  1. Wait for it to find the satellites? Then it will base it off of where you are instead of where you last were (if this is your first time using it, then where it was manufactured...
  2. I only part of hints I don't approve of are those people who aren't even 100' from GZ and already want to know what the hint is, what the D/T is, what size the cache is, what the description says about the container, and what previous finders posted in their logs. I annoy them by NOT looking until I've spent 15 minutes or so looking and can't find it, as then I usually start using the hint anyway.
  3. Yes, a 450 uses SDHC of any size. How does it use any size? It only has room for a micro.
  4. I've got these maps, but to get them onto my GPS I need a microSD card. I can only find microSDHC cards. according to some website, you can use microSD cards if you have something that runs microSDHC cards but not the other way around. Is this true? If so then can an Oregon 450 accept microSDHC cards?
  5. I thought micro SDHC cards would not work in such devices. From what I'd read, it will only take proper microSD cards.
  6. I enjoy the hunt. I also find it very satisfying when I find a very hard cache, and it gives me a great excuse when I can't find it and it's rated **** difficulty. I was thinking of planting a cache. Plastic test tube (or something of the sort)in a hole in a rock, with a little rocky camouflaged patch over it. Would that make people love me or hate me?
  7. I am using an Oregon 450. when I navigate by coordinates, set the coordinates for a waypoint, or other such activity involving coordinates, my GPS will not let the 3rd last number of either the north/south or east/west coordinate sets be higher than 5. For in case it has to do with the settings I'm using, I'm using the WGS 84 datum, and my position format is hddd*mm'ss.s" I'm assuming that it's just my unit, as my friend's Dakota (which is the same thing but an inch or so smaller) does not have this problem. If it's something wrong with the GPS, let me know, as it's still under warrentee, and if it's something wrong with the unit, most likely a quick fix has been found as there are no bad reviews saying this anywhere I've seen.
  8. Do like me and take a little dog-poop bag dispenser and use the little dog-poop bags... Not very good if there's tons of trash, but it attaches right on to my carabiner clip... Along with my GPS, my pen...
  9. Just to mention: Travel Bugs also come in the form of coins (called geocoins, or GCs for short) they do not have anything attached to them, but usually come in a small plastic pouch only about half an inch bigger than the coin with a note saying "THIS IS NOT A TRADING ITEM!!!"
  10. May I suggest you try and put this one to use: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/subtlety subtlety is closer to what I was going for than scarcasm. Perhaps http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/irony let's be a little more complicated, shall we? what about: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/stop+over?qsrc=2446 (look particularly at the first entry, and avoid thinking that I'm using my previous reference.)
  11. Ahhh, but there is risk in everything you do. Note: *** Feel free to stop reading once you see 3 stars. *** edited because I did say I would try just a plain Note:. *** edited again because I like the asterisks better. I think I've found something that makes me a more professional forum-er than you: I dare you, out of all of my logs and forum posts, try and find a single one that I've edited. The same could just about (not quite though) go for your not editing a forum post. Edit to add: You should only base it on whether or not it actually has been edited, as the "Edit to add" here means nothing!
  12. Look at what I've bolded. Either you're using topographical maps instead of the basemap, or you don't have an Oregon 450t (the "t" means it comes with topographical maps.) Please specify. If they are both true, then select Options -> Map -> Map Information (Select Map) -> [insert the name of the topo maps here, they should be the only thing other than "World DEM Basemap" unless you've added maps, and it should say "disabled"] -> enable You will now have your topo maps enabled if they were already on the GPS.
  13. You took the words right out of my... this is the internet so I guess not mouth, so keyboard. My Oregon 450 does that too
  14. This is fraught with peril, as it very well may be your GPS off by 15' and the coordinates only off by 5'. Nobody's perfect, so just leave it unless they're 50'+ off (in which case, complain about iPhones).
  15. I believe there is an attribute for night caches, but COs don't use attributes very often. There is no other way for a PQ, but you could search "night" as a keyword, and that will (mainly) display night caches, but not all of them.
  16. how would you know, you never said *** note: except when you were saying it didn't work. note: you had previously used **** note: but that is a whole other topic for a whole other post* *the phrase "a whole other topic for a whole other post" does not mean that this is in any way different, it was merely an exaggeration of the obvious**. ** to some... noteII: I enjoy adding extra fine print, don't you find it makes people less likely to misunderstand what you mean (because who needs smileys!***)**** *** some people do need smileys to give off the emotions that they truley meant, this was only meant for comedic reasons, not to insult such people **** side effects may include: people finding your posts too long and annoying
  17. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Yup... that'd work. Just have the first word in french, the second in german, the third in latin, the fourth in spanish, etc... note: this will put you on shaky grounds if you ever meet this person at an event. It will also gain you eternal respect from many of his/her other victims*, and you MAY even get a cache named after you! *for lack of a better word P.S. (to GeoBain): look above to see the proper use of stars for disclaimers!!!
  18. darn! i gotta move to germany to armchair log it? i thought ALRs were against the rules. they are, but AALRs (additional armchair logging requirements) aren't
  19. hilly 1, which I archived because I gave up with the reviewer during the publication...
  20. Remember, caches can be anything. In some online geocaching store, I even saw fake hollow dog poo to use as a cache! note: this does not mean all dog poo is a cache, it just means that it MIGHT be. If you look closely you will be able to tell what is a cache and what isn't
  21. I enjoy geocaching. Avoiding muggles is a sub-category that I sometimes like, sometimes don't depending on my mood. Muggles can bring some boredom to the game. For example, if you're going to an urban cache on a bench, and there are muggles sitting there... As the cache info never actually said it was on a bench, I started searching the error radius. The muggles never suspected anything when some random teen is looking at this big touchscreen device with a touchscreen and looking at the parking meter from all angles...
