  1. Oh boy! Nurse Nanna thanks for the chance!
  2. 73,356 Great idea, I might have to do this for my car sometime too.
  3. I see chigger bites as a camp nurse every summer. We use liquid bandaid on the affected area. Apply about 2-3 thin layers over the area and then reapply as needed til the itching stops, usually only 1-3 days. Liquid bandaid is similar to nailpolish, but it also has an antiseptic in it. And it is amazing how well it stops the itching. I spoke to the ER about it and they told me that they use the same treatment many times. Benadry may help too, but the local irritation still acts up. Try this next time and see if it works for you. If you want to keep the liquid bandaid clean for the next user, just keep some Q tips handy and use them to avoid redipping/contaminating. Great stuff and I have seen it help with skeeter bites too. Good luck! nurse nanna
  4. This is reminiscent of a cache that LadyBee4T and I did some time ago here in SE Michigan. It was a multi and we had been out some time just enjoying the hike in this wooded urban park. Very relaxed and not expecting anything out of the ordinary. We found the final in a hollow tree about 8 inches in diameter and the hole was about 4 feet off the ground. LB4T reached in to grab the container when she let out a yelp. She felt something sharp on the tip of her finger. We both bent down and peered into the hollow....and saw an enormous wooly spider. Now keep in mind, this is not desert, this is not Florida, this is Michgan. We have never seen anything like this monster. He stared at us as we backed away in sheer fright. Then panic set in as we realized that the bite might actually be serious. My first thought was that I was not sure I could carry her all the way back to the car to get her to the hospital before she died...which I was immediately convinced would happen! My poor partner in crime was having similar thoughts as she stood there in shock with a stinging finger. As we stood there amazed at the turn of events in our otherwise normal peaceful day, it became clear to us that it was not actually a bite, but a sliver that had caused the sting....the spider was just incidental! Then the fun began!!! Being the consumate cachers that we are, we could not just walk away, we had to get the cache away from that monster and sign the log..... So while the rest of the world came to those woods that day to relax, we came to argue about whose job it was to reach into that hollow and get that cache out of the hands/legs of that vicious spider. I admit it...I was just too doggone scared! That thing was nearly 2 inches of wool with claws that I was sure were going to remove whatever appendage I reached with. So my brave and fearless friend took it on....and she reached in for the cache while we held our breath in anticipation of the next crisis....and she grabbed that cache from its spot and she LAUNCHED it! We stood there once again in shock as it flew over our heads and about 8 feet past us through the air! No spider came out that we could see, and no claws held on to it as it flew. We logged that baby, tossed it a good distance back into the hole and got our hind ends out of there. Home and googling proved it to be a rather large wooly spider, but to this day I have never seen another....nor do I ever hope to. Folks who know us, say that this is just a typical day of caching with the two of us. I would have to agree. We have earned the reputation of finding trouble and laughs in a lot of places. And I wouldn't trade it for anything!
  5. Was home today with a very sick teen, so I had extra time to pray. Still lifting you up in prayers as is my church through our prayer chain. Please take the advice given and take time to rest and relax as much as you can as you need to care for yourself and the family while he is being taken care of by the medical folks. It's a hard time of year to go through this, but know that there is a higher purpose in all this and you are being lifted up in heaven at this very moment. God bless you, anne
  6. I am really sorry to hear this sad news. I came home today and found my new ultimate coin in a package from them sitting on the table. I have never met either of them, but it warmed my heart to see a coin dedicated to a part of my life that is so important to me and my family. It's funny how I feel so connected to someone that I only know through the manufacture of this coin. Then to find this thread just a few hours later is quite a shock. As a faithful person, and a nurse I have seen firsthand the power and the answers to prayer. I will lift both of them in prayer tonight and will also put them on our church prayer chain. God is the ultimate physician and will guide the staff caring for him. Please keep us updated as you are able and know that an awful lot of us care very deeply. love, anne
  7. Congratulations Anthus! Thanks for the fun! nurse nanna
  8. It would take me a month of Sundays to type out all the thanks that I have to dole out... But here are a few that come to mind right away: LadyBee4T who had to make the tough decision not to take the road trip we had planned for today to Chicago. I didn't mind having the day off and got to stay home and play with my teen. And look out at the 18 inches of snow we have in the front of the house. He got to skip swim practice (coach is completely snowed in), so we had the giggles and sillies all day.... a rare opportunity anymore. And also to LB4T for the fun, the laughs, the serious talks and the many escapades. May they last for many more decades as we age and hike down the trails in slow motion with our walkers and hearing aids! And for the surprises of the coins I had wanted so bad, no one could have pulled off the surprises as well as you did! Rockin' Roddy! I hope that I don't have to tell you how special you are to me! I look forward to times together and wish you and yours the very merriest of Christmases! You are near and dear to my heart and family to me too! Now about those sneaky caches, we gotta talk! CCC and the mysterious folks