  1. New search format is CRAP! I spent several minutes trying to find a cache page with no success. Bring back the old format please or I too may be cancelling my premium membership! :-(
  2. Hello all... I have a geocoin (Ken's Coin) that I put out as a memorial for an elderly friend who enjoyed hearing my geostories, though he could rarely go out himself due to health reasons. The coin was picked up in September by DeWane1 on the Oregon coast. The problem is that, though he has two cache finds, he is a non-validated member, and his profile says he has "never" visited Geocaching. Since he is an non-validated member, his contact info is not published, so I can not get ahold of him to see why the coin has not been deposited in a new location. Any thoughts?? I find it strange that a person who has "never" visited (as it says on his profile) can have two finds and be recorded as taking my coin. Again, any help would be appreciated. Governor Worf
  3. I didn't even know that auto-visit was available. How is it done?? Also, is it possible to make it retro?? Thanx in advance for any help. GovernorWorf
  4. Your confusing Challenge Caches with 'Challenges'. About as different as 'Caribou' is from 'Wombat'. Actually I do know the difference. I'm saying that with the disappearing virtual caches, challenge caches such as "6 (or 7 or whatever) icons in a day" are becoming harder to complete. Adding a separate icon for challenge caches (currently done as "unknown" caches) would be a good replacement for the virtuals. I actually found the concept of the challenges to be less than appealing, as they did not add to your total cache totals, only to a separate category total.
  5. Personally, here's what I'd like to see done about challenges: Groundspeak could make challenge caches (100 caches in a day, etc) a new icon for the type, maybe using the now defunct challenge icon. This would separate challenge caches from unknown (puzzle) caches. Since virtual caches are on their way out (unfortunately, since I REALLY enjoy those and they really provide a point of education to this hobby), this would provide a replacement for X-icons in a day type challenge caches.
  6. Thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU for the return to Google Maps. It's amazing how much better they are than that other stuff we had pushed on us. The maps zoom into much greater detail, with much better clarity. Also...they actually LOAD (without waiting for several minutes). Thanx again!!!
  7. There is no extra charge for Google Maps. They're provided at no additional charge to premium members. Yes, I know that. I was referring to back when Google Maps were first dropped and everyone had their panties in a bunch. Now, I'm saying I wouldn't be willing to pay extra for Google Maps as the MapQuest maps have been just fine for my purposes. Unfortunately, the MapQuest maps are still slow and not nearly as clear for me. I, for one, am looking forward to the return of Google Maps.
  8. Yeah, this stopped working for me a while back as well. No explanation given, even when I tried contacting GS.
  9. It certainly is not an upgrade, by any means. This update does, however, equal yet another downgrade. Membership due up soon, and with no google maps, don't think I'll be renewing.
  10. I agree completely...the new maps are such a step backwards that I am seriously considering dropping my premium membership when it comes up in July. The souvenir icon is small potatoes by comparison, imho.
  11. I don't log a DNF until after at least a couple searches for the cache. If I log a DNF and later find it, I remove the DNF log. This way, I can easily check to see if I have a DNF that need to take another crack at in the future.
  12. Groundspeak...this issue needs to be addressed NOW!! The "upgrade" is a giant leap backwards. If this were a school project, it wouldn't even warrant a grade--just an incomplete assignment. There are so many negative comments concerning problem that you NEED to respond. I know that I, for one, am reconsidering renewing my premium membership when it comes up if this problem is not corrected. Not a threat--just a fact.
  13. Poor, poor, poor! The new maps are slow beyond belief...I actually gave up waiting for the topo map to load after 5 minutes of waiting. The aerial views are fuzzy to the point of being pretty much useless, and the new street maps are lacking detail...most notably street names. I would rather pay an increased membership fee than put up with this. When my membership comes up for renewal, I will seriously be reconsidering paying for this quality.
  14. My favorite find was one that required you to have a jug of water to recover the cache. Pour water in the PVC pipe attached to a post and get the cache when it burbles to the top. By the time you have removed, signed, and replaced the log in the cache, the water has drained out a small hole at the bottom of the pipe. You drop the cache in and it drops to the bottom for the next cacher. Very cool!
