  1. A little git of Googling shows that they were released to Canada in March. So they should be in distribution, but might be a little hard to find right now. Once you have them, Google Play has been updated to accept them. It does not appear that they have to be purchased in Canada to be redeemed in Canada. *Check yourself before purchase.
  2. REI. Give me a minute and I'll track it down... Here it is. http://www.rei.com/product/798317/garmin-auto-mount-adapter-oregondakota-series To my knowledge, REI is the only one that sells it outside of the navigation kit. (Although, I bet the community changes my knowledge soon...)
  3. I've been running this for a little while with no issues. WAAS seems to be working better than any release I have tried before.
  4. Thanks for sharing. That's amazing!
  5. In 6 years and 2926 finds, I have 17 NM and 6 NA. IMHO, some of the ones you logged may have needed it and others I believe it was too soon. You may be a little trigger happy, especially on NA.
  6. The first portion of the update forced new firmware on my Oregon 550. I now have software 4.2 and GPS firmware 4.52.
  7. You each have to log individually. However, if one on the team uses a GPS that creates field notes, that file may be shared and uploaded on each account to make it a bit easier.
  8. A newly created one ran for me, but took 20 minutes to generate and is downloading at about 4 Kb per second. Everything is a bit slow, but at least its still online.
  9. There appear to be three limits. 1) The number of tiles has to be less than 4000. 2) The maximum single image size is 4 GB. 3) The maximum MicroSD card size should be 32GB. All three of these come from the Oregon Wiki and the links are below. http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/Maps#FA...Garmin%20Oregon? http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/Hardwar...hould%20I%20buy? http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/Maps#FA...Garmin%20Oregon?
  10. I had considered downgrading before upgrading when my upgrade from 3.71 to 3.80 failed. Tonight I went back to 3.4 and then to 3.8. The firmware upgrade was not an issue then. The only problem was that I had to restore my profiles from a save. (I saved all files on the GPS before downgrading the firmware.)
  11. 3.71 to 3.80 failed for me. I got the "validating update 0 %" message. I let it sit for more than 5 minutes with no luck. Forcing mass storage mode worked for me for recovery.
  12. If only I could remember where my calendar is...

    2010 Fall Picnic

Looks like I will be attending. Will be reserving a campsite, possibly #7. I'll have to figure out the registration, as the pre-registration link on the cache page doesn't create an e-mail for me, like I think it's supposed to. Things for tonight....
  14. Well, you really only have to have your GPS on at the beginning and the end. It will tell you to reconnect, but it will continue to download in the background. The install will stop before the third step. Reconnection will allow the install to finish. I am disappointed that we can't have the download file. I do not have high speed internet at home. My connection is through a cellular modem. Normally, I would download this at work and sneakernet it home for installation. Since that isn't an option, it took 7+ hours to download on my connection.
  15. Anyone know how the "Added ability to move waypoints using the map" works? I'm having trouble figuring out how to make this function. Does it work only on waypoints or does it work on caches, too? [unlikely]. I've been bitten by map moves with caches on previous Garmin units...
  16. After a caching run, I went to send my finds up to see the easiest D/T grid I've found. Unfortunately, I now see this is gone. I wanted to chime in and thank you for a great site that I will miss...
  17. 2 parks down this weekend... I don't think I've ever been to some of the parks in the lower regions of the state before...
  18. After a full day of hiking and caching, I'll say that (if) the map redraws faster on a pan, the cache overlays take forever. I'm running a 550 and the current load out is 3299 caches. Child waypoints are POIs.
  19. Well, I had my scare loading this firmware. The firmware file verified and loaded (blue scroll bar). However, after the reboot, it got stuck at the Garmin screen, with no text around the Garmin logo. After ten minutes, I had to pull the batteries, as even a long hold on the power switch did not work. Thankfully, it went through (a very long) loading cycle and powered up. I'll try it out today and see what happens...

    Finds PQ

Just created a "My Finds ..." and am getting the same server error.
  21. The cheapest I found is through Virgin prepaid. http://www.virginmobileusa.com/mobile-broadband The backend network appears to match Sprint's coverage in my area. $10 for 100 megs over 10 days would go a long way for Geocaching.
  22. Verizon does prepaid mobile broadband. Certainly isn't cheap, but its there. These also have very low data caps. http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/mobileb...and/?page=plans I'm sure other companies have similar plans.
  23. I'm not sure if you are a tent camper or RVer. From the tent camping perspective, I would camp in the general camping area. Unless you are a night owl, that allows you to retreat from the party area. (Area 51). Feel free to join us at Area 51 for as long as you like, though. For the general camping area, as it is a fairgrounds, there isn't much shade. A canopy can be very nice. I believe that general camping allows a car on the campsite. If there are more cars than can fit on your site, there is parking within reasonable walking distance for additional cars. If you are bringing anything electric, watch the specific site notes when reserving. Some require RV adapters to bring them back to normal 15 amp 120 volt outlets. (These are less than $10, but need to be brought along and are available at many places. [Walmart is one.) I know you asked about specific sites, but I don't think I can help with a specific site. Any other specific questions that I could be of assistance with?
