  1. I tried to post this yesterday, but it didn't show up, so I'll try again... I've found 8 Earthcaches, and would like to place one. There is an area near my home with a dramatic elevation change that I think would be interesting. Only problem is that I know next to nothing about geology! I've searched the internet for geological information about the area and all I can come up with is the age and composition of the ground. So my question is: Where can I go to learn? Who can I ask for help? Thanks in advance, LynnMarieP
  2. There are several in the southern part of the US, especially in Louisiana. Look at those for ideas too.
  3. Shoot me an email. I agree that the DFW area cachers are somewhat reclusive. I live in Mesquite too. FYI: There will be a challenge of 25 new caches in Mesquite this Saturday, 3/10. I'll be trying to get as many as possible this weekend. Hopefully a couple of FTF's too! I wish I'd known about the midwinter thing. I would love to meet those world famous cachers!
  4. Two thoughts: First, you can always paste the coordinates into google maps. I know, it is an extra step, but it is do-able. Second, MY C:GEO DOESN'T WORK NOW!!! So I guess I just donated $10 toward getting google maps back when I bought the much overpriced geocaching app for my android. You're welcome.
  5. Thanks, everybody! I ran a pocket query, but it gave me way too many. I even shortened it to only include those from OKC to Omaha. I think I will use the smart phone suggestion and open it up when I see a rest area. I hope you are correct that there are caches at every rest stop. Tell you what... if I stop at a rest area without a cache, I'll drop one off. Nope, can't do that. Can't maintain it. Oh well. Thanks for helping, everyone!!!
  6. I'm going on a trip for T'giving with the family. Unfortunately, DH won't have patience for me stopping to get geocaches, so I need to find ones at rest areas. Is there any way to do that on the run? I'm hoping to add Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa to my list of states this week.
  7. Saw this and had to chime in. I've been caching for less than a year and been questioned TWICE by Leo. (I like that name, I'm going to use it... along with Jacktard!) The first guy helped us look and found the cache for us. The second one followed us from one cache to another and questioned us in a very serious tone. He finally said, "Well, I guess you aren't doing anything illegal"! Apparently copper thieves look a lot like skirt lifters.
  8. I agree to look for easy ones first. This might be a spoiler for you, but it it looks like it is in a light pole, the "skirt" around the bottom lifts up and it is probably hidden in there. Maybe you already knew that, but I didn't!
  9. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, Ladybug and Dave! This information was nowhere on either the Garmin website or the geocaching website that I could find. It wasn't in the garmin operating manual either. I had tried several times to get the information into that exact folder, but apparently it has to be zipped then unzipped to work. Thank you both again!
  10. Thanks, Dave. But how do I get the query on to my GPSr? And it was really simple to get the one on there, but I want them ALL on there. (Or at least all within a specific area or route.)
  11. HELP ME! - before I throw this $350 rock through my window. I just bought a Garmin Oregon 450 from REI today. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get geocaches on it. Garmin seems to have their own competitor site called opencaching, but I don't want to use that. I like it here. I've been geocaching using my smartphone and managed to find 188 caches that way. I just wanted something to help me get closer in trees. If you have any idea, please walk me through it. Thanks in advance! Lynn Marie P
  12. As the world's least stealthy geocacher, I've had to instruct two police officers in my town about the game. Apparently a 43 year old with a 19 and 10 year old wandering around parking lots appear to be up to no good!
  13. That is TOTALLY COOL! I've been wanting to hide a cache in a tree but my hubby keeps talking me out of it. He doesn't think any of the old cachers will be able to find it. Now I'm definitely doing it. And I'll be sure not to make it a micro or nano or whatever just to keep the OP happy!
  14. I suspect that you missed more chaff that way than grist.
