  1. Seriously, to the OP, come on over to the terracaching website, get yourself a couple of sponsors, and read all about it in the forums there. That's a more logical place to investigate the subject than over here.
  2. Are we still allowed to say "in before the lock" or has that phrase been banned? I can't recall and the search function isn't working.
  3. Met a jogger muggle in the park yesterday whilst out scouting caches. Made me wonder what do you call a jogger muggle, a mogger or a juggle? What other types of muggles are out there and what are their synthesized names? e.g., Runner + Muggle : Ruggle or Munner Biker + Muggle: Buggle or Miker Let's hear some other examples. This is an angst-free thread, BTW.
  4. You can earmark all of your membership money to go to server upgrades. Just check the appropriate box at renewal time. I directed all my membership money to go toward the support of new geocoin icons.
  5. If you can do a limited edition in a jacketed hollowpoint in .45 cal, I would be interested.
  6. Getting the same thing here in America's Heartland. Time to recharge the server batteries...
  7. I use LE coins as FTF prizes in very difficult puzzle caches, leave as a sig item in very exceptional caches I do around the country as a thank-you for a "bravo" cache, as well as selling some to recoup costs of minting the whole production run.
  8. This cache requires a "codeword" in order to log it, and thus is in violation of the rules, and should not have been approved. The "climbing a pole" and "calling a cop" things are red herrings.
  9. Obviously Illegal? Yes, SBA it. Dangerous? Is it rated 5 terrain stars? Then no SBA. Calling the police to report it? I'm prohibited by forum guidelines concerning "respect for the individual" from commenting on this behavior in the manner in which I would really like to.
  10. I have been informed that this is not the first geocoin medallion to feature the "likeness" of a geocacher. There have been coins made which feature for example the whole body of a geocacher, and that is also a "likeness." My usage of the word "likeness" was imprecise. This is the first geocoin medallion to prominently feature a large engraving of the cacher's head and face. That is what I meant by "likeness." Apologies for any inconvenience caused by my inaccurate choice of words.
  11. If you're willing to pay enough money, you can have any geocoin you want, even a Mount10bike v1. Problem solved.
  12. Coin makers: Make whatever coins you want, in whatever quantity, in whatever metal you want. Coin buyers: Buy whatever coins you want, in whatever quantity, in whatever metal you want. There, that takes care of the problem.
  13. Nah I'm not making one, but I was just scanning the forum titles and thought I saw this topic. Almost had a heart attack.
  14. Large container that looks like a micro? How about this: 35mm Mega-Micro A 5 Gallon Bucket, bottom painted black, lid painted grey. Log-only. The log-scroll is one of those industrial restroom-rolls of paper towels for drying hands. The 'pencil' is about half the size of a baseball bat. I always tried to position my "Hugh Jazz" caches so they were actually quite near convenient parking. The Austin cache was about 200 ft from the lot, and I used a dolly to haul it out there, fully loaded. The Wichita cache was about 100 feet from the parking lot and I employed my wife "Laura Jazz" to team-carry it out there.
  15. The Hugh Jass Cache - GCM1F9 was the largest cache in Central Texas. 24 Gallon action packer loaded to the gills with swag. It lives on as another Austin area cache, I won't say which and spoil it. Hugh Jazz Cooler Cache was a 20-gallon Coleman cooler filled with great big swag. Alas, coolers are designed to keep water in, not out. Look for a return of this one soon. It was the largest cache in Kansas while it lived. I like big caches. They're a challenge to hide and lots of fun to find. Besides, you can use large, hardback logbooks in 'em. Hugh Jass cache was a sort of ladies' diary, tied with a pink ribbon. The Hugh Jazz Cooler cache used an accountant's ledger.
  16. Last weekend I stumbled through the woods into a clearing to find two newbie cachers signing the logbook on the cache I was out looking for. I think as long as people keep getting new GPS units, they'll always look for new and fun ways to use them.
  17. The Lowracer gallery is at your disposal. Let me know if you use any. http://www.geocaching.com/profile/Default....3d-d1c71ced58a6
  18. http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#perm Cache Permanence When you report a cache on the Geocaching.com web site, geocachers should (and will) expect the cache to be there for a realistic and extended period of time. Therefore, caches that have the goal to move (“traveling caches”), or temporary caches (caches hidden for less than 3 months or for events) most likely will not be listed...
  19. Alas, they do not make a kilt large enough to cover my "Hugh Jazz." If I did wear a kilt around these h'year parts, I'd be sure to strap on a "Hugh Jazz" shootin' iron. The locals don't take kindly to dudes wearin' 'skirts' around here.
  20. You might try an online auction house, they have been seen there from time to time at reasonable prices...
  21. Increased accuracy will not kill geocaching. Geocaching is a fad that will die out on its own in a few years, much as the hula hoop did in the 50's and the BigWheel did in the 60's, and CB Radio did in the 70's, leaving future archaeologists to wonder why we stashed so many ammo cans full of cheap junk everywhere and felt it necessary to hunt them. I get a chuckle when I think of the many Ph.D. dissertations that will be written by future generations of grad students to try to explain this cultural phenomenon.
  22. I'd send an email to the cache owner, telling him I'm interested in finding his cache, and asking him if he noticed the cache that hadn't been found in awhile and suggesting maybe it's time to check on it. If that fails, a quick email to the local approver about the situation might be in order. If that fails, SBA it. We're all in this together, and no one can police all the caches. If there are obvious non-maintained caches, it's up to the community to get them fixed, disabled, or de-listed. -mark aka Hugh Jazz aka lowracer
  23. It's a free market. If I want to mint a South Carolina geocoin, I can do so. If my version of the South Carolina coin turns out to be more in demand because it's more beautiful, unique etc., than the "official" South Carolina coin, should the fact that I've never even set foot in that state somehow 'disqualify' it? Then again, how would I feel if someone minted their own "lowracer" coin and made a profit off it? Interesting discussion, I'm going to get out my popcorn.
  24. If there are less than 200 people showing up for this, I'll eat my hat.
