  1. I am a new lurker of sorts. I am very new so I dont have too much to say when someone has a question or anything, but enjoy sharing my experiences and finds. This is a great hobby for me and gets me out with my dog to enjoy some nice parks or wilderness areas.
  2. Well, I am very new to this, so most of the ones I have found have been park the car and walk about 400ft or so, so not that much goes with me...just my GPS, pencil and notepad for clues and notes, compass, some small toys to place, and my cellphone. As I get more into it, I will probably start to carry a day pack with some basic first aid stuff, flashlights, water, stuff geared for a full day of geocaching.
  3. For anyone that might or still interested in a Garmin eTrex Legend, I just ordered mine from Walmart.com, it was listed at $135 and they have a bundle that includes Mapsource and a car adapter for a little over $200. I would have gone with just the etrex (yellow one), but for $30 more, I got 8mb memory and PC interface, so that sealed the deal. I am really pleased with my legend, since I am new to this and it has done really well. I would recomend to anyone getting one though, try to find a GPS that is PC compatible, entering way points by hand is no fun at all.
  4. Yep, read through some of it, not all of it though, still reading. Basically just wanted to say hello to everyone and that I am new to the game so to speak. I really enjoy reading through the forums and learning what other people are saying, so this was just my way of introducing myself!
  5. I didn't really see an "Introduction" area so I figured this was a good place to post. I am very new to Geocaching and well really excited to get out there and find some more. I am a student at the University of Memphis working on my Bachelors of Computer Engineering Technology. My hobbies include, well that is, when I have time, online gaming, walking my dog...well my dog really walks me, I just tag along, and now geocaching! Any tips and stuff you guys and gals want to send my way would be great and when I have any I will gladly share! I know this is a large forum, but I will do my best to be a big help to the community and provide any insight if and when I can! I just got my first GPS, the garmin etrex legend, well it should arrive at my doorstep in a couple of days anyway. I am very excited to get out there and find some caches! Take Care, Tanner
  6. Ok, so I am very new to geocaching and found my first cache without any GPS but I decided that I wanted to really get into it, so I ordered the Garmin eTrex Legend. It seemed like a good buy with the PC interface cable and the 8mb memory, but what I am wondering is, are there any problems or tips I should know about when using my new GPS. My girlfriend decided to get into it as well, so she ordered one and if anyone has one of these units, is there anything we should look out for or any little quirks we should be aware of. Also any good tips for using this as well, this is my first GPS device. Thanks
  7. Hi everyone, I am very very new to all of this, and I reside in the west TN (Collierville area to be exact) and would like to be be a part of or help out with this in anyway possible. It would be nice to be able to ask some fellow cacher's in my area about some of the caches they are finding and what areas have some good finds, and what not. I know someone suggested this earlier, but Dot Net Nuke is a great platform for setting up fourms and message boards, I helped start up a group for some adult pc/console gamers and we used Dot Net Nuke. This is how I found out about geocache in the first place, someone posted up a link to the website thus starting my new hobby. Anyway, I think it would be a great idea to have a west TN group and would like very much to help out in anyway I can. I can get you any information about how to set up a dot net nuke server and what we used to build our community.
