  1. I loved the old mag and was sorry to see it vanish. I'm sure you would have plenty of material for a quarterly issue if you gave it another go. I eagerly await its return.
  2. The Google Earth Geocache KML would be a good place to look for caches along the wall, or indeed anywhere else on the planet if you are running XP and have Broadband (does work with dial up but very very slow). There is a download link on your geocaching.com account page if you haven't got it already. I walked the wall in 2002, long before I'd ever heard of Geocaching and before the official path opened. To be honest I didn't mind the first day but the last day was one long, boring slog and I arrived at the end 5 minutes after the pub closed so I was not happy. I hope you enjoy your walk and find plenty of caches en route. Paul
  3. Saman, I released your coin today as promised. Look Here I wish it luck on its travels and if anyone else wants me to release theirs here in the UK, just drop me an email for my address and then post it to me. Regards Paul
  4. I've used mine throughout a flight - including being the first to know that we were being diverted from Bristol to Cardiff and then after the announcement that the divert was cancelled and we were back on for Bristol, and following the map into our landing in Egypt. Some of this paranoia about electronic equipment on planes is just that. Essentially a plane is a big faraday cage (which is why it's ok to be struck by lightening) which is full of noise on the inside anyway, and I would challenge you to even detect (electronically) that a GPSr was switched on from even inches away. And before you all jump down my throat, PM me and I'll send you the flight numbers I'm on in advance It may just be paranoia about all electronic equipment on planes but on our last flight home from the US, GPS enabled equipment was specifically mentioned in the brochure thing in the seat backs as not being permitted to be switched on in-flight. Oh yes, and if you are caching abroad, don't forget to change the language settings on your GPS to the local language. .
  5. Is your route to work really that complicated that you need to use a GPS to find your way ? I noticed an improvement in the stated accuracy of my Geko 201 at the weekend, it was registering 6ft while we walked along the banks of the Humber (No hills, no buildings, big sky !). Didn't notice if there was a full lock on sat 33 or not but it has never claimed to be that accurate before.
  6. You can send them to me here in the UK Saman Team - email me via my profile for the postal address. I have done this before for people and the coins I released are still travelling. Same goes for anyone else who wants their coins setting free over here. Looking forward to hearing from you. Paul
  7. Nice one Geoff, and good to see you lurking in the woods the other week !! Paul & Ros
  8. If you are in London, Try Last Delivery (London) if you can. GCGBGB It is one of, if not the, most visited cache in the UK and a great place to swap TB's. A Proper cache, right in the heart of London. We also enjoyed a Fleeting Glimpse GCJHK8, we were amazed that it has survived so long in such a busy spot right beside the Thames. You could try the Geocaching KML for Google Earth to find caches near to places you are intending to visit. Hope you enjoy your holiday.
  9. Agree with all the above but don't forget Public Libraries. They were a godsend when our palm packed in on holiday last year. Almost all offer free internet access nowadays. We also used the "please do not log a TB pick up until we log the drop as we are on holiday" note in the logs we left. Best of Luck
  10. Were in, but not sure where for in your list. We live in North Yorkshire, West Riding. It's all very confusing as the old ridings and current counties don't match up.
  11. Quote : The only problem I had was that some of the colour depth options for export used to crash the desktop application. Oh yes, forgot to mention that, I've got used to seeing it all in gray scale on the palm . No one would argue that it is the best of the bunch but for coverage of the whole UK it is certainly the cheapest. Make sure you get the update from the fugawi website (may be included in latest versions of software), it adds a bit of extra geocaching functionality to the desktop app like searching for caches near to the cursor and importing HTML links for the waypoints to click back to the GC.com website. see here : http://www.fugawi.com/docs/suppupgrades.html#FUK2
  12. You need to move small numbers of map tiles from the PC to the main memory on your palm using Hotsync, being careful not to transfer too much data to overrun the internal memory. Then , once in internal memory, use fugawi on the palm and select map from the menu, one of the options is "move to external memory" or something similar (I dont have my stuff with me at this moment). You need to move all the maps one at a time to the external memory until the internal memory is empty again. Then go back to the PC and repeat until all the tiles you want are transferered. This worked for me but it is a slow process and I would love someone to figure out a quick way of tiling and transferring large areas automatically. Once on the external memory, the datafile can be copied back to the PC to store for later use by moving back to the card when required. This is a faster process than doing the whole export and move thing all over again. I couldnt find a way of exporting directly to the card or of saving the files on PC for manual transfer to the card. One thing to note : On my Palm 515, fugawi runs noticibly slower if it is reading maps from the external card and I have experienced a few fatal error crashes when moving between maps. Nowadays I tend to copy only the areas I am visiting that day to the internal memory and run everything from there although we did a trip to Scotland last year and held most of the north of scotland on the card at once without any problems. Hope this helps. Paul
  13. Note to self : Must remember to check forum postings every day. If I had heard about this yesterday then things might have been different !!
  14. The rain is fine by us, keeps the muggles away !.
  15. Nice one Stevo You are still the only cacher we have ever met outside of an event but with 1500 under your belt you must have met a few.
  16. Looking For Isle of Mann geocoin. Have to trade in hand Scotland England EGG silver Cointown Silver Cointown Nickel Have to trade On Order Wales London Round London Phonebox Prague Contact through profile if interested.
  17. If the list is still open, can you add us, 1 entry please. Age wise we are ---- old enough to know better ! I hope when your 20th postal bug has finished it's mission you will tot up how many individual deliveries have been made. It must be up there in the high 100's. Thanks Paul & Ros
  18. Is it possible to go back to caches you have already logged and drop and pickup a bug or a coin. We have been caching for over a year and have 200+ finds. I have seen other people who drop and pick up the same coin or bug at every cache they visit. Without wanting to get into a discussion about the rights and wrongs of people doing this, is it possible to go back to your old cache finds and add these drops and pickups. If I were to activate a new coin to do this would there be a problem with logging travels which took place before the activation date ? (Apart from the obvious dilema that the coin did not actually visit the cache - although the coin name / description would indicate this) Would I need to write a note on the cache page, to avoid claiming two finds at one cache, and then delete that note again after picking the coin up. What would happen with caches which have been archived since we found them. Many questions, but put simply, Is it possible to do and would it upset anyone if we did it.
  19. I've got a Palm 515 and have also used the move map feature to copy maps from the palm to the SD card. This takes ages but once you have done it you can move those maps from the SD card back to the PC using a card reader and from then on you can move from PC direct to card without using the palm - much quicker. Cards read from the SD card take much longer to update than those held in the palm memory and my Palm sometimes crashes when moving between two (i think possibly due to palm internal memory overflow) The only problem I have is the annoying size limitations which mean you have to tile the maps to cover larger areas, Now if anyone has come up with a way of automating this to generate a set of tiles for a larger area I'd love to know.
  20. Always willing to drop off any TB's or coins in England from anyone anywhere in the world. Just drop me an email via my profile and I'll let you have my address. Pop your trackables in the post and I'll drop them off as soon as they arrive here.
