    Newbie.

So a few weeks ago I was on here saying I couldn't find any. Well I think I am beginning to see outside the box. I still have trouble with some that should be really easy but seem really hard. Others like the one today was the size of a quarter and I found and I probably shouldn't have. Anyway, I am up to 34 finds. This is so much fun. Thanks k
  2. Thanks for the Ebay tip and the help here. I found 7 today. YIIPPPPEEEEE.
  3. I also have to say that all my finds with the exception of 1 has been using the longtitude and latitude features not having the geomate direct me to the cache. I wonder why that is.
  4. A wise old cacher gave me a great tip. I found 3 today and I am only a beginner. I just started last week. Go onto Ebay a search for Geocache container's to get an idea of what they look like. I had to do that to start the cachers eye. I was really frustrated, especially when the ones I couldn't find said they found it in the dark. But it really helped to see it for myself on ebay.
  5. A coworker and me were out geocaching yesterday and she had a fanch $500 GPS device and I had my geomate Jr. I am please to say that my $69.99 device got the exact same location as hers. I was really happy to see that my coordinates and hers were right not. I am so excited to continue looking. A couple of coworkers are also brand new and excited about geocaching also.
  6. I just looked at ebay and WOW. I had no idea. I guess I have more looking to do. The one with the screw and nut that come apart. Dang.....
  7. What does GZ, beacon and stealth mean. Maybe that will give me an idea too. I never thought of the magentic key thingy. Cool.
  8. yes all 3 micros that i can't find all have light poles and are in parking lots. Will have to look again.
  9. Amazing isn't it. There is one just outside the parking lot where I work. Still haven't found it because its a micro but will keep looking.
  10. So is there a class to learn how to think outside the box. I think I missed that day in school!
  11. So there is a cache right outside my office. My coordinates are right on, but it says micro. I even had a fellow geocacher coworker go with me and we searched high an low and can't find it. How small are the micros. What is even more frustrating is other's logged that they drove up and picked it up. Or found after dark. What Then I searched another micro by my work, the space is pretty open flat and not much there. I don't see anything. Can anybody PLEASE help. On a brighter side I did find a relatively larger one on the way home. I stopped in somewhere and was getting the geomate going and a lady said Oh are you geocaching its over that way. So i picked up. At least I can say I sort of found one today. Oh another question, do your arms and legs look like you got stuck in a sticker bush?
  12. No I didn't find the cache and its bugging the heck out of me. I know its there. I probably will go back this weekend when I have a bit more time and less traffic.
  13. Today I went to a cache near my house. It prided itself on being a quick grab. Well not for a rookie like me. I was bushwhacking my way through some heavy brush and darn near tripped over some bones. Yes bones. Now we aren't talking bird, or rodent, we are talking really big bones - like the size of my forearm bones. Being the newbie and not sure what the rules are I called the police who kindly came and took the bones (whatever they might be) and will have them brought to the crime lab for identification. Can I consider that one found. I don't want to go near that one again.
  14. Thanks so much. I am going to try again tonight.
  15. I am having trouble with my new geomate Jr. I have fresh batteries. When I get to a location, it will say 10 ft to the right, then when I move it will say 30 feet to the left. It spins me around in a circle and never gets very close. Is there a way to observe the coorindates as they change. Also I noticed that alot of the caches near my home and work are not in my top 20 and they have been around for months. I would liek to observe the coordinates and find these as well. Thanks
  16. I had a Garmin Nuvi that got me in the park but just purchased a Geomate Jr on sale at Target. My first time out it got me within 3ft of the prize. I had to laugh because where the 3 ft were was a gigantic tree. I thought naaaaahhhhh. But yep it was right there. Anyway, my question is: What if I want to geocache at work. How do I get the geomate to give me the 20 closest to my work. Do i make my work the home location, and then change it back when I actually get home. Thanks, and my next purchase is the uploader.
  17. I have to say, I was about ready to give up yesterday. But thanks to all the tips I did find my first cache yesterday and my GPS was right not target by about 10 feet. I was absolutely thrilled. My kids, are thrilled, my oldest son and daughter in law want to come next weekend. And they want to hide one. How do you not get hooked. And to think I am outside walking around and having a blast. Love it love it love it. Thanks very much. A much pleased newbie.
  18. Does a Garmin Nuvi have an off road option. Also I have the chance to purchase a Magellan Triton 400 - Hiking GPS receiver - TFT - 320 x 240 - color for $89.00 is that a good one. Sorry to bombarbd with the questions but I have had so much fun. I also heard about letterboxing and want to try that too.
  19. Okay today was my very first day geocaching and I have several questions. I searched for about 8 and found only 1. Are they really that hard to find. Are they always under alot of brush and stickers, or can they be buried or something else. What am I looking for. I found one today and it was really obvious because the container was pretty big. Is that normal. I am using a Garmin Nuvi and using a suggestion given here, when i get to the coordinates there is absolutely nothing there. What next. Move out in a circle? Any help is appreciated. I am a bit frustrated.
  20. Brand spanking new. Found zero so far. New Brighton
  21. Me again. I just tried that and it puts the coordinates up. This is so exciting. I am a divorced Mom with limited income. I try to plan things for my kids that don't revolve around computers or sitting on their butts. I cant believe how excited my kids are. Even the 16 year old. How did I not find this before.
  22. I will give that a shot. My kids woke up this morning and there is one in a park just down the street. We will go over there after breakfast. The satellite page comes up, I will see if I can get it to populate the coordinates in. That would be great. Thanks again.
  23. Can you recommend one that isn't to difficult to use. My kids seem to like doing this also. Thanks
  24. So I tried my first search tonight. I think I found it but I am not sure. How do you know you found it. I am also using a Garmin Nuvi which is my sons. It gets me in the area but not very close. I think I actually found the first one by accident. How do I know. Thanks, this was fun.
