  1. I used to be addicted to this game. At one point, there were a few of us who would compete to see who would be the first to log a new cache. When my kids were young, we had many wonderful adventures, and memories, getting out and searching - me, for the find; the kids, for the swag. The kids are all now grown and I have relocated several times over the years. Out of curiosity, I looked up the website to see what is new in the community. Was I ever in a for big surprise! What happened to this game? I see that today, I have to pay to do the simplest of things in this game that used to be free and available to anyone. Heck, I even have to pay to see my own statistics. What a sad turn of affairs. I don't reckon I'll be looking through here much anymore.
  2. What exactly is a lurker? If it's someone who reads more than posts, than I would qualify. However, I only enter these realms about twice a year or so, and then mostly just to see what folks are using for their avatars. Today happens to be one of those days. As for playing the game, I've been at it for almost 3 years now between San Diego, CA and Tempe AZ. I enjoy getting outside and geocaching is just something else to do while I'm out there. Mark A. 3. Both of the sites mentioned here are very cool! My "Gee Whiz" list of trivia has just grown.
  4. I've seen rocks that have a hollowed out underside used used as a cache container. I'm not sure what the original intention of those rocks are - aquariums maybe?
  5. For those that follow multiple threads, sorry about the double post. I originally sent the following message to the wrong thread: I have recently moved from the San Diego area to the Phoenix Valley where I am caching now, but there are some caches in San Diego that I've enjoyed finding so I've been keeping tabs on their activity. Cowles Mountain (GC5EB) is such a cache. The latest log for this cache is rather interesting. What's up with this CaptainTrio? I find this interesting in light of the fact that here in the Phoenix Valley we just had a cacher who thought it would be fun to raid caches, leaving only the cache log, and deposit the trinkets in some other cache. According to him, retrieving the trinkets and returning them to the appropriate cache was then up to the rest of the caching community out here. After some not so subtle hints of receiving a personal thrashing once we found out who this pirate was, the cacher seemed to think his idea wasn't going over so well and his diabolical activity came to a halt. So now I'll be watching to see what develops with this San Diego "Pirate". Mark A. Pedersen aka Highwayhavoc Never tell a young person that something cannot be done. God may have been waiting centuries for someone ignorant enough of impossible to do that very thing.

  7. I bought my first car when I was sixteen and tried to come up with a name for it. When my brother found out what I was trying to do, he took one look at my 1964 VW bug that was in major need of a restoration and said, "That looks like a highway havoc". After I picked myself off the floor and stopped laughing I reverently commissioned my car with the new name. The car has now been long gone, but the name lives on with me.
  8. I'm a recent transplant from San Diego, CA to Tempe, AZ. Before changing locales, I wore the hat of a: Dolphin Trainer Crane Operator Small Boat Driver CAD Drafter Mark A. Pederson
