  1. Wow, it really seems like most people here simply have to comment on things that they don't understand. At least some got the point. The issue at hand is NOT data harvesting and is NOT a broken app. Like thomfre wrote, many of us are used to have GSAK update their local database on a regular basis often using up the quota. Now this will affect my caching trip that day using ANY partner app. That can not be good and will cause some bad feedback for innocent partners. I think HQ should rather revert to the lower per app/user quote that was in place in the past! Many cacher don't even know what that whole API talk is about. The average housewife cacher (no offence) will NOT understand that because they used tool A or website B on their computer that suddenly app C on their phone will not work anymore for the next 24h. Yes, the technically versed might get it but the average user does not even know what the 'API' is.... They use and app and it works! Now one app/tool/website can and will impact ALL partner apps. In one word: BAD
  2. Are you really sure about all this? The 'old' and 'new' map use different technologies and show caches in a slightly different way. Heck, even when you click on a cache things look very different. Did Groundspeak REALLY confirm that they are going to maintain 2 maps that are that different? I personally did not see any post really confirming this. From a technical side it only makes sense to drop the 'old' map and ONLY keep the 'new' map around. I assume that they will add feature to show PQ etc.
  3. @Rock Chalk: I had submitted the info for GCDroid about 3 years ago... Still not listed....
  4. Wondering if Groundspeak is searching in the right spots... Based on all the evidence it clearly has nothing to do with browser/os or user action. It could be reproduced in many ways, even by simply loading the tiles via cURL. The .info tile needs the .png to be loaded first. Once that is done .info will respond with data for a some time and then it will go back to 204. Assuming this is either cached and evicted based on time or cache size there are simple reasons why heavy load could cause the issue. Maybe you want to check what can cause the .info tile to respond with 204 DESPITE the .png request run before it? I had offered it before, happy to assist on how to reproduce this.
  5. Great to see NO response from the Groundspeak officials here. What's the status? Still having issues....
  6. Having the same issue with Chrome and other browsers... I did some more investigating and here is what I found: - very random issue - using the Chrome developer tools I traced the following (k and st parameters removed) Following requests are made: https://tiles04.geocaching.com/map.png?ts=2&x=8786&y=12093&z=15&k=REMOVED&st=REMOVED&ep=1 loaded the png showing the cache overlay, good https://tiles04.geocaching.com/map.info?ts=2&x=8782&y=12093&z=15&k=REMOVED&st=REMOVED&ep=1&callback=jQuery191048632494180441777_1471812913537&_=1471812913540 returned with status 204 No Content, not good! it should contain the info needed to have the mouse hover around and show info Then later, tried the same again and hey, the second request show the JSON grid info needed and all works again. So the intermittent issue is NOT really the website or the browser. It is the unreliable response to the map.info request. I also ran the commands with CURL, just plain and simple requests, first the map.png, then map.info. Sometimes I get a 200 response from map.info, then again a 204. Rather technical response but I think the right SW engineers should be able to fix it with this info... Like I said, check the server that generates the map.info, it's not the webinterface/user browser/etc. And yes, VERY intermittent issue. Also, while working on PC it failed on another using different internet connections (CABLE, 4G). @Groundspeak: feel free to contact me if you need more info. It is rather reproducible for me.
  7. Hey Ed, all the best from us Ex-Alabamians. Hope you get well soon.
  8. I am getting really upset! What is that?! Instead of focusing on caching related issues they introduce new features that nobody really wants and then they spend time fixing them and breaking some stuff on the way! After running a query today all all my caches show the distance to the center of the PQ. So cache that were around home are now 100 miles away! Clicking on 'Driving Directions' gives me the map with the correct home coords, showing only a few miles to drive to the cache even though the cache pages states 104.7 miles. PLEASE FIX IT!!! AND DON'T BREAK ANYTHING WHILE DOING THAT!!!
  9. Hi, we went to an event 2 weeks ago and got the event-id as coupon code. It was supposed to work until including today. Needless to say that according to the website it expired on 11/7/10 (which is today)?! Now I have two choices, either discuss with pathtag.com why the coupon did not work or find somebody that attended an event lately and got a working code for me. I sent an email to pathtag.com but wanted to also go the other way.... Does anybody have a working discount code (usually $10 OFF)? Thanks!!!
  10. Does anybody know if it supports multiple gpx-files? Or even better that you could select which GPX to use for caching? The new Delorme PN-60 allows to have unlimited GPX files and has a file menu that allows to select which file to use. Think its a great feature since it eliminates that 2000 or 5000 caches limit. Does the 62s do the same thing? Does anybody have screenshots of how the cache-list/description/hint/etc look like? Would be great to get the info to make a decision what to buy. Thanks!!!
  11. sure, it's ok. just don't log more than one 'found it' log but write a note.
  12. you can also check out this website http://x.r2designs.com/index.php it's the dixiecachers page. enjoy
