  1. Other threads have got me scratching my head... Anyone can just go arround logging false finds, whoop-de-doo. Why tho? Why is that worth anyones time? I've tried to wrap my head around this before, but I just don't get it. To say, "wow I got 1000 finds in a day!"? But you know that you didn't... so why are you having fun?
  2. There is also the possibility that whoever picked it up is on vacation and won't have access to a computer untill they get home. This happens a lot here as people like to start their TBs in tourist areas, and by the airport or cruise ship dock. I had one of mine dissapear for a few weeks, then show up in Holland. I have also found TBs in caches where the inventory stated there were no tbs, or that tb wasn't there. In each case I wen't back over the logs, but nobody had mentioned dropping it, so I figure it's just someone that doesn't log very often. (I wish people would always make the effort when tbs are involved, but some people dont)
  3. Two, one I found when I was stuck in another town with no GPS, and no computer, but I went to a provincial park to look anyway, based on the age old "If i were a geocache, where would I be?" I managed to find one using this method. The other one I found while looking for a completley different cache. Something like ".11 miles is way to innacurate, isn't it? the co-ords couldn't be THAT wrong..."
  4. I would appeal to Groundspeak BECAUSE I would not want them going arround thinking that this sort of thing is alright. I would be worried about all the less experienced cachers that they would be upsetting by doing this.
  5. I guess I am lucky to live in a town that is pretty saturated with caches, tho it's a double edged sword, means I have to work extra hard to find a decent spot to place a cache, but I think it's worth it. I cache every day. I take my kids and my dogs to someplace new every day. We don't always find every cache in a particular park on purpose, we save a couple for another trip. On weekends when I head out I might get 10 caches in a good day, but most caching trips involve no more than 4.
  6. personally I try to be more creative with my hides, but I DO enjoy caches in unlikey areas of town. you can look at any beautiful park and assume there is a cahce there... Although I have never hidden a cache of this sort, I don't mind finding them now and then. I am so obsessed with this hobby that I will do it on the way to drop of papers at a clients office, or during the break at a meeting, or on my way home from wal-mart... you get the idea. I am just about to head out for an all day hiking and caching trip, but only because I'm lucky enough to have a day off. I guess what I'm saying is more the same as the above quote. If you really think that finding these cacehs is a waste of time (don't nessisarily blame you, but it sure would be nice to have that kind of time on my hands) Simply avoid them in the future. Google earth will quickly show you if the posted co-ords take you to an industrial park, or wal-mart parking lot.
  7. I have had this problem before too. Some people just don't seem to get the fun of a difficult search. I have had some people react angrily to my camo jobs. (because it was TOO well camoed) Some people think they are doing the next cacher a favor by not hiding it as well. But you also have to consider that on the off chance a muggle may have discovered it, and left it out in the open thinking they were doing you a favor, so you would be able to find your "lost tupperwear tub of toys" if you ever came back to look for it.
  8. I did not know that you are able to send cache details to your gps with premium! yet another reason to get my butt in gear.
  9. I like the idea about cache names. I am planning on a multi cache circle and I will employ your suggestion. I will put the number first eg "1/5 cahce circle" (it's a working title lol) When in the feild I take a "cheat sheet" with me, where i jot down on a piece of paper the cache number, and a few brief notes I've taken off the cache page. I would like to "go paperless" a little more tho.

    I wish we had...

No good deed goes unpunished! You have to decide if uploading all the photo's one-by-one is worth the feeling of doing something nice for the coin owner. As it is, uploading one photo takes long enough...for those on slower connections what you want could lock up their computer for the rest of the day. well what baout something like some other sies have where you have the option of doing eirther one at a time with a traditional uploader, or switching to bulk? Best of both worlds?
  11. A while ago there was a guy in my town that would take out all the swag and leave a bag of dog-poo. He thankfully seems to have gotten bored of it now, as I haven't heard of it happening for over a year.
  12. a bulk photo uploader. I am trying to upload about 10 pics of a geocoin I took arround town and this is a pain in the behind! I wish I could select more than one at a time, even if it means waiting longer for it to load.
  13. actually since reading the forums I never botherd trading. I just kinda figured, I don't want "stuff" as I'm a minimalist. But reading how others really like swag, and how creative people are getting I have started leaving nice things, and clearing out junky ones. I'll leave some nice things in the package, like new earbuds, flashlights and other small things, and take out the golf ball, or the bottle cap.

  15. What's worse is the camo taped container hidden under a lamp post skirt. Why? I am guilty of a similar hide. I perfectly colour matched the paint to a lamp post, but the post was on top of a multi cache stage that I hadn't done yet. Thus, i had to think of another place to hide it.
  16. .....be really cool if it did the multi colors and patterns as you sprayed it out the can though ??!!?? that would be really cool. you should sell that idea to michaels.
  17. I THINK IT'S MOSTLY JUST PEOPLE WHO THINK ALL CAPS IS COOL. KINDA LIKE A TRADEMARK STYLE FOR THEM. AND TO MAKE EVERYONE THINK THAT THEY ARE CONSTANTLY SHOUTING.
  18. beautiful the job looks homemade. -paint it the base colour -lay down branches on the box and spray with a contrasting colour -move the branches and spray with a thrid colour repeat steps one and two with as many colours as you like untill you get the look you want
  19. You guys are missunderstanding my question... I want to know how I should ask the CO's without offending them
  20. There is a cache that I can see from my house that is in very poor shape and is not being maintained. I really want there to be a good cache in this park, as it's something of a hidden gem and want people from other parts of town to have a reason to discover it. The cache is also a clever hide. The owners of this cache are still active, but just don't seem to be responding to the "needs maintenence" over the course fo a few months by several cahers. I'm not sure what the deal is. Things that jump to mind are that they have moved, or that they are just too busy, or are not interested in keeping up their caches. Unfortunatley the latter seems more likeley as out of 30+ caches that they have hidden, the vast majority are disabled or archived. ANYWAY I don't want to offend them, but I do want to ask if I can adopt this cache, any advice appreciated.
  21. Normally I just pick some that are in proximity to another destination, be it the grocery store, the kids dentist, my mother-in-laws house etc. On weekends I try to pick an area of town, or a park, and try to get as many cahces in that area that I can. If there is a cache in particular that I'm gunning for, I save it in my gps right away and hope that I can trick hubby into letting me out of the car when he drives by. He is my biggest obstacle to my geocaching.
  22. daily. I'm sure the olympic stuff will be gone by now tho. When I was there they had one amo box, and sevral other similar metal boxes, as well as abundant plastic ones. Hubby tells me that it changes every day, but they usually have stuff like that. It's oppen weekdays from 10-4.
  23. I have also removed double a's from caches because they leak. even if they were new and in a package I still wouldn't trust them because I just don't know how long they've been in the heat/damp.
  24. I am also not so stirct in my thinking about it. To me, if they really did fake a find, they aren't hurting anyone but themselves, and one wonders why they bother, I mean what's the fun in simply surfing a website and logging things you never looked for? Of course I take another issue if it was a "TFTC" type log on a cahce that is suspected to be missing, or needs tlc because that would throw other cachers off and lull them into thinking the cache is ok. (if that makes sesnse to anyone but me) I don't agree with logging false finds, but I'm not up in arms about it. and also, signing a log with blood is pretty gross, and something of a health hazzard.
  25. I'm an early 20's Esquimalt Cacher (I realise my home co-ords are in View Royal, we just moved there, but really my heart will always be in Esquimalt)
