  1. I still don't get what everyone is afraid of. An audit log doesn't tell me your name, address, or pin number.

Nobody's afraid of anything, it's just a matter of choice. If I don't want to show up in that audit log, I have no option of doing that. Even the forums let me log in "invisible". The reason why somebody may want to do that is completely irrelevant.

Somebody is afraid/worried/concerned/freaked out about something or we wouldn't be discussing how to opt out of this feature...what is the harm?

  2. It is like you are worried about being caught with your hand in the cookie jar

It's probably that kind of assumption that concerns the OP.

I just don't understand what kind of cookie the OP is worried about being exposed.....

I've read of people being falsely accused of stealing caches because of audit logs.

I must be naive....I have never heard of anything like this....

Well, no wonder. You have only been a member since November, 2010. B)

    :D

Not that it really matters.....but that is FEBRUARY 2010...

Right. There was a point to my post, however. Perhaps not an obvious one.

You zoomed right over my head....maybe that was the intention...no idea.....let me go get some ice cream and I will feel much better.

  5. Isn't it better to place one in an area that YOU can maintain? Depending on others to take care of something that isn't theirs really isn't the best way to go....just my thoughts....

Why not just take some TB's with you and place them there instead of planting a cache.

  6. I have a Nuvi 500 and have been using it for a year and it works great. Have you tried it anywhere outside of your yard? Maybe its just a dead spot. Other than that like others have mentioned you can switch from driving to walking mode on the main menu so make sure that it checked. As long as you are good to go there maybe something is wrong with the unit. I would update to the newest firmware from Garmins site and if that does not fix it contact Garmin for a swap. My 500 at least gets me down to 15 feet or so, 30 sounds too far off.

yes, I have tried the 500 for a few different caches....I don't know anything about firmware and will check that out. 15 feet is still not good....but Nuvi 265 would take me dead on to GZ. Why have they gotten less effective?

  7. I have a garmin nuvi 255 W. Love it. used it to geocache for a year before getting my first hand held. I go to whear to, then bottom right corner an arrow, arrow down and the last one is coridance click on that. It will give you the cords of where you are. erase or back space the cords and enter where your cache cords are then press go. the car will direct you to the site. When you get out of the car and look for the cache, go to menue click on tools and click on where am I. Then just start walking the cords change as you walk, watch for your cache cords to appear.

My Nuvi 265W needs a new battery so I bought a Nuvi500....I hate the 500 and am buying a new battery and an installation kit for my 265...I also have a Oregon and had a Colorado and the 265 finds GZ better than any of them!!
