  1. Are the caches in great places that are safe from muggles and are containers you think will last? If so I'd leave them. If there is a chance for high maintenance requirements and you don't love the cache think about asking a local to adopt or archive them. You'll get lots of advice.
  2. Does anyone know how to activate the coin that was given away at Head Quarters as part of the Lost & Found event? They gave it to use when we completed the tour of Seattle and picked up all the pieces of Signal. It's a round metal with HQ on it. thanks..we've tried all the common sites
  3. Wait a minute! Who gave permission for Harmon to slip away to Italy...???? I guess the idea of a Santee Urban Micro for #5000 was just not palatable. Really? I thought he was planning on a gondola ride in Venice. Geo-Yoda on OMT would be much better .....I wonder how he can convince his wife...... Rumor has it he wants to ride in a Tuff TRUCK to get his 5000th find on Otay MTN.

  5. With Harmon in Italy this forum is gonna be boring!
  6. Too funny. What is really funny is that I work in the same office where Harmon worked when he dressed liked that. I should show him how the Aerospace engineers dress now...shorts and cutoffs...it just ain't the same. I bet if I dug in the archives I could find more pictures of old Harmon!
  7. Mr. Hawk sitting on the scaffolding near hour house asking me when all this loud construction is gonna be done ( near Sit Awhile) House in the backgroud is a foreclosure..fixer with amazing views. Not bad picture considering I took it through a dirty window.
  8. Looking forward to it! Head's Up.....the event page will be updated but everyone start thinking about whether or not they want a San Diego Geocacher's tshirt as we'll be selling them at the campout and I will be needing some pre-order numbers to get the order in. We're using the simple SD Geoachers Logo..small on the front and larger on the back. Probably light ash as only light colors look good with the logo. I'm expecting the tshirts to be under $15 and sweatshirts or hoodies we also be available for approx $20-23. I'll need qtys and sizes and will let ya know the cut off. Still working on the quote and the artwork.... New master of logo artwork delivered to Jodi. Also Uploaded it to San Diego Geocachers.org site so that everybody can access it. Make sure to resize for largest dimensions when viewing it on the link below. Master Artwork: San Diego Geocachers Logo I also have a color-separation version available for silkscreen printing. It's four colors and the black text below the artwork can be either included or excluded. Isn't that old guy amazing....never thought you'd hear me say that did you? Ok...if you want a shirt email me with the qty and size. We will also have hoodies and sweatshirts. When I get the final prices I will have Skillet update the cache page.

  10. Too Funny! Hey wait...are you picking on me? If those guys are Dilton and Archie then the gal must be Betty... Here is Betty with her caching bag. Well ... uhm, actually ... that's Jughead's body. Tell me Jodi dear, when did I ever pick on you? You put my head on JUGHEAD's body? Oh..so I look like a guy now huh???????????? War has ben declared! I'm off the hook because I said that you look like Betty. Jodi, How y' doin' gal-pal? Hope everything is fine with you today. I was just thinking about you and ... uhm ... what a lovely person you are. Yeah, that's it ... what a lovely and forgiving person you are. Nice work Pat, ... what a kiss-up. Poor ol' Harmon Kiss-up! Why I oughta! Harmon, this is John.... Remember this "Open mouth, insert _ _ _ _" I can't believe you keep doing this. I have to live with her ya know. I can't stay on sea duty forever...
  11. Congrats, JJ Duo!!! Great cache for a milestone! The Splashes send their congrats!!! WooHoo, guess we know how your're enjoying that retirement! Congrats JJ from JnJ!

  14. Pat...you are too Funny...but I don't have SNAGIT so how do I show you my results...which I don't think are good.... http://www.speedtest.net/result/944698862.png test Holy Mackerel! ... 0.66 Mb/s download speed, you call that a result? Make it seem better, call it 660 Kb/s. Honestly, I feel your pain. Here's Plan A: When you are holdin' the tin can up to your computer make sure that you keep th' strang taught; otherwise your bits will be all mushy. Mushy bits are a bad thang, technically-speaking wise. Plan B: This plan depends on you having an actual telephone line. If so use the "Check Availability" button at the link below to see if AT&T DSL Internet service is an option for you. If no phone line then maybe AT&T DSL Direct. AT&T DSL Service Plan C: Shoot girl, you live right under a mountain that has antennas sprouting from th' summit. Have John run a coax up top and patch into one of the Internet systems. Plan D: Next time John deploys pack up and go with him. Shoot, the've got decent Internet service on th' boat. Harmon...Plan A and C are the only feasible ones because those results were AT&T DSL !! [:0] John's ship can't even get GC.com since they started adding so many advertisements to the pages. I tried Plan A and it works ok since I only type with one hand so I can hold the tin can with the other. Plan C has me interested: How many feet of cable do you think it would take? Trouble is the rabbits eat everything out here unless it's buried so I bet that cable wouldn't last long . Do you think we could hold an event and get some help stringing that cable? Rumor has it there's a cache at the top..or very close to it. Can you imagine what life would be like if Jodi had good internet? Plan E: IP Over Avian Carriers (IPoAC) IP are the Internet Protocols and Avian Carriers are birds (specifically Carrier Pigeons). The round-trip packet times are probably not going to be great, but the raw bandwidth of a few carrier pigeons outfitted with microSD memory cards is at least 25 times the speed DSL or 5-10 times the speed of CableModem. Data errors due to coyote might be a problem but that can be addressed by using redundant birds (those of us in the telecom industry would call it "carrier diversity"). Frankly, I'm surprised that Harmon didn't think of this... Why I oughta .... IPoAC ... birds is birds ... ain't that what Twitter is all about? So data-rate expressed as Mb/s would be Mega Birds per second, yes? Sounds like a new spin on Cloud Computing ... how would you feel about Flock Computing? Hey Jodi, James may be onto something here. Lemme see, fifty pounds of bird seed from the feedstore and a back yard full of pigeon coops and you're good t' go. Thank goodness for small favors, now Jodi will be hanging them danged Bison tubes on pigeons rather than in trees, bushes, and shrubs. Free at last! You're all engineers......I need to remember that ...it explains alot. I still owe Calipers an IHO Engineers series. Those containers will be fun!

