  1. I didn't need reminding about changing the clocks, but I didn't know you could change the time settings for the forums, up until now I've been having to correct for the time difference in my head! Life should be much simpler in the future.
  2. I'd agree with Moote, also looking at the Google Maps link and overlaying the satellite image would also seem to match the clue. Have you had a look at the Streetmap link from the cache page, and were you in the right area, or were you miles out?
  3. If it was the coin linked above then the owner brought a bag of coins with him, and a printed list of the contents to help attendees to log them, however he did say that one of his coins had inadvertantly escaped into the wild at a previous event however it was still on the list, I think he was hoping to get it back at some point.
  4. In the past I have used http://www.avery.co.uk who have downloadable MS Word templates for all of their laser printer label sets, including their circular ones. Nothing to stop you using their templates and then printing on plain paper.
  5. Mine's an amalgam of me (Martyn) and Slartibartfast of HHGTTG fame, he got an award for Norway you know! Don't really know where it came from but I wanted a nickname for Geocaching & Geographing, but something I wasn't using elsewhere, and I think I was working my way through the last series of HHGTTG at the time. The avatar shows Slarti with trekking pole in one hand and Etrex banana in the other.
  6. Attended this last night and really enjoyed it. I think there's potential for a regular event! Anyhow I've got a question on what's the correct form for logging coins & bugs following events. I came away with "Cache Flag 2", however I realise that other attendees will want to log it too so whats the normal practice? As I see it there are the following options: 1. Give everyone a day or so to log & drop it back into the event, then I'll retrieve it and it'll stay on my profile. 2. I retrieve it now, let others grab it to log it and then I'll grab it back after a few days and it'll stay on my profile. Does it matter?
  7. The Banana Splits sounded like "Fleagle, Beagle, Drooper, and Snork" in the song but I think the second one was actually Bingo. Snork was the elephantine one & we had a kid at school nicknamed Snork 'cos of his big nose - he's probably grown up with all sorts of psychological problems! My nick was Bungle 'cos my haircut made me look like Bungle from Rainbow, ny psychological problems manifest themselves by going out hunting tupperware in the woods . As for Robinson Crusoe, White Horses, Belle & Sebastian (you forgot Tarzan & Daktari !) etc. Me & the missus were talking about this during the last school hols. We've both grown up with fond memories of the special progs that cropped up during the hols but nowadays theres a nonstop stream of kids programming, I wonder whether my kids will be reminiscing about any programming in 30 years time or whether it will all just be one amorphous mass of cheap foreign cartoons with nothing outstanding in their memories?
  8. I reckon it's about time we had a contribution from "The Wombles" or "Beds Clangers" after all we've been talking about them behind their backs,
  9. We certainly had "Hector's House" in the Midlands too. "I'm a foolish old Hector...." They had Hector's House oop north aswell - one of my college mates used to watch it, and she grew up in Newcastle. But did you know Hector was French? a-la Magic Roundabout. Je Suis un vieux Hector stupide! (don't blame me, blame BabelFish)
  10. I'm sure that he played a pro card player called Robbie Box or similar in a series a few years back. He was the main character but I'm blowed if I can remember ithe programme name. Yep, that was Ray and it was called "Big Deal", he was also in Cathy Come Home.
  11. If I've read you right then you're after something smaller than the run of the mill foodbags, if so try Maplins: http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?TabID=...No=3980&doy=3m3
  12. I've always been interested in getting out & about & first heard about Geocaching years ago but forgot all about it. Then read an article in a walking mag in 2004 which mentioned it & thought it'd be a good way to persuade the kids to come out. Bought myself a GPS for Christmas 2004 & had our first DNF Boxing Day but managed to get the hang of it by New Years Day 2005 and logged our first find .
  13. You could always drop them in the "UK Travel Bug retirement home" :- http://stats.geocacheuk.com/caches/osgb_ca...?g=220822&log=y
  14. How about carrying with you a printout of the nearest TB hotel for every airport you're gonna be flying through. Then if customs insist on confiscating a TB, just hand it over with a printout and say "Fair enough but would you mind popping by here when you finish your shift and put it into the ammo box?" You never know you could recruit some more Geocachers!
  15. Can't be sure whether I'll be able to make any particular date at the mo, but I'll definitely be there if I'm able to get there.
  16. I don't think I'd be comfortable searching for a regular cache around graves, but I've done a few which required getting dates off gravestones and have no probs with that. I did do this virtual: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...df-374111043afc which was quite nice as the cacher requests that you take some flowers when you visit, for someone who's been dead for 150 years her grave is well tended and has a regular supply of flowers. 17. It's a 1L tupperware beaker disguised as a Buzzard.
  18. I don't have a problem with caches asking for additional info to be supplied in order for a cache to be logged, but the cache in the OP has turned into something of a TB prison. If one of my TBs was in there and I was close enough then I'd be tempted to raid the cache and rescue my TB and any other that I thought had languished too long. After all the TB belongs to the person who created/released it and if it has a mission then the first responsibility is to the TB and it's owner and not the cache owner. M:
  19. Well according to :- http://x2fwww.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/...h_Timber_Street They do Real ale (Deuchars IPA and Timothy Taylors), and they've got the "Cask Marque" which means they serve cask ales and know how to handle them. Sounds like it should satisfy the sandle wearing beardy real ale fans. I'll definitely be interested (If only for the Timothy Taylors) but won't be wearing my sandles and don't have a beard, contrary to what you might think from my avatar. Martyn.
  20. well any of the following might help:- Name of the pub Name of the brewery that own it Name of some of the bitters that they sell
  21. I recently published my first 2 caches, which were both multis. I put in the location for the first stage as a waypoint, and then in the text referenced it as "first go to waypoint STAGE1 below", etc. However I had a mail from a cacher who had printed off the cache page in PDF format and when they got to the area found that the it didn't include the details of the waypoints, so they were a little stuck. For now I've put the co-ords for the first stage in the text as well as in the waypoints to aviod this happening again but this seems a little unneccessary to me. Is it possible to have the PDF download also include the waypoints descriptions? Martyn.
  22. Here's a log by another virtual cacher, although at least HarryKrishna puts a bit of effort into it and seems to have a sense of humour: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?II...d2&LID=12508579
  23. Isn't that what the encrypted "Additional Hints" section is for? I've seen some where the hints are very explicit - e.g. "in a hole beneath the large rotten tree stump" some are less so, it depends how helpfull the cache hider wants to be.
  24. Well I published my first 2 caches over the weekend just gone. Having seen AC had logged some caches in my area recently I'd already decided that if he logged mine I was going to delete the logs without hesitation, he hasn't logged them yet though. Martyn.
