  1. Not even Garmin POI Loader? Great! I see, you are a man of principles. Or a Geomate user.
  2. I don't know why you are insulting me. This forum is exactly the right place to submit feature requests, quote: "Geocaching.com Web Site: Discuss new features (or feature requests), bugs, etc. specific to the Geocaching.com site" and this thread is exactly a feature request. You are unfriendliy. There is no reason for this.
  3. Proposing 3rd party applications to realize the feature I am suggesting (e.g. using GSAK) is missing the point as using 3rd party applications involves a complicated workflow and the need to deal with macros. Instead, I want that functionality built into the site. Thus I am suggesting an easy workflow for geocachers that are NOT computer nerds. The workflow I suggest is: - select country, region or number of caches (see pocket query form) - download in e.g. Garmin POI format - use Garmin POI Loader to upload POI to your garmin. It could be even easier if there would be a possibility to upload POIs directly from the webpage to the GPS (like the "upload to GPS" button on each cache description page). In my opinion Groundspeak will earn money through this service. Think iPhone App. Problem for Groundspeak is, you don't have to be Premium Member to use it. So Groundspeak only earns money once when selling the App. If Groundspeak would offer a premium service to upload caches to GPS devices, i suppose they would sell many more subscriptions which would result in higher and constant revenue.
  4. Agree. Albeit I wouldn't go so far to call my suggestion a "whole new system". I see it a as different export format, i.e. CSV compared to GPX. This eliminates the need for a 3rd party filtering application (e.g. GSAK) and corresponding workflows.
  5. This is a feature suggestion related to gc.com. It has nothing to do whether you could do this at home with a black belt in GSAK or your own scripting magic.
  6. If you are an avid geocacher and you want to find geocaches wherever you go, you are left with the following easy solutions: - buy an iPhone and a data access service. Buy and install geocaching iPhone app. - buy a Geomate Junior The two choices above do not require you to be a premium member. There is a third choice that I suggest. However, that suggestion requires you to be a premium member: Allow for downloading cache data in different formats from geocaching.com web site. Example: If one could download traditional caches as comma separated value (CSV) one can feed this file directly to Garmin Poi Loader to upload the Caches as POIs to all supported Garmin devices. This way you can have all traditional caches in your pocket - even with hint included, as seen in the example below: 16.9,48.1397,"R910 T 2/2.5 M","PL:10.11.2005 LF:22.06.2008 Museum Carnuntinum by Mogel NFFF" 16.9,48.1397,"R910 Hint","Hole in tree looking NE" Advantages: - your iPhone won't get wet on a rainy day. - you can stick to the GPS device of your choice - you have almost instant access to any traditional cache even without cellular service available. - more people will subscribe as premium members Disadvantages: - no more reasons to buy an iPhone
  7. I hope that Groundspeak accepts that there is a need for a more comfortable way to access cache data than "pocket queries". A kind of online GSAK would be great. More export formats would be great. I hope sometime in the future Groundspeak will improve their website to this effect so that premium users can do this.
  8. What you are saying is, that If I install the Data on my "GPS", I may not lend the GPS to anybody else...as this would be a breach of TOU ("..provide access to the Data...to any 3rd party"). That is strange.
  9. Setting up PQs, changing them whenever you think you might travel somewhere else, installing GSAK and relevant macros, creating mail accounts for receiving PQs, running GSAK to update database whenever needed...that's what I call "complicated" or "intricate". Easy would be as follows: - Use the iPhone app to geolocate yourself and have the caches near you displayed. - Use Geomate Junior and the integrated cache database. ...or maybe in the future... - Login to gc.com, define a pocket query with all traditional caches limited to your country, click on the "download as POI" link and then start POI Loader to upload the zillions of POIs to your GPS device.
  10. I am interested, how can I do this really easily?
  11. Sorry to be mistaken. Of course the idea is to have Groundspeak offer this service to Premium Users. As I wrote in the opening posting: best thing would be If I could just download the POIs from geocaching.com. The website I posted was merely given as examle what service I'd like Groundspeak to offer.
  12. Sorry to be so frank but I don't get this: why would you want to hide this thread? We are discussing a great idea. The idea is that you have all caches inside your GPS. For a lot of GPS systems this could be accomplished using POIs - at least for traditional caches, I guess. This is a dream to come true for every geocacher - i can't see anything wrong with it. I hope Groundspeak will offer this download in the near future. As I said, I am willing to pay Groundspeak for this service.
  13. Dodgy, maybe, but if it gives you access to some information that geocaching.com does not offer it might be worth it. Does GSAK run on Apple Macs?
  14. Hi there! The idea is that you have all caches inside your GPS or navi. Of course, this doesn't really work for unknown or multi caches as the memory footprint is very high. However, at least for traditional caches this should be possible as all you need are coordinates (and maybe a hint). Somebody already made this possible. There seems to be a list of the coordinates of all Swiss caches as a list of POIs. http://gc.etherlink.ch/stats/gclogin/login.php I am searching for something similar for German caches! Best thing would be If I could just download the POIs from geocaching.com. Mind you, I'd be happy to pay for this service.
