  1. And as you can see...this has nothing to do with payback. It is the harsh reality.
  2. Believe me, and I know from experience, he is not overcharging you. Postage from the Netherlands outside of Europe is expensive, just look at the chart below: Prices are in Euro's which means that for a package of 2 to 4 coins (100-250 gr) he pays EUR 5,15 = $ 6,50 If he sends 1 coin, he plays even. If he sends 2 coins (more than 100 gr.) he looses money on postage If he sends 3 coins he looses money If he sends 4 coins he may play even, provided they weigh no more than 250 gr. altogether If he sends more then 4 coins he looses a lot of money if he ships Priority. He looses a little money if he ships standard. (but we all want them Priority, don't we) And we have no other (cheaper) means of sending coins. So please do not fall over the guy, he cannot help it. (BTW if I buy coins from known manufacturers/coinshops in the USA, they charge us the same, or more!)
  3. Well said, I ditto that. and no, you have not offended. I just felt the need to explain a little.
  4. I sell (and buy) coins on the "e" place on a regular basis. Never had any problems. I do communicate with buyers and sellers if need be. If I sell a personal coin I always ask the originator of the coin if they have a problem with it. If so, I don't sell but try to trade. I have even changed my "e" name to my caching name so buyers and seller know who they are dealing with. The last coin I sold (yesterday) went for 10x what I payed for it. I have no problem with that. (I bought some expensive coins myself on the "e" place too.) It helps me to keep "building my collection" affordable. I think it is a great medium to get coins that are hard to find / trade.
  5. I think we must not forget that Geocoins originally were (and most of them still are) meant as PERSONAL signature items, to leave in a cache or to send travelling, representing a cacher or a caching team. Some have shown to be real designers, but most of us aren't. Some of them are even handmade, so what do you expect? Nice coin or ugly coin, it is a PERSONAL coin. They don't have to look professional (IMHO) Then there are also the "commercial" geocoins. Most of them do not represent a team or a cacher and are meant as collectables / travellers only. They usually look better, because (mostly) professional designers are involved. (but there are some ugly ones too) But there is nothing Personal about them. I like the last, and also collect them, but I prefer the first, especially if they are from cachers I someway have a connection with. With Geocoins its is not about HOW THEY LOOK, but about WHAT THEY REPRESENT!
  6. And eh... yes Glen, your coins are awesome!! They arrived 2 days ago. I have written to Dansco (the coin album maker) to provide 3" coin sheets, but you seem to be the first in the world with a 3" coin. (in other words, they don't have'm) Ha, I just in time noticed that we were typing this at the same time also. LOL
  7. On the 12th of October in the year 1492 Columbus discovered America. This day is still celebrated in the USA at the 2nd monday in October. In the Spanish speaking countries it is known as : Dia de la Hispanidad
  8. Well, I think the coin producer wants to make a coin of the Highest summit of every continent, so that would be: Mount Everest, Asia (8848 m) * Mount McKinley, North-America (6194 m) * Aconcagua, South America (6962 m) Kilimanjaro, Africa (5895 m) Elbruz, Europe (5642 m) Mount Vinson (should be: Vinson Massif), Antarctica (4892 m) Carstensz Pyramid, Oceanië (4884 m) *already produced
  9. Same remarks here, Ive donated a SE Black Gun and a XLE Shiny Gold. Haven't seen them show up on the Donated coins list, nor on eBay. any news?
  10. I am lead to believe now that someonelse is selling your (serie of) coins (at least your name is on it) and making all the money and since you don't get a cent of it, it is not commercial?
  11. OK, that explains a lot It is obvious that you have a readymade answer for everything. I only hope you realize that your answers are telling more than you might like. Which brings me back to my earlier assumption: yet another commercial series of coins. Be it personal or not. I still pass.
  12. Of course it wasn't disrespectfull. You brought forward an idea, and we discussed about it. Respect everyones opinion, have a discussion and alter your opinion or not. That what this forum is about. Don't apologize.
