  1. No. Taxing it is politically unfavorable. Now leasing it to a foreign company for 75 years so they can tax it is a winning proposal.
  2. I will be amazed if there are five left in a five mile radius. I amvery disheartened at the turn of events. Wish I would have discovered the area much sooner, so I could have enjoyed it and caching together.

    IDNR...

Actually, the archived number will be higher than I reported. My filter does not kill archived caches if I found them. From the two weekends I have been down there (forgot the BAGO bash), I found around 50. So the number is much higher than 138. In my recent find list, there is a huge amount of red. I have one section where I can fill the entire screen with finds that are now archived. (18 on that screen alone.)

    IDNR...

I was looking for this thread earlier, but it hadn't been started yet. I ran my pocket queries for 85 mile and then ran my archived filter. This normally returns 20-30 caches. This week (today) returned 233 caches. They all can't be in that area (and a lot are events), but I have never seen that amount of regression. It's really disappointing to, as I only was able to visit the area once for the unofficial event a few weeks ago. I was planning on doing some caching and camping this summer, but it appears that won't happen. If this continues, I'll have to cancel my vacation week to visit State Properties, as there won't be any caches left. By the way, I exported the archives from GSAK and only highlighted the two (three?) areas listed. I have 138 archived so far. My guess is that will go up next week when I run more queries. (My guess is that there were about 250 in the area last week.) If someone can host an image, I can send my Mapsource screen grab.
  5. Area 51 for me too. If it's too loud to sleep, drink more!
  6. And a minimum of 113% of all statistics are made up or shown out of context of the source data. (Hey, if they can't spell, I don't expect math skills... )
  7. Heather, I can't stop laughing. Teach them young.... Does anyone know if there is a listing of cachers finds by age? Ali Kat has to have the most finds for her age. Heck she is #115 in Michigan and #3752 in the U.S. and #5384 in the world!!!! Not bad for the little girl who know knows the word cache after visiting more than 1000. Jon
  8. Well, we have a little posting to do to catch up to the biggest thread. Here is my +1. Last weekend was great to get out and do 11+ miles for (my) day. Seeing everyone and having fun was a great break from the winter blahhhs. The first third of the day was pretty social. The second third was great caching with a fast moving Geo of cachers. The third half was self induced brutality. Chris took some amazing photos (once again), I see. Great job. Any way to get a high res version of the waterfall group pic? As for ISQs, looks like I only have 75. MSQs- 1. OSQs - 3
  9. C%$P, I thought you went on one heck of a caching spree and had 5000 caches. Congrats on the 5000th post in Indiana. NOW GET OFF THE INTERNET AND GO CACHING (in Indiana)!!!
  10. I've been wondering about the compass in this unit. In the past, one had to calibrate the compass to remove the very slight difference in magnetic field due to different batteries. However, this unit has magnets that are many, many times more powerful in the rock and roller wheel. How can the unit compensate for an extremely strong magnetic field that moves as the wheel is moved? Maybe this is why we are seeing more compass problems than before?
  11. Can someone comment on the feasibility of using the South Shore to get here? I have never done it, but it looks like the end of the line is ~ 1 mile from the Garmin store... The one way ticket appears to be $10.75, which would cover about the first hour of parking, if I were to drive. Thanks, Jon
  12. After fighting reserveworld for a site, I now have site 48.
  13. Well, it looks like I get my choice of electric or electric site for my tent....
  14. Congrats to you too TTI! (Sorry I missed you.)
  15. Congrats to Wolverine Warriors for finding their 1500th while CACHING IN INDIANA!
  16. Mine started its way to Totton, UK. I didn't help it much, but its started. The problem with these tags is that they should have had the goal engraved on them with the TB number, so that I know if I'll be helping it or hurting its goal by moving it. Jon
  17. Based off one log just posted about two meeting up with some "Indiana people" and finding it, I would say they were successful. CONGRATS ON COMPLETING THE JOURNAL!! Now please come back and regale us with your stories.
  18. I really wish that I could join the Journal hunt. Maybe there will be enough leftover Indiana people to take another group in late winter / spring? Good luck for all that are going. Be safe and have a blast! Jon
  19. Depending where this ends up, I may be able to be of service. After the location is official, let me know. Unless you want help before then, that is.... Jon
  20. Watch how much you buff with some of the plastic scratch removers. I took the coating off the area around a scratch on my 76CS and made it worse. (Thsi was sort of an anti-glare coating.) So the scratch is gone and there is an even bigger area that now reflects and is hard to se through...
  21. From what I have seen, your Beta Site testers are the FTF people. Most seem to understand that there may be a little more work needed to find a cache for the first time. I've centainly spent my fair amount of time looking for caches way off... Jon
  22. Well, I looked at Mapsource and there is a Belleville in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and quite a few other states. I'm guessing you are in IL, as that is where your finds are. (And if I would have looked here, I wouldn't have had to fire up Mapsource. Doh!) That may be a little far for me, but with the info above, maybe someone will contact you. Good luck with your new obsession, Jon
