  1. Dear Geocaching Friends,

Today begins my 10th year of geocaching, and I can honestly say that I am having every bit as much fun today, as when I found my first geocache on 2-24-2002. I just wanted to make you aware of a little contest that I am having to celebrate. I am going to award a special prize package to the first geocacher who finds and logs all of my active geocaches. That’s active caches, so it doesn’t matter whether or not you have done any of my past archived caches. At this moment, there are 83 active caches, but you will need to have logged all of my active caches up to the date that you complete them all. In other words, I may or may not have new caches in the future before someone completes this challenge. My promise to you is that if I do publish any new caches between now and then, it will be purely random, and not an attempt to put anyone off from finishing the challenge. If you check my profile, you will find a chart that shows a kind of leader board of the finders of my caches that I will update at least once a week until the contest is over.

The prize? You ask??? Begins with a brand new, never opened GEOMATE JR. Many of you know that I won this nice prize, which normally sells for $69.99 at the Going Coastal event back in November, and I have struggled with what I would do with it ever since. I hope this is the great idea I’ve been looking for. Also included in the prize package will be a numbered set of my personal geocoins, along with one of each of my pathtags. There is already one unactivated geocoin that has been added to the bag, and maybe, just maybe, I will think of something else neat that I can put in there.

What about rules? I want this to be fun, and rules aren’t always considered to be fun. They do however keep us from anarchy! Don’t they? The one really important rule that I’ve seen the need for so far is that the prize here is intended for a geocacher who has found and logged ALL of my active geocaches. It does not mean a team of 83 geocachers who have all done one of my geocaches. Nor does it mean two geocachers who work as a team and sign each other in on 40+ of my geocaches. PLEASE, be honest and win the contest fairly. I know that if you are working as a family, or a couple, there are going to be certain caches where everyone was not present, and that is not a problem. BUT it is NOT fair for two people to go in different directions and visit different caches, and sign each other in as a team just to log them all. OK, enough said.

I just want to close by saying that geocaching has become a very good and important part of my life, and many of you are the reason why, and this is my humble attempt to give a little back, and hopefully have some fun in the process!

Congratulations on your decade of caching!!

I am in Phoenix or I would be in the car right now attacking this challenge....

  2. I am a middle school teacher and my students have heard quite a bit about geocaching from me. Today one of the girls came in with a nano and said that she found it in the dirt while walking to school. I have searched all of the caches around our school and none of them meet the names that are signed on the log...so, there is a mystery...someone lost a nano...just don't know who....

  3. ....Think inside THE BOX.

    Presenting...THE BOX...

    THE BOX is free!

The Shipping rate is flat ($10.95)!

The weight limit is 70 pounds!

Have to admit, not joining this mission, as from here, I really don't understand or comply.

Box is NOT free for me.

Postage of a box that size would be $30 to $45 - ouch!

I've been refining an idea that will be almost the same, but will allow international players...and even MORE randomness.

Robert...help help...I LOST my name....never let young children anywhere near your email account...please help...

  4. Raja the Wonder Dog would love to be a part of the pet mission!! Raja is a large "Border Collie/German Shepard" mix...she goes on ALL cache excursions...has had her share of cactus needles in her paws, wears her own backpack with her water bottle and water bowl in it, and loves to be out traveling with us. Raja rocks and loves GeoCaching!

  5. I found a pick ax when traveling between two caches .1 distance from each other today. It was in a wash in phoenix, arizona behind some restaurants I kept it as it had obviously been there for a long time and was sarounded by trash. The pick itself is in good shape and has a rubber coated handle. i felt weird carrying it for a quarter mile back to the car and into the gas station parking lot. It will now help me remove a stump from my backyard

bafl101 - WHAT is going on in Phoenix? Check this out!! Look what I also found between two caches in a wash in Phoenix about two weeks ago!! We had to carry it a long way back to the car....it looks like a fireman's ax maybe left behind after a brush fire....or are there ax murderers hanging out in Phoenix washes?

  6. Do you mean Boilerplate?

I love this answer....this poor person came to the forum looking for some help and received some jabbing...perhaps good natured but still it really wasn't nice....boilerplate could have been some geocache slang for something totally bizarre and a dictionary certainly could not assist with that...for example - I still don't know what an LPC is and no dictionary is able to help me with that...if I ask here what it means, I am sure that many of you will choose this moment to bash my mentality....I am a middle school language arts teacher and I DO know how to use a dictionary...

Now...go climb a hill and find a 5/5 to take out your pent up energy.... :)

  7. We have had the same problem for months. The Waymarking site seems unaffected, the exact same photos upload there.

Oddly enough I had a terrible time with the Waymarking site trying to upload photos - until recently. Unless I resized the photo it could have taken me 10+ tries to load the photo. Now the photos load on the first try. And GC.com appears to have gone the other way.

Did they swap software or something?

  8. Oh goodness gracious....people, relax....this is just one more nuance to the geocaching game...I have 18 caches, many with favorite points and I made these fun, creative containers because I like the idea of a cacher finding them and then laughing out loud or thinking "Hey, cool container."

So, I like the favorite system...so I receive a little bit of encouragement and recognition....quit trying to wreck my fun by knocking the Favorite Point system...if you don't like it, then ignore it...otherwise, let me have my fun for the day...geesh.....

  9. I am not up on the Challenge Cache rules, but I DO like the idea behind this Challenge Cache. Some cachers revel in racking up lots of FTF's others go after 5 star difficulty caches, while others like puzzle caches, etc. I love caching but what I really enjoy the most is hiding fun, silly, unexpected cache containers and receiving words of thanks in the logs of cachers that find them. I love the fact that I am putting a smile on some cachers face or making someone actually laugh out loud when discovering my container. So, this challenge cache would have been right up my alley. I have 18 cache hides - most have favorite points with one having 8 points (easy enough for someone to verify).

So, thank you AZCachemeister for trying to encourage cachers to raise the level of their cache hides and containers to something other than Altoids tins under a light post (I like these hides too so don't anyone yell at me about this point).

I hope AZCachemeister continues to find a way to achieve this goal within whatever rules are out there that seem to have ruffled feathers of some of our AZ cachers (all are great folks that I have come to like and enjoy!).

  10. Oh GeoCache Gods...please be gentle with me....

Picture this...newbie cacher...less than 20 caches....excited to find a really tricky one....posted picture of the magnetic bolt on the log of the cache and made the CO REALLY angry with me....I immediately deleted the picture and promised to manage my excitement much more closely from then on.....

may as well get this off my chest....logged a smiley without signing the log from a cache that was at least seven feet up on a telephone pole....I am so sorry but I had left my stilts home that day....stupid...I know....

Made 13 year old son take off his shorts and wade through waist deep water in his red boxer shorts to get our first FTF....he refused to let me take a picture of the cache find in action....I only took a picture of his shoes and shorts on the bank.

replaced a clear broken smashed cache container with an extra green Diamond nut can that I had with me and forgot to tell the CO and the post still shows it as clear....I should tell him now...but, I haven't....

put my footsteps in the sand walking away from my cache hides to freak out fellow cachers that may follow behind me...

ARGHHH....me thinks I may have more sins than listed here....how am I going to sleep tonight?
