  1. If it was free, and geocachers bought new receivers, do you think geocaching would be less fun? They are talking a much better accuracy, one metre (a.k.a. meter) according to the European Union website. European Union Galileo Information
  2. What do you think of Europe's new satellite network? How will it affect GPS? How will it affect the US? How will it affect Geocaching? Here is an article from a UK publisher... Europe's Space Race with the US Begins In my best Linda Richman, "Talk amongst yourselves."
  3. The wife got me about 15 containers to place caches along with blank logbooks, tiny pencils, and loot. The 'rents got me an update for my City Select software. Finally up to version 7 now.
  4. Just to follow up... Thank you for contacting Garmin Cartography. We are a little limited on how the data displays in the fact that our data provider, NavTeq, codes all the names of the roads before sending us the data. However, I will pass your suggestion along in hopes that in the future we might be able to let the user decide between displaying primary/local names or secondary names. Thanks for the input and please let me know if you have any other questions. Regards, Nathan Garmin's response was pretty much as expected, but maybe we'll see changes in the future if enough people request this guidance text option. See below for the form! http://www.garmin.com/cartography/mapSource/errorForm.html -hbear
  5. Thanks Sputnik57. I had a feeling that the reason why I couldn't find a setting on the GPSr was that the problem lies with the City Select maps versus my 76CS. Maybe I'll send a request to Garmin's mapping department and see what they have to say. Your post office idea is a good one. We'll see though... -hbear & jroo
  6. Well... there haven't been may replies as of yet, but we'll leave this topic open in case anyone comes up with an idea down the road... -hbear & jroo
  7. Hi all... Does anyone know if there is a setting to tell my 76CS to use highway numbers rather than names, and if so how to set it? I get really irritated when I am in a new area and the text name pops up for a road. I have no idea what road that matches up with. For example, how do I know that the "Yankee Division Highway" is actually Massachusetts Route 128 when I am reading road signs that are simply numbers? Thanks in advance, -hbear & jroo
  8. I too have had the Gilsson case for a bit now. I have a tough time with the center rocker with this case when I am attempting to enter text on the 76CS. I typically take it out of its case, move around the text field, and then put it back in. Maybe someone will come out with a case some day where the buttons can be accessed through the neoprene and only the plastic covers the screen. Or something like that where mud and dirt can't get in.
  9. Good to hear that we didn't screw up the travelbug game somehow... I actually did receive an email from the owner and he was happy to see that his travelbug wasn't MIA. I wonder if this information can make its way into the geocaching.com travelbug FAQ somehow... pretty much the only instructions that I found there was information on how to perform the PICKUP and PLACE functions... not too much information on the GRAB or what to do if you have found a lost bug. -hbear
  10. Okay, I did as suggested. I did a GRAB from the previous bug "holder" and then did a PLACE in the cache. At least the owner knows where the bug is now. -hbear
  11. The only two options that I see are to "grab it from MEMBERNAME" or "write note". Is there a right way and a wrong way to do this with travel bug ethics? -hbear
  12. Hello. I spotted a travelbug and wrote down it's number. I didn't pick it up as I know I won't be able to bring it anywhere near its goal anytime soon. Is there a way to log that I have simply spotted the travelbug in a particular cache (as opposed to picking it up or dropping it off)? According to geocaching.com, this travelbug has been in someone's possession since January 5th, but I saw it today in a geocache. Thanks, -hbear
  13. Are the buttons exposed on the Gilsson/Gpsgeek case or are they under a plastic shell along with the screen? I can't tell from the picture on gpsgeek.com.
  14. Okay, thanks. I just ordered the Garmin Auto Nav Kit which comes with a mount so I may just take it in/out of the case since you say that it is relatively easy to do. Thanks for your help.
  15. Would either of the above mentioned cases allow the 76cs to slide right into the Garmin standard auto mount without removing the case? It isn't a real big deal to take the unit out of a case, but it would lean me towards one rather than the other. Thanks. Garmin Auto Mount
  16. Hi all... Compuplus worked out well. Ordered: January 12, 2005 at 4:54pm EST Charged: January 12, 2005 at 7:53pm EST Shipped: January 13, 2005 at 6:00pm EST Received: January 14, 2005 at 6:53pm EST Tore Open Box: January 14, 2005 at 6:54pm EST... And I haven't put it down yet! Regards, -hbear
  17. Another to check out is compuplus.com. I'm just bought a 76CS from them this evening and I'll let you know how it goes! compuplus.com
  18. Hi all... iFinder question... Does the iFinder line, or even any of the new ones, provide in-unit driving directions? I know you can get such functionality out of the Magellan Meridians by puchasing DirectRoute, and some of the Garmins (60C, 60CS, 76C, 76CS...) have this functionality built-in. Thanks, -hbear