  13. If CoinsandPins reads all this, they'll just produce a hundred or so more, I guess. After all this is a commercial product isn't it? (nothing wrong with that, don't get me wrong. I think its beautifull and I bought 4 myself)
  14. There are Commemorative coins and Geocoins. This would be a Commemorative coin, so in my opinion: don't If we really need a coin to remind us of people who made a difference in Wildlife preservation, there are better examples to be found than Steve Irwin. In that case I vote for a "Dian Fossey" memorial coin. (or do we already have Gorilla coins?) (my two coins...eehh.. cents)
  15. It appears to be a personal coin for FelixZ so I am not sure you can call it commerical. Are you classifying it as commercial because it was sold? How could I? I've sold my own coins as well. Selling your coins is mostly done to cover the cost, thus enabling cachers to have their own coins. Most people cannot afford to have them minted out of their own pocket. I was speaking of "yet another commercial series" If it is just a one-off personal coin, why call it the 1st Berlin coin? (because it isn't) That is what I was questioning.
  16. Nothing. There is no official Berlin coin excisting yet. But calling it the "1st Berlin Geocoin" instead of "1st FelixZ Geocoin" might sell better, it's probably just a question of business. I find it a bit "odd" to say the least. Calling it the 1st Berlin coin, while everybody knows it is the 2nd. And if it's a personal coin, why use the same design (Brandenburger Tor)? Or is this the 1st of yet another commercial series of coins? Will there be others? i.e. Berlin Gedachtniskirche, Berlin Alexanderplatz, Berlin Checkpoint Charlie, Berlin The Wall, Berlin Reichstag, Berlin Siegessaule, etc? Sorry, I'll pass on this one.
  17. This Geocoin is a project of FelixZ, who is a Cacher from BERLIN !!!. In that case, is he not just the 2nd geocacher from Berlin making a Geocoin. Balla & Silly being the first. What makes this one "officially" the 1st Berlin coin?
  18. I was pleasantly surprised to see this topic, and all your reactions made me blush. What can I say...Thank you all. But....I really believe you are giving me too much credit. I am geocaching since 2004 and collecting coins since 2005. It gives me (and my family) great pleasure. It made me do things and brought me to places I never dreamt of doing or seeing before. By going to events, caching with other people, trading coins, email contacts etc., I’ve met a lot of people and made a lot of friends along the way. In a way it has become a part of my life and an enriching part at that. Geocachers form a “community” in the true sense of the word and in that community I see many people doing that extra bit for a fellow cacher. Discussions on the forum, a friendly word, some good advice, relief fund auctions, donations etc. I am no exception to you all. I just acted upon instinct, because I felt it was the right thing to do. So, I agree with UOTracker, we are all good people, the few bad ones being the exception.
  19. Very nice coin! Can´t wait to see them. Put me down for one of each metal.
  20. So have I, but my story is a bit different In about 50 trades over the past 1,5 year I never lost a shipment. You can imagine I was unpleasantly surprised, when shipping my personal coins, to loose 12 shipments (all overseas) of a total of 225. (of which about 120 overseas.) I shipped all the coins the same way I have always done: priority airmail in a sealed bubble envelope with a CN22 form. It took some coins only 10 days to arrive, in some cases even 10 weeks!! They say it could have had something to do with customs holding them back, because of the shape of the coin, I don't know. Nevertheless, replacing cost me all my spare coins and more. (almost 40 coins + shipment)
  21. One of my coins (a Shiny Gold XLE) is being sold on ebay right now, for the IDTimberwolf Relief Fund. I am very curious what it will do, since it is a , sequentially numbered, one of 25 only (only 3 cachers have it, so far) Last week, a regular was sold for $29
  22. 30 x 50 mm will be about 1,2 x 2 inches Isn't 3mm a standard thickness for coins with most producers? Of all the coins in my collection, only about 10 % is thicker than 3 mm< I think.
  23. Great action! We're happy to help out. a SE Black Gun & a XLE Shiny gold of our personal coin are in the mail. Good luck with the auction!
