  1. I'm not sure to which group you refer? Or to what group you imply I was including myself in?
  2. Oh and just FYI, the link above has been disabled now, so it all remains private again
  3. Until your very recent posts ALL the cachers on here are "hidden" unless you really are a Doctor? It makes my points no less valid.
  4. I think you brought it into this forum's domain in the first place by mentioning the "aggro"
  5. Hear Hear, Harrumph, Aye Aye and all that ! never thought I'd vote for the Greens, I don't like cabbage !
  6. Just to clarify...yes, I am a seasoned cacher Yes I am a number chaser Yes I am an outdoorsy geeky type. I'm also a bit fluffy and one of a pair! That is absolutely correct. They do. So when the FIRST micros got placed, many years ago, by all the well meaning Oldies out there, THEY set the trend. The newbies didn't INVENT micros, they just followed the trend. Instead of micro bashing, we should perhaps look to the accounts of the people who are now bemoaning the fact that they are everywhere and ask ourselves WHO STARTED THIS?
  7. I actually think this shows a level of intelligence, to ask where to put a micro that people won't automatically dismiss! There are a lot of micro's out there that are stunning pieces of engineering in the most outrageous places that really make you go WOW in a way that a rusty ammo can in a ditch cannot compete with. Well done for asking, at least he didn't do the obvious and place a LPC Hides back under the rock....ooh look, a micro...anyone got apen ?
  8. There is no hard and fast rule that means you have to put a cache in your back yard Years ago there was a movement called Close To Home caches where you would leave your contact details in the cache for local cachers to get to know each other. Each cache would be placed very close to your home to assist meeting/or knowledge of where individual cachers were. Nowadays that's covered by more events na get togethers, so there's no need to restrict yourself to cache areas in your immediate vicinity. You just need to show the reviewer that you are close enough to maintain your caches adequately, so you can place your caches further afield and enjoy a better variety of scenery. Good luck finding the perfect spot, it's great to get happy logs and to share great places with other cachers
  9. That sounds like a great idea. You should look at the route and maybe organise a couple of events on the way round so that people can join in for sections or support your Ch***ty with a raffle!
  10. I've seen folks at events issuing lists of coin numbers, and some people happily gobble them up. Personally I wouldn't discover a coin unless I'd actually fondled it in person. So if I fondle in public I will be ridiculed in private?
  11. I would ignore it, although it does seem a bit mean! Maybe they were tired from all the driving they seem to have done over the last few days. They've found caches in London and Cheltenham on the same day, then Bristol, then London and South Wales the next day. That's gotta wear you down !
  12. Sorry for the misunderstanding dino, I hadn't edited the multi quote boxes enough! It wasn't referring to any one particular cacher, just the "Oldies" in general who do " hark back! " They know who they are !
  13. Are you actually allowed to do that or does it count as commercial/promotion/something other frowned upon by GS? How about "IF you pop into the xxxx, you'll find they serve a good pint of xxxx ! " Oh, hang on, only the Aussies would agree with you
  14. I use www.glu.org (Green Lane Users) or www.GLASS-UK.org ( more for motorists) which give you all the maps then just search using nearest cache facility and cross refer. Bit long winded though....
  15. How many times have i done THAT! Darn those sensitive touch screens! Screen lock is a sanity saver
  16. Oh thanks for that Stuey. It's really helpful. That'll keep everyone busy for a while!
  17. I really don't understand the mentality of this. If the cache is worth doing then what difference does the date make? Me neither. If a cache is good it's worth finding, if it's not good then it's not. Don't really see where age comes into it..... It's always nice to see cachers put effort in to a cache, but old or new it's quality that is important to me. Most of the "Oldies" on here hark back to "The Good Old Days" of caching where you hiked 3 miles for an ammo box in the woods, then they come on here and say that age has nothing to do with it? Surprising! How can you tell quality until you've done a cache, and that goes for old ones as well as new ones? It has always been assumed that the older caches have always been placed with more care, etc. It is refreshing to see an "Oldie" realising that new ones can be good too!
  18. I wonder if it's a young cacher doing a Duke of Edinburgh award..? They certainly knew local experienced cachers, judging by the logged comments, so I guess they may have some experience. It just seems a shame that an opportunity to advise people about the local area has been missed. I love reading cache pages that explain the history or geography around the area I'm caching in. The whole point of my cache experience is to be taken to interesting places I wouldn't neccessarily have found without a cache there.
  19. There are certainly more of them around than we will ever know about !
  20. Just to clarify. I do not think that ANY phone is better than a purpose built Gps. I use a Garmin for caching. They are rugged and more accurate than the iphone and all other phones I have used. Obviously Garmin, being purpose built, they have all the features you need, apart from being able to phone for help when you land at the bottom of the quarry! What I was saying was that the application for the iphone is currently second to none. If other smart phones had access to that application, then the fun would really start. Just out of interest, and not being argumentative, what major limitations have you found on the iphone compared to your other phone ( whether or not caching related) Thanks
  21. have you ever used one of the other smartphones around? blackberry, android, or even windows mobile based phones (even though those suck)? In reply to my quote above, the iphone is so much more than just the expensive "i" which was what had been implied previously. In response to your question - Yes I have plenty of experience of multiple smart phones, and for GEOCACHING the iphone is the winner because there is a dedicated application from GC.com. I think we can all write windows based mobiles off as I agree, they suck. However, having tested some of the new android platform phones, in particular the Sony X10, these look like they could give Apple a run for their money, as I think in time, these will be as good as if not better than the iphone, if their apps can compete. But obviously Apple are not going to sit back and let that happen, so their next gen phones should be worth waiting for.
