  1. sure, the ability to abuse something like a unverifiable "virtual" would be a factor ... but "completed suggestions" would work. that could in it's self be a cache "type" like a "suggestion cache" that could collect those suggestions, which would still be legitimate even if logged from another location. commercial vehicles are not "personal vehicles" ... there are limitations as to how may hours they are operated, what roads they can drive on, as well as a requirement to have a continuous length of off duty time - it's not like once they get parked "for the night", that they can just go driving around just to get a cache ... not to mention the competition for parking which most people are unaware of (especially here in the east). ... again, it's just a matter of access.
  2. perhaps ... making it so the "dot" i place on the map can only be placed on a street, or at an intersection, and can be virtually signed by passers by. there you go ... a "virtual cache" (though not by that name) that expires when a "physical cache" is placed in an area. ... problem refined.
  3. now that's a constructive response. thank you keystone. the reason i suggested it the way i did is because i get notifications of published caches in an area within x amount of miles ... it would be as easy to implement a notification to specific area cachers of a particular audience they may be missing. ... if it could be done differently that would be fine ... i just don't think it's a completely courteous idea to be posting notes (as i did) on nearby caches saying "hey, the cache you placed way over there is cool ... but what about me?" my crude description of what i'm trying to say does not prevent gs from applying something that is a bit more professional.
  4. i don't agree with restricting someone for placements ... weather it's a quick park and grab or an impossible puzzle that only the poster can figure out, you cannot judge the "quality" unless it's ill-maintained and you're physically present to put an eyeball on it. and ... what if someone creates an account to specifically plant one cache and that's it ... i've seen a few dummy accounts around that are meant to be clues... so they do exist.
  5. i don't agree ... while gs might be running on a skin-and-bones budget ... it would become an antitrust issue, as it is the "premium listing' is somewhat of one except for the fact that the posters are the ones who decide. actually that's what i think the favorite points are meant to do. ... but then again ... back to premium features.
  6. i'll vote for that ... it does sound like a cool way to pick fun caches. +1
  7. a mailbox is not an "area" ... and for that matter any of the regular rules would still apply, it's odd that you should go there right away ... so we're back to the definition of "bad area" the first rule of placing a cache -before gc.com even gets involved at all- is the placer's discretion and knowledge of the rules. and then when the listing is posted it is subject to the scrutinizing of further rules, proximity markers and blah blah blah ... and gets reviewed by (trustingly) an unbiased and all seeing overseer. these things are not in question at all. a placed cache is both an offering to the community to have a find available in a particular combination of location, or "for the numbers" or in the case of a truck driver, a reason to go for a walk ... AND (i kinda look at it in this instance) as bait, to catch as many sigs as can be done with a placement in a high volume location. i would think it would be desirable to the placers in a neighborhood to at least get a "heads up" on a potentially "hot" area, and i think i've mentioned that before. and i define "area" as bigger than a city block by the way. ... oh ... and "human" by the person placing the "request".
  8. well then i guess it's for the best then seeing how noone commenting here seems to realize what i mean. thanks for playing.
  9. this is one reason why i made this suggestion ... http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=287835
  10. using a [vote] post might work ... see if an idea has any legs before it gets submitted.
  11. define "bad area" . oh ... and "human being" .

  13. i'm suggesting access for cachers who would otherwise not be at an advantage due to transportation and or legal reasons ... such as a truck driver, who is legally obligated to fulfill a certain amount of consecutive "off duty" time... these cachers do not have the ability to just "up and drive" to the nearest cache, that may be considered a bit more than "walking distance" from where proper parking is. ... (look up "jason's law")... all has to do with access. while this may be a small geocacher demographic, there are still enough to be heard.
  14. it would come up in a search as a night only .. so you wouldn't waste your time trying to find it in the daylight, or could eliminate it from a search for other types. matter of fact ... there's somewhat of a "commercial" (i say this because it has some exact wording in it that i was warned about on a cache i was placing) cache in the neighborhood here that is a puzzle listed as a "traditional" ... so there's 3 conflicts right there.
  15. ok cool thanks... then interface should be made less confusing. thought it might be a space issue.
  16. it would be nice to be able to upload photos to my profile, just for the sake of having photos. also ... it would be convenient to be able to upload photos directly to a discussion thread without the need to host them elsewhere. this would make "visuals" quicker on some of these bugs. ... not to mention that if i ever delete the photos from the host source then they would be gone from here too. this takes a description of the photo on a post out of context and probably makes it unusable.
  17. i figured the answer would be something like that ... maybe has something to do with space restrictions. ? it would also be nice to be able to upload pics directly to the forum without having to host them somewhere else.
  18. is there a way to add photos to my profile and or gallery that aren't associated with a log on a cache?
  19. occasionally i have this problem on my android phone using c;geo with it's native map (google). restarting the program, restarting the phone, or clearing my cache fixes this. i don't know if that's the same as what you have with the i-pad.. ... but you might want to put this under the area where bugs are reported. here ... http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showforum=8
  20. this feature would work in either instance as a "clue" or a way to determine if a cache fits within a reader's pre-formatted "worthiness"... i tend to search the logs occasionally for experienced responses as well as those that are not so much. this comes in handy when looking for a cache to fill a certain amount of available time... or any number of other reasons for that matter. on a related note ... in the forums, this feature might make some "old-timers" less likely to overly pick on someone who they think might not know better. i could go either way with it, but i'll give it a half a vote.
  21. similar to this problem ... http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=288131 f.y.i. - but is still there, even after clearing cache w7(64) - chrome
  22. not same bug as scrambled avatars ... btw, that problem is still there, while this one hasn't returned (yet).
