  1. Are you looking for the caches on your GPS by "Nearest?" If you search by "Name" they are probably in the GPSr since by "Nearest" only shows the first 50 caches closest to your location.
  2. Check out this thread to see what you are up against . . . Welcome to the "addiction."
  3. Welcome to the Forums! The only way to get photos into your Gallery is to upload them to a cache log.

Welcome to the Forums! Apparently some GPS units have no way to enter coordinates . . . That may be the case with the one you have. Getting a handheld GPS unit on which it is easy to enter coordinates is a better way to go.
  5. The HotSync problem only occurs with XP "Media Edition." And, apparently, that isn't even a problem for everyone who tries to HotSync an m-Series Palm with "Media Edition." I have a Palm m515 and use the card reader to transfer the .pdb files, Exported from GSAK, to the "Launcher" folder on the 256 MB card. That works fine. A Palm m505 is an excellent choice for caching. It should be easy to read in bright sunlight, something that cannot be said for Palms that cost much more.
  6. For auto-routing, you need to purchase the Garmin City Navigator maps. I got mine in a package deal with the beanbag auto-mount and cigarette-lighter adapter for a bit less than all those things would have cost separately. The Topo maps are also handy and because they do not have an Unlock code, you can purchase the older version of those on eBay for less money.
  7. Anyone who hasn't seen this movie yet, "Who killed the electric car?," should see it. If only GM had stayed with their wonderful and well-loved EV-1 electric car, they wouldn't be closing down plants and putting people out of work today. They would be ten years ahead of Toyota and Honda by now in economical, zero-emission vehicles sold.
  8. First you have to upload the image somewhere. For the Forums, you could use this page. After you upload it and view the full-size image, copy the URL of that picture. That's all there is to it.
  9. The least expensive Garmin 'H' connects to a computer with the Serial Port, so if you get that one, make sure your computer has a Serial Port. Check out Garmin's "Comparison Page" to see which models connect with USB so you have fewer problems connecting and transfering data. If you don't want the "High Sensitivity" receiver, you could see what the prices are on eBay for the discontinued Legend C or Vista C. Those might be cheap now.
  10. Oh boy, does My Account page look weird right now . . .
  11. Can you link to a profile? I enjoy looking at the different icons even though I stopped actively seeking them out a couple years ago. Icon SP was created to keep track of the different icons, but that list is by no means complete. I always send Icon SP the tracking numbers for any icon I own that they don't have. In fact, I just saw one I need to send in.... I met this cacher one time. On my slow dialup connection, I'm still waiting for all the icons to show up . . . after more than five minutes of waiting . . . With only 538 Trackables Moved or Discovered, I'm a real lightweight compared to him . . . Edit for typo . . .
  12. You can log an Archived cache. I did that recently when I removed the container for a cache that had been Archived for more than a year and which had an "absentee" owner.
  13. Welcome to the Forums! The Legend HCx is worth the extra money because of the 'x' meaning it has "Expandable Memory" for adding more maps and putting Custom POIs on the card. The Venture HC is a great unit also, but you can't "grow" with it as much as you can with the Legend HCx.
  14. For me, the best FTF prize is an empty logbook. I wouldn't worry about a "prize," although un-activated Geocoins are very nice.
  15. I have a Garmin Vista HCx and it puts me right at GZ, or very close to it. Before that, my Vista C and monochrome Vista did the same. Do you have your Magellan set to the right Datum, WGS84?
  16. Sometimes the "One Spot" at your local Target store has some interesting, camping-related items. Also, your local Dollar Store might have some good items. For unique items, I shop local Thrift Stores. You just never know what you might find there. I get ammo cans for cache containers at an Auto Parts place here that has them. Those might be available elsewhere in your community. Lock 'n Lock containers, also available from Target or Wal-Mart are good waterproof containers. Cammo tape is sometimes available in the Paint or Sporting Goods department at Wal-Mart.
  17. Hmmm . . . that's interesting. I've tried logging off the Limited account, logging in as Administrator, with no other programs running, and I still get the Blue Screen of Death. Even doing that and then trying a transfer using Pilot Install, I would occasionally get the BSoD. Using the card reader has eliminated those scary problems.
  18. I have both a Palm m500 and an m515. They work great for caching and are easy to read in bright sunlight, something I could not do with a friend's TX. The Palm m500 I have connects with USB and you should be able to get one of those on eBay for $30, including the shipping. Cachemate is the program I use on the Palm, GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife) is the program I have on my PC to Export in the correct format for the Palm. I also use GSAK's "smart name" codes to get a useful waypoint name on my GPSr. To get part of the Name, the Size of the container, the Type of cache (Traditional, Multi, Virtual, Puzzle), the Difficulty and Terrain (based on a 10-point scale) I use this code in GSAK. %smart=9 %con1%typ1%dif1%ter1 To get part of the hint, I use this code in the Waypoint Description blank of the "Send To GPS" dialogue box: %Name=10 %hint With these codes, sometimes I don't have to get out the Palm, until I log my find in Cachemate.
  19. Welcome to the Forums! One of Garmin's newest 'H' units sells for less than $100, but it connects to your computer with the Serial Port. Check out Garmin's website and their "Comparison Page" to see the 'H' models available that connect with USB. The 'H' stands for High Sensitivity. The 'x' stands for Expandable Memory. The best, least expensive is the Legend HCx. The Vista HCx has almost all the features of the 60CSx and is a more compact size.
  20. You could run a 500-cache PQ for each city (just in case you have time to look for more than 100 . . . ). Then, put each PQ into a separate database in GSAK. Create a folder on your hard drive called "Trip." In that folder, Export six files, each from the separate databases: City1.gpx City2.gpx City3.gpx City4.gpx City5.gpx City6.gpx Then, save an icon you want to use for the Geocaches on your computer and put it into that same folder with six different names. City1.bmp City2.bmp City3.bmp City4.bmp City5.bmp City6.bmp Now, you'll have Custom POIs with a little icon for each of the 3000 caches. To turn the Custom POI into a Waypoint, as long as you aren't at the 500 waypoint limit, just "Save" the POI. Here is helpful link: POI Loader
  21. Did you install it from the Administrator account? If so, are you trying to run it from a "limited" account now? If that is the case, you might give the "Limited" account Administrator priviledges and then reinstall Mapsource from that account. After rebooting, change it back to "Limited." If that doesn't help at all, knowing the OS might help someone else answer the question.
  22. You could contact your local Reviewer and give them the coordinates of that cache. I'm sure they can check and see which Archived cache it is, if in fact it is an Archived cache. Premium Members used to be able to see the locations of Archived caches using the GC.com maps, and they have promised we'll get that feature back someday, but it hasn't happened yet . . .
  23. As long as they aren't going to be away from the vehicle for very long, since the batteries don't last as long as those in the Legend HCx or Vista HCx, and they don't get caught in a sudden rainstorm, or drop the Nuvi while fumbling with a cache container, the Nuvi 200 will work . . .
  24. I have seen people who use Plucker recommend the Sunrise Desktop instead of the Plucker program. It works better, apparently. I'm sorry I cannot help beyond that because I have always used Cachemate on my Palm m515 and GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife) on my PC.
  25. I have both the Invisible Shield on my Vista HCx, and use the Garmin neoprene case. I have to slip the case off frequently to see detail on the screen, but it is worth the trouble to protect the GPSr.
