  1. It looks like it has bee previously mentioned but Cabela's has the Oregon 450 on sale for $450. and I think it is fully paperless like my 60csx
  2. I have a Garmin 60Csx and it will give no info accept the name and number of the cache. I use my ipad to access all the other info and leave it in the car. It's simple to do when you use pocket queries.
  3. On the 24k topo maps it shows enough detail to give city turn bu turn directions. It beeps when you need to make a turn. I live in Reno,NV and it works just fine for taking me from cache to cache. That's with the 60 CSX, and the maps never lock, so invite your friends over and help pay for the map.
  4. I am planning to place an EC in Oregon, but I live in Nevada. I know a person from Calif who owns one in Nevada. Does anyone know the official ruling on this?
  5. Cool! I'm planning a trip to Chesapeake Bay for next summer. I made my living In the field of water quality/aquatic ecology and this EC is right on. In fact it gave me a few ideas on setting up my next one. Cache on!
  6. I have one EC published and I'm considering trying one on a local wetland. I have run across some that have been accepted. I would start out with the soils that are quite unique and include such things as how they function; water quality improvement, sediment detention, groundwater recharge, flood control. They are very important as a "landform" and in my eye should qualify as an Earth Science. Give me some feedback
  7. I am having the same problem and contacted Garmin support and learned they have had many calls today with the same issue and suggested it's on the geocaching.com end. Are you reading these .com I want to go caching tomorrow
  8. Same problem tonight will not send to GPS. Imthen contacted Garmin and he saidmhenfas had many similar call today and suggested it was on the geocaching.com end. So are you reading these posts .com I want to to caching tomorrow. Sorry not in right topic, but problem nonetheless
  9. I am looking to buy a Garmin 60CSx and wondering if it shows all of the info on a cache page like description, hints and logs. I currently have a Dakota 20 and it shows every bit of info that you need to know in the field. Any help here?
  10. I continue to have problem placing photos on a cache page. I used the code you see below to try to center the earthcahe banner on a new cache I'm developing. I am not checking the HTML box because it completely scrambles the text and I was told not to in the past. I have put the code in both the short and long description boxes, then submit, then view and nothing. So guys and gals what am I doing wrong? <center><img src=“http://rock.geosociety.org/Earthcache/Images/ECBanner1.jpg”/></center>
  11. I think I know the code to place the photo, but where do you place the code on the cache page? I imagine you would be in edit the listing area, but do you put the code in the short description box, or long or somewhere else? The next question is does the photo show up after you submit the change and then view the listing? And I have the same question for other images like the new earthcache banner they encourage you to put on the page. Any help would be appreciated.
  12. i was thinking more about how the salt concentration has increased over time in the lake in relation to man's activity upstream, and maybe have them point out the beach terraces in the valley left behind my the receding lake level. Maybe that would be the goal, to get them in a position to see the terraces and take a photo and answer a question related to the subject. Would something like that fly?
  13. So you think I could make it "geo" enough to get it by the, what I've heard, Very strict geologists who review it?
  14. I recieved my MS and wrote a scientific paper on Walker Lake , Nevada in the late 70's and it continues to be of local scientific interest. Over "Geologic Time" the lake has continued to decline in elevation and become more saline. The native fishery is currently in jeopardy, including a once trophy Lahontan Cutthroat Trout fishery. I would be interested in developing an EarthCache on this lake and I think I could work in enough geo perspective for it to fly. What do you guys think? One thing that comes to mind is the very distinct beach terraces left behind as the lake has receded. These are hundreds of feet above the current lake level
