maybe he has a brother there though....
  4. As luck would have it, an "inside spy" help the jailed cache break out. He or she is bringing it to "S'Mores and Snores" for me. It's nice to have friends in the right places. BTW, I do plan to do another "Hidden in the Picture" soon. But since BOGA VERY SELDOM gets this far south, the FTF should go to someone else.
  5. Reminder that the MAC EVENT, S'Mores and Snores II is just 3 weeks away. Just in case everyone did not notice, you do not have to camp to attend the event. The Saturday gathering is a regular half-day event with a pot luck lunch (please note what you are bringing), fellowship, some caching fun, and perhaps a CITO to a nearby island. (The CITO depends on whether anyone brings a boat and will play taxi!) There is a cache on the island that has not been found for about 5 years... 6. Hi Team Tek and welcome back! The last time I saw Lee (on the Murder Mystery Train event) - he seemed fine. We chatted a bit but he didn't mention taking a trip or taking some time off.
  7. Try the "My Account" page about half-way down on the right side. Download Geocache browser in Google Earth *About Google Earth KML Link: http://www.geocaching.com/kml/buildnetworkkml.aspx
  8. Well, while you guys were playing with your clocks, I had to take my wife to an event near SFO airport. Since CVC tag was right on the way, I grabbed her. No, I did not leave a teepee or even log the find. Instead I'm taking her to a reliable OB-GYN to have her spayed (or whatever the term is for her kind.) After that's over, I'm not sure I will put her out again. Seems like she's sowed plenty of wild oats already.
  9. All from different fathers? Take your pick: hussy, jade, slattern, tart, tramp, wanton, wench, floozy, trollop, strumpet.
  10. FYI. I had the exact same issue with my 600. I sent it in for repair. It came back AND STILL DIDN'T WORK. I sent it in a second time (Magellan paid for postage both directions this time.) When it came back, it was perfect and has been fine ever since. The good news is that the support folks were actually very good each time I called. And on the final call, I got in within a minute. Good luck.
  11. Yeah, the weather has been fantastic but no one is out looking for the poor guy. He was last placed on February 22 almost in the center of the CVC area. Looks like it's time to retire. Maybe one of the events we should have on the Mystery Train is a formal, final Wake for Tag? ahhh just because he isn't being found by the same person 5 times during a china trip or european trip doesn't mean he should be retired.... the length between finds just means that people have a life right now... now that the weather is nice I might attempt him..... So who will volunteer to bring CVC Tag to the train ride? Wake music....as in a funeral wake for poor ole' tag.
  12. If you reload the new firmware version (2.10) from the Magellan site, it installs the basemap as well as the new firmware. You may try that. Here ---> http://www.magellangps.com/support/softwar...ates/XL_210.asp
  13. Photom~ Are you thinking like I am thinking about reverting back to the EU V1.55 ??? You first then post if it works OK !! No, as recall the EU 1,55 had the extra screens, but did not have the auto-route feature. Between those two featuress, autoroute is higher on my list.
  14. Yeah, the weather has been fantastic but no one is out looking for the poor guy. He was last placed on February 22 almost in the center of the CVC area. Looks like it's time to retire. Maybe one of the events we should have on the Mystery Train is a formal, final Wake for Tag?
  15. OK. Bill has been been nagging about this for at least two years. So, I'm thinking I will go - maybe as a volunteer or something. I do have a great 4x4 but it's not exactly "high clearance." I have had it in and out of places that I probably should not have gone, but why press my luck? (For those who are curious, it's a Honda Pilot.) Anyone want to ride along and tent camp?
  16. The good news: I called Magellan and got in IMMEDIATELY!! That is a first. The bad news: I'm losing my mind. The support tech said that the XL has only 4 screens. Never had any more. He checked with his supervisors who confirmed that "fact." So, I guess I need to have a mental exam, as the 4 additional sceens I saw for a week were only in my imagination. ------------------ I was the first one to report this problem.......
  17. What the heck?? After updating and using the XL last weekend, things have changed. a. It still shows software version 9.2.10 b. Auto Re-route is still there c. Projection is still there BUT d. "ACTIVE MAP" has reverted back to "ACTIVE SETUP" and e. The additional nav screens are no longer there. Any gurus want to explain this??
  18. I just checked my XL and find that the new update was installed into internal memory, not the SD Card. I don't know where the info about the SD card came from, but it is incorrect. When I did the update, there was a second update too - that updated the BASEMAPS.
  19. Yes! I took my XL on a long day of caching yesterday and tried the new NA features. I am impressed! Autorouting is quick to react - works very well. Projection works great too, but you do have to change your North reference on another screen first (unless it is already in the right reference.) It would be neater if you had a check box for True/Mag right on the projection screen. Not quite intuitive, but to get the projection distance in feet, you first enter a small mileage number - like .08. It then converts to feet which can be edited. The "found feature" on geocaches is great. Wish it also included finds on POI's though. All in all, a very nice surprize, thanks Magellan.
  20. Yes. Lame. Very Lame. So what was it?
  21. I just downloaded and installed XL's update 2.10. What a shock to see the "auto reroute" feature! Has anyone tried this yet??
  22. Hey Brute, Long time no see! I join Mrs2fer in hoping you mom starts doing better. -Tom-