who have sent me not one but 2 coins that I coveted. I have not gotten over the shock and the surprise of getting these. I am humbled that you would honor me with these and can't get over the kindness of folks who don't know me at all. As a newcomer to the geocoin forums I was stunned by what happened and am planning to pay it forward as I have no way of knowing who in the world you are. May you be blessed with many joyful moments this wonderful season. Thank you. Moscow32, who gave me help when I needed it not once, but at least 4 or 5 times in just a matter of days. I had gotten completely stuck on some caches with missing stages and was desperate. His patience and help on the phone kept me going and helped me to finish. And for the fun we have had and will continue to have in times to come! These are all wonderful people and I am so very grateful for them and for so many that I could not name here. Thank you, and for the opportunity to thank them, I thank you too! nurse nanna
  9. I cached and shopped til I dropped today and am so tired I can't see the words I am typing, but I can't go to bed til I say this.... Some time ago I added a note to this thread that there were 2 coins I really liked. One was the CCC, and to my complete and utter surprise I now have one. I have already told that story. That was a shock to me, I did not expect it at all and I am still in awe of it. The family is getting a bit tired of me showing it to them and asking if I had told them the story yet....(insert rolling eyes here) The other coin I mentioned was one that mentioned pain. I saw this one at some point a very long time ago. I had no idea where I had seen it, nor did I know whose it was. I remember sending inquiries to a coin maker and asking about it, but was told it was a personal coin and that I would most likely never find one. So I put the thought aside and let it go til I posted that in my list of 2 on this thread. I work with patients in pain for a living though and I never really forgot about this coin. I just dismissed it as a pipe dream. I got a response in the thread with a suggestion of whose coin is was, though with the craziness of the fall and the amount of extra hours I have been working lately I have not had the time to put into reallly exploring it. And again, I really did not think that I would ever find it anyway, so why set myself up to be dissappointed, right? Then today. As I finally got a day off with roads deemed passable, LadyBee4T and I met to continue working on a tough cache we have been rather "obsessed" with. Therapy for the mind and body is another way of looking at it. As we drove there we were chatting up a storm and catching up since it's been a zoo for both of us lately and we had not really had any good friend yakking and caring time. And of course, plotting our strategy on this elusive cache. And with that distraction in mind, out of the blue she tossed something at me and asked me to explain it. I opened a small piece of paper and there inside it was a note, asking her to please see that I received it. Enclosed....you guessed it.... The coin I so desired. A large big black question mark with a smilie face on it...and the name Skin Guy. The other side is the statement..."When you find the cache, the pain is gone!" I can't believe it! When I posted here I had not the slightest idea that this was going to happen. I thought it was just a way to share the disappointments of not having the ones we really like. Sort of like sharing the sadness one might feel if they don't get what they want for their birthday, or a forgotten anniversary. Little did I know. So whomever you are, and at this time I do not know....Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am more blessed than I deserve and more humbled than I can say. And shocked to say the least. I know that many people do kind things and many of us benefit, but this was totally unexpected and I sincerely hope that you get back a hundred fold the blessings you paid out to me and to others. I only hope that someday I can find a way to pay it forward (or backward for that matter) Thank you, anne
  10. I bought the first one last year and have really liked it a lot. Ordered this years now too. VEry nicely done. And I love the message too. thanks, anne
  11. Well I never in my wildest imagination dreamed that this could happen, but my desire for a CCC coin has been fulfilled. When LadyBee4T mentioned this thread I decided to post just cuz. It did not occur to me that it would be a dream come true, so I posted and put the thought aside. After a stressful week the two of us went out to cache for the afternoon. We got cold and stopped for lunch and while munching merrily away on my sandwich she set an envelope on the table with my name on it. Having set aside the hope for one of these neat coins I had no idea what the envelope contained, but sure enough it was a Creepy Crawler Cacher coin just for me. I did indeed scream inside the restaurant and I did indeed get very embarrassed. So don't know who set this up, or how it came to pass, but I thank whomever it is! You made a rough week much better and brought a huge smile and a lot of laughs to me...and LadyBee4T who was as surprised as I was when I yelled out! I hope that all of you are able to have such surprises with your hearts desires too. Thank you and Merry Christmas! nurse nanna
  12. Thanks for the fun tsun! And congrats to Icydove for the win too! Snow is ok, but ice? Yuch! anne
  13. Yo ho! Post number 5! Moscow32, I owe you something......and picked it up today! I know you said to pay it forward, but I went backwards too! Gotta go snuggle under the covers now! This has been fun, anne
  14. Hi there SEW daugh! This is kind of a conversation in slow motion isn't it? You are absolutely right, it is cold here! LadyBee4T and I had to call it quits on a cache hunt today. We could not feel our fingers or toes for quite awhile. Gonna have to get out the hand and toe warmers from here on! Oh by the way, this is post number 4! And the nomination goes out to....