  17. Hey, thanks for sharing. Also received results from FisnJack by way of email. Here's my improved result. Gives me a chance to do a wrapup on my situation which, as you can see above, is much improved. At one point during my bout with Cox over the cable modems I took my laptop and the first modem out onto my driveway and connected directly to the streetside cable so's to definitely counter any argument about splitters, household cable, Ethernet wiring, and router. That confirmed the same 0.84 download and 0.29 upload speed. Once the second cable modem arrived and was installed, same poor result. Called Cox once again and went through the same elimination process with the surprising result that my Linksys router was faulty. My bad not rechecking that possibility once I had the second cable modem installed. As you can see from my post above I'm back in business as expected. There are three levels offered by Cox ... Essential at 1.5 Mb/s download, Preferred at 15 Mb/s, and Premier at 30 Mb/s. With cable modem and router problems behind me speed tests range between 14 and 19 Mb/s as expected. Back to being a happy-camper for Internet access ... for all those high resolution photos and videos in my life of Photoshop usage and tutoring. Nothing like beariing down on a problem that took over two months to resolve. What really spoiled me was working at Sandy Creek Ranch where we had a T-1 line and a 30-mile line-of-sight wireless access point. The heart of the cable-modem swapout is that if your cable modem is only good for DOCSIS 1.0 then it will have to be swapped out as Cox embraces DOCSIS 3.0. This problem first came up with the increased type and number of DTCMMBLB images I've had to handle. ... putting some strain on my broad band service if y' know what I mean. Harmon, my neighbor is an engineer at Motorola and he just gave me a Motorola SBG6580 DOCSIS 3.0, Wireless-N WPS Modem/Router to try out. Sweet! Here are my updated speed test results: Best Buy sells the SBG6580 for about $150. Wireless-N is nice because that gives me 300M on my local network for DLNA streaming. Now that I have Wireless-N, I might get one of these. Pat, Don't return it! No, wait, tell him you lost it and then ask him to loan you another one so's I can have one too. Guess I'll have to Photoshop my SpeedTest report to get ahead of you. What router are you using? Sure feels better now that those problems are behind me. As it was watching six seconds of streaming video followed by ten seconds of a spinner, over and over again, wasn't a lot of fun. Made it too miserable to watch the Adobe tutorials when Photoshop CS5 was released. During off-hours I'm seeing up to low twenties and then down between 14 Mb/s and 19 Mb/s during peak hours. I can live with that but now I'm encouraged to consider buying an SBG6580. Amazon offers it at $99.95 with free shipping. Thanks pal, Harmon My speed varies too. The SBG6580 is a cable modem and a wireless (G&N) 4-port router all in one. It's been working great so far, but if I ever have troubles I have engineering support for it right across the street. My speed never varies if you mean while out Geocaching on local trails. Anyway, that sounds like a great box ... even one less power converter and at least one less Ethernet cable too. Let me know when he brings another one for me. I'll drive over to get it from you so's you don't have t' make th' trip. Like I always said, you're a swell guy. Harmon You guys make me sick...try living out in the Boonies where we just got rid of AOL dial-up. We can't even watch UTube videos because they keep pausing to load .... Jodi, Good gosh girl, I had no idea. Seriously, you've been using AOL dialup to achieve your find-count? Do you have electricity and indoor plumbing out there in the sticks? Who do you know that has Cox cable service and lives where you can see their house from your place? ... o yeah, only thang you can see from your place is the old steel bridge, huh? Come on Jodi, run a speed test and post th' results. Make us feel good sweet thang. O well, Sweet ol' Harmon Ok.....for giggles tell me how to do a speed test......if it's not a fresh Forum page it takes about 10 minutes for all the posts to load......the critter page it a show stopper....
