  1. There are 2 of us on one account- generally we are together but occasionally he goes to ky to visit relatives and he takes them out- while I am at home caching with my mom or neice-he has found some here and forgot to log- so he lets me find them again and check the date he found them
  2. Well if anyone is out geocaching and find a yard or garage sale- check them out- you may get a better deal than at a dollar store- a few years ago in my search to find prizes for our family halloween party- someone gave me a box of 300 markers individually wrapped- they were some kind of invisible marker and only worked on certain paper- but I gave them to the church- I have found a fishing hook in a cache once- not sure what they were thinking- i took it out and threw it away As far as the rocks go- I have a bag of rocks- only there rubies- and they are not worth squat till you get them polished- would that be a bad thing to leave if i put a note saying what it was
  3. When i first started caching I did not use my name at all. I had made the account under my aunts name cause she had the app on her phone. We had problems finding any at first and was almost a year later before I got started. I signed my regular name for a few of the first caches. I logged under her account and took over the account and changed the name. No worries she knows I did it. So after a few weeks I took her out to locate some caches and she signed the log but never signed online. I even set up her an account. She is just not interested in geocaching that much. She will occasionaly go but is not into it. I also have been to a location and forgot a pen altogether. I usually leave a note saying that I found it and forgot pen I will be back to sign before I claim it as a an actual find. before I knew some of the rules of etiquette for this game I didnt know that you could change out a log if its soaked. I do not think that I would like to do that. If a log can be recovered and changed at all I would rather the CO do it. Maybe as I get to know some of them over the summer at some local events I may feel more comfortable. It might be that some of the extra finds could be out with regular cachers and are just trying out the game and may not like it(I can't see why not).
  4. I am still a newbie to geocaching. We cache with and without the kids. The kids of course always want to trade items. We try to find small toys for them to trade. Are they worth alot? No there not. Between the gas prices and feeding everyone while we are out cost a lot of money. The kids will keep a few trinkets in there pockets. I wish that we could afford to put better trinkets in there. We started geocaching cause it was supposed to be something that was more inexpensive. After a few weeks writing everything down, that got old really quick. So we spent 150.00(had a 50.00 bestbuy coupon)on a gps. The gas prices are only going to get worse. So we will have to pick and choose, if we get to go at all. I think the hunt is the main thing. We get to get out and see things that we may never have known were there and it is great excercise for all of us. So we are not goona keep up with the jones's on this game. You may need to realize that there are whole lot of people in far worse situations than us.
  5. Wow he does get around. My account has some of that going on. There are 2 of us on it. My bf visits his family and takes them out geocaching. I will cache around home with family while he is away. That account is pretty extreme though.
  6. It started out as something cheap to do with the kids. We do it more without them.(they are only here everyother weekend. It is great excercise. making excercise fun is the only way to get my arse of the couch. I have been caching only a short time but have been thru some really neat places that I would have never have seen otherwise. It is a great stress reliever until the kids are arguing about who wants something out of the cache. I can deal with that though.
  7. My grandma gave me the idea. She knows all the family loves scavenger hunts and mushroom hunting. She read an article and showed it to me. So when the weather got nice and a few hours to spare- we headed out. There were 6 of us. phone app said we were standing on top of it. We had no idea what to look for. We didnt find it. It was in a park so we tried another one located there. There was nothing there(coords were definitely off) So we gave up and said this is stupid. A year later- no gps-aimed with the clue only- looked 3 different times. I blamed it on the snow for the reason I could not find it. A few weeks later I wrote a few done and thought I would try again. Finally, found one. Have been hooked ever since. I love the fact that it is great excercise. making excercise fun is the only way I am goona do it. Oh and btw the ones in the park were there at the time we looked but have since gone missing.
  8. I was not aware of this. I will fix it. Thanks for letting me know.
  9. This is what NOT to do. Post a tracking # in any log or forum. It might be good to review this pinned topic in the forums: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=262591
  10. I found it and moved it. There was a strip where the number should be. It is there and so faint it took a few tries and a lighter. I even noted the log for future users.
  11. It is. the front says Idaho 2007 with mountains and a deer on it. The back says Idaho Geocachers-with 2 feet and an X in the center. It shows it being logged a few time before me. I am assuming I must be doing something wrong.
  12. Is that the hexagonal picture coin?
  13. I found a 2007 idaho trackable coin. There is no tracking number on it. It says I need a private tracking number. I have emailed the owner and no response. The only thing that I can do is put notes in the log. If you have any suggestions please let me know. I have only been caching a short time. I am assuming there is something I am missing. If you can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. I have decided I will not pick up any more coins or trackables.
  14. Thanks for all the help. I finally got my gps. I got tired of writing all of the info down. We have found over a 100. We did pretty well. Goona use the new gps this weekend.
  15. OK- so- I knew we would have to get a gps. It only took a week not months. Lol- I have sat this comp for hours writing it down. I tried my moms gps last weekend. (tomtom)Its not exactly what I am looking for but it may have to due for the time being. I have looked at many caches around and knew we couldnt do them. It is fun to have to look a little harder. The first day we started, we did the caches close to home. We had to come back and review a few times. We did find a ftf on our 1st day and 1 again on our 3rd. It would be great to go paperless but a little out of my price range. If any of you have suggestions. That would be appreciated.
  16. Today was the first day we went looking. I was thinking that having a gps would take the fun out of hunting. We managed to find 14 without a gps. It was fun to try to remember the maps and where it was located. Plus it was great excercise to go out and look. Although there were a few we had to go back and look on the map again. So what are the advantages of having the gps? I would imagine going paperless alot better and you probably could find more caches. Is there alot that do this without gps? Anyways had a great time and plan on going back out again as soon as its nice out. Happy Hunting!