  15. Numero 3! Now just what were we talking about? So I nominate whoever is below me here...where the heck are the down arrow buttons?
  16. Post number 2. Well, you said to spread them out, so I did....by about 4 hours! Hi back to you Rocking Roddy! Turn your head away from the wings for a moment and wave hi! Weeeeeee, this is fun! anne
  17. Well now I am so stunned that I don't know what to say. This is probably the first coin I have ever really wanted. I saw LadyBee4T's CCC coin at her house and spent an inordinate amount of time playing with it in the light, cupping my hands to see it light up.... and then repeated the sequence over and over. All the while she is trying to talk about a tough cache we had been working on together. She finally got it away from me so I could concentrate. Since that day I have been checking in occasionally in the coin forums just for fun and to help de-stress after long days at work and home. I watched Rocking Rod get one earlier in the week and I was thrilled for him. When his coins were stolen recently it was really a sad day for him, so I was pleased as punch that he got one, though at the same time just a bit jealous I will admit. After 3 horrifically stressful and difficult days at work I really needed to just get out and loosen up a bit. LadyBee4T and I met to make another attempt at a long hard cache we have been doing. We drove a long way, and got another stage, but it was just too cold to continue. We broke for lunch and when we realized we still couldn't feel our fingers after 20 minutes we knew that we were going to have to call it a day and try with more layers next week. Just as I was feeling the disappointment of not finishing this cache, she set an envelope on the table with my name on it.... When I noticed it between flaming bites of my spicy chicken salad (I ate Beverly's hot peppers) , I opened it wondering just what she was up to..... I sure hope the fellas sitting in Wendy's get over their terror at hearing me scream when I saw what was in there. I didn't mean to frighten them...nor the staff either. There was a typed sheet of paper that said a little birdie had told the CCC that I was smitten with this coin. Yup, that would be true! LB4T says it was mailed anonymously to her with the request to get it to me. Had we finished today she would have snuck it into the cache, but since we were not going to complete our mission, she chose to complete her mission anyway. I am still stunned. I admit it, I cried on the way home. It's been a pretty doggone hard week and this was a real piece of pleasure blended in to that, making what I went through the last few days more sweet. Thank you so much. What a kind and considerate thing for you to do. I am a bit (well ok, more than a bit) of a practical joker and silliness person, so this coin just speaks that to me and I have liked it from the minute I saw it. It will not leave my ownership. Nor will this kindness leave my memory. In gratitude, Nurse Nanna
  18. What a relief! A contest where I don't have to be skilled at anything special except reading instructions! (though I am the first to admit that I fail at that a fair amount!) Thanks! anne
  19. Rod, when I figured out the little mappie thing of where the CCC coins are, I noticed that there had only been a handful here in Michigan. At that point I thought that if someone else in Michigan got one, then I hoped that it would be you! I like these coins a lot, but you deserve one! Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Thanks for sending him one CCC! anne
  20. I think you are right. I saw it a long time ago and loved it, but have not seen it since and can't locate my notes about it. Anyone know how I could find a picture of it? That's a shame about losing someone at 44. So young. I'm sorry to hear about this. Thanks for the info. anne
  21. Congratulations! I am spending tomorrow with my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter to make Christmas cookies, so I know well the joy of a new baby. We have another on the way in April. It is such an indescribable blessing. May you have many many years of joy, fun and love! love, anne
