  1. My Vista never died after 500 or so finds, but after ricocheting off of cliff walls and drowning in gulleys, it is so scratched and dented that I use it only as a backup now. I only mention it because it was purchased BEFORE a similar Vista was acquired by The Outlaw. His looks pretty pristine after over 1850 finds (many of them more than once-- helping other cachers the way that you mentioned). Then again, he has six eyeballs and a 12-volt battery implanted in his head....so maybe it's just a coincidence...
  2. Wow...I get lucky a few times and I'm branded for life...
  3. Five_user saved my bacon on the averaging issue averaging. (I really don't know how to insert a link, so bare with me). What it boils down to is that my friend's 60C had the same problem. Once five_user gave me the tip of clearing the memory, the problem was resolved. In his words, "Hold down page and enter while powering the unit on....select Yes to clear the user memory. " I did this on my friend's 60C, and now she can average again. She has Metroguide 4.0 installed. The screwy thing for me is that my 60CS came with firmware 3.0 already installed. I tried the averaging function first thing out of the box and it worked like a charm. Then, when I installed Metro 4.0, the averaging function got zapped -- WITHOUT any firmware update. I cleared the memory, and the averaging function returned. It gets better: I installed a slew of City Select maps into the 60CS, and the averaging function was not effected-- still works like a champ. Apparently certain Garmins are finnicky about changing maps or firmware with existing waypoints. Best bet is to backup all the waypoint data first, install the new maps or update the firmware, then clear the memory (the maps remain intact). THEN you can reload your waypoints and tracks, and you and your GPSr will be happy....
  4. I just mine at 2:50 CST from gpsdiscount.com. Shipped Monday, and even though I asked for 2nd day air, it arrived today. By the way, i checked-- it comes with Software version 3.0 installed.
  5. A friend of mine has the 60C (I'm still waiting on the CS myself). I have been helping her install maps and such, and everything has worked like a champ, including the firmware upgrade. Today, she showed me that, since the firmware upgrade, she no longer has the ability to utilize the "averaging" feature when marking a waypoint. I know for a fact that the 60C averaged quite well prior to the upgrade, and my friend believes that this is one her most important features. Today, we marked a waypoint, hit the "AVE" button, but instead of the unit zipping through the number count as it had before, it just sits idle, with the count stuck on zero. I confirmed that we has a decent satellite lock (<20 feet accuracy), clear sky, and no other routing or searching functions were active. Anyone else have this problem or willing to offer any insight to its correction?
