  1. Yes. It's a camo'd porta-potty chained to a tree. So this isn't actually a geocache, but I drive by it most days to work (having no idea why it's there) and think it could serve as good inspiration as a cache.
  2. The last time I hopped over to Waymarking.com and looked at my area about 75% of the waymarks were just gravestones that somebody wanted you to go look at for some reason. Not really any "wow" imo. Just another reason why reviewers make geocaching what it is today - quality.
  3. With the way things are getting now (micro's in every parking lot for example), I can see how virtuals could get out of hand. Though there are many examples of places that would make for great virtuals due to restrictions of hiding a physical cache. I'm interested in seeing what Groundspeak comes up with to reinstate them successfully.
  4. I just realized I'm having the same problem after seeing a DNF on one of my caches that I couldn't remember being notified of. I then checked the rest of my caches and found dozens of logs over the last month that I never got. While I'm still getting notifications for new caches, finds on my Watchlist, and the Geocaching weekly newsletter I haven't received a notification (found/DNF) on any of my caches since 12/15/10. I don't see anything in the spam folder either. Edit: Well I got mine figured out. While my current Gmail adresss wasn't spamming it, I forgot I have my geocaching stuff sent to another older gmail address of mine and then forwarded to the one I use now. Turns out the older one started spamming the notifications for no apparent reason that I can tell.
  5. I can relate, besides all the many other states I've visited in my life (I think roughly 25-30), I was in San Francisco this past February for an entire week for work, and with plenty of time to explore. I discovered geocaching the very next week and have since looked over all the caches I went right over and missed.
  6. Ditto, I've seen them on the forums in the past, but was surprised to see one pop up on Gizmodo the other day. I couldn't believe the discussion had almost zero mention of geocaching in it.
  7. Unfortunately this is my case as well. I generally only geocache when she's occupied at work or something.
  8. This was at the entrance of a park that was open. None of these signs by themselves are odd, but together they become a bit confusing.
  9. My noobness was the most frustrating part. I DNF'd the first LPC I ever came to...TWICE. I went there just circling the pole in a Target parking lot until I finally later asked the cacher who introduced me to geocaching about it.
  10. I normally write a couple sentences per cache log minimum, but I generally always end with "TFTH". I suppose mostly out of habit. But I agree, unless there happened to be a funny muggle story, there's usually nothing else to say for LPCish caches.
  11. "Don't forget to drink your Ovaltine" I'd agree that I wouldn't want to come across this one mid-stage in a multi, but would be great as a stand alone puzzle cache.
  12. That's neat. That cache is destined to be muggled now.
  13. Here's my slice of Northwest Arkansas. My gas bill is starting to get to me...
  14. I came across this problem early when I first started hiding caches as well. From the maps it looked as if I was fine, but the reviewer informed me that it was too close to a puzzle cache GZ. This prompted me to attempt the puzzle to get the coordinates and was one of my first puzzle finds.
  15. I'm still waiting on my wife to approve of geocaching...
  16. This is a concern I've had lately. I started geocaching this spring and by the time I was ready to tackle some woodsy caches there was just too much heat, bugs, and undergrowth to make it enjoyable. Over the summer I logged nearly all our urban hides within 20 miles so I was looking forward to the fall/winter for when I could tackle some caches requiring a nice hike. Now I'm unsure with hunting season in full blow. I've never hunted so I'm not familiar with their tactics, but so far I bought an orange vest and have only ventured a few places I know where hunting is prohibited (though I did spot a deer stand + salt lick in one). As much as I'm concerned for safety, I'd also hate to mess up someone's hunt if they'd been there since 5 am.
  17. I've seen some caches near or even overlapping on the map only because they were puzzle's with the actual GZ at least 0.1 miles apart. But foremost, instead of looking for where there's not a cache, look for interesting places that you'd like to bring people to, and then check to see if there's already another cache on the maps by zooming up. Good luck with your hides.
  18. Caddie enjoying her spoils at GC2026T
  19. I use a knockoff version of a Camelbak. Works great for holding all my stuff and allows for adequate hydration on long geo-hikes.
  20. I believe the majority of cachers don't and frown upon those who do. But as with most caching debates it comes down to the discretion of the CO, which obviously doesn't help in this case.
  21. Lots of evergreen hides here...which I've recently found out I have an allergy too. :-/ When I visit Little Rock I frequently find fire hydrant micros more so than anywhere else.
