  1. I'm thinking about that Geko 101 or whatever the number was...what's everyone's opinion on that device?
  2. thats the only problem so far --what GPS's are good and which are outdated? -- like is that magellan new and a good buy? i can't really tell also, i appreaciate all the help so far, thanks a lot
  3. Hey im pretty new to the game, have done about 20 with friends and i am looking for a relatively cheap (under 50) GPS that is still reliable and accurate
  4. well if it helps at all, all i want is a reliable GPS that doesn't need anything special except that 1)its somewhat accurate 2) I can enter coordinates 3) i can save coordinates of locations (doesn't matter how little as long as minimum is like 10) 4)it can tell me which direction to go and have an accurate compass thingy
  5. whats gc.com? won't come up...do you mean geocahing.com? looking around for that .......
  6. My technique is interesting.... when you get to the cache, stay in the footprints you stopped in (don't walk around) then when you are done with the cache, hop around backwards or whatever to the nearest tree. Then jump up and down around the tree and run incirlces to lots and lots of trees around there and jump in circles around them too. pretty much what some others have said, but oh well
  7. Two of my friends have GPSrs and so whenever i want to go i have to ask them if they want to go first, otherwise its a no-go. Also, there are some they found before i started and getting them to go to those is a hassle. I don't have lots of dough to spend and i was wondering where i could get a used GPS that is still good and if used GPSs tend to start deteriorating over age. Also, not sure if i could ask or not, but does anyone have one they want to sell/ give away to a new and enthusiastic geocacher?
  8. i found a pocket knife in a cache in my area and took it. The only thing that worries me is....what if (only a what if) some like murderer or something cleans off his pocket knife and stashes it in a cache, so it gets farther and farther away and no one will ever know...
  9. i live in a small town in NEPA so you wouldn't have to worry about that. If u want, our area code is 18452, check out some caches in the area...I think there might only be two that actually end in peckville. (my town)
  10. I've decided that the easiest place that i can hide a cache and still have a view are these pole lines in my area that have a pretty good view. My friend had a good idea--have coords that lead to a set of 3 telephone poles together, then put like a little viewfinder, or some kind of sight rail attached to the pole, that when u look down it, it points to my cache. Another cool cache i saw before was a guy that bought a plastic power box and pipe (like the kind that supply power to a lamp post. The guy put the power box on a sign post, so that it fit in on the first glance, but upon discretion can be picked out as not-fitting. Thanks for the help, hopefully ill be set up soon.
  11. yea, my goal is to have a multi-cache with maybe 4-5 parts maybe make one part a micro, you know and stuff like that, and i will check Darkmoon's cache's out, thanks.
  12. Hey guys, I'm a relatively new cacher- been going less than a month and i have 16 finds. I have decided to make a cache in my area and i want to make it as challenging as possible but still have people find it..occasionally, I'm thinking i want to make a multi-cache that goes throughout my town. My town isn't very big and each part would be probably less than a mile from the first, and mostly drivable. I want to include several different methods for each part,(ex. Tag with coords, puzzle, pictures, monument numbers) and have them hidden well. If any of you experienced cachers could help me, (suggest methods to hide coordinates or interesting places [obviously not nescessarily specific to my town]) that would be great. Thanks! P.S. If i was putting a micro like under a bench in a park, would i need park permission?
