  1. The "hills are alive" in the Azusa area with caches. There's a real nice gated paved road, for hiking or biking, along the west fork of the San Gabriel River. There are 3 caches along there, one being Cache and Release Rainbow. Nice walk, although RT is about 12 miles. One of the most noteable caches in the area is Chamber of Secrets, which is phenomenal. However, this cache is best done with a group of people... they don't have to be geocachers, just strong willed adventurers. For LA area... search around the Burbank zip code... there's some in some nice parks and one at Forest Lawn which is a fun virtual by Dru Morgan. That search should also pick up those in the Griffith Park area. Welcome to LA, and cache on!

  2. Just wanted to thank all of the great folks who helped me out on my recent Tour de London. I started with a query to these boards several weeks ago and got some sage advice from the likes of Chris & Maria and Ozguff. Undoubtedly, the best advice was to get that TravelCard! Boy, did THAT come in handy. My Tour stats include:

2.5 days of caching.... totalling 24 hours - Im not near as brave as Ozguff... I cache during daylight hours only

    58 caches

+35 miles of walking (it's all that doubling back through the big parks cuz of cache sites being ~busy~ at first.... second attempt B) )

    Some big nasty blisters

Although several of perthos' urban micros were MIA during my Tour, gotta thank him (her?) for placing SOOOO many, as well as thank those folks who are currently maintaining them. Daoloth was especially helpful with a bit of navigation advice and confirmation of coords for his final Calamity, Cataclysm, and Catastrophe cache. This was the only series I successfully finished. I was terribly disappointed that I missed both the Sherlock and Rainbow series by 1 cache each. Even after a hint from Chris n Maria... I couldn't zoom in on the required info for Sherlock #3.... aaaaaaaarrrrgghhh B)

What a great way to see the city. Thanx everyone!

  3. I'll be in London for 2 full days in early May for the sole purpose of caching. Would love and appreciate some recommendations for some London powercaching. A while back, I read about a park area in the suburbs (?) of London, accessible by train in which there were a handful of caches. I can't remember the name of that park, now... nor how to get there. Any help would be much appreciated. Also.... might be kinda fun to meet a local cacher at a pub, if anyone's interested.

    Im from Long Beach, California.

  4. Im going to Latvia in April and since I won't be able to get any of the caches there, I thought I'd spend a day in one of the nordic airport cities. Im just not sure which one is most cache-dense. Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oslo??? I'll probably have one full day and parts of the arrival and departure days. Any thoughts are much appreciated. I have to make my plane reservations very soon. Thanx.

  5. Im going to NYC 2/12 for a few days and in addition to doing caches in the city, would like to do some outside the city. Transportation would be by train. Anyone know of a suburban area with several caches within walking distance of train stop? Will go to NJ or Conneticut too. Thanx.

  6. Well, I almost cried...until I realized I could still see the compass and everything I needed to "Go To" a cache. Logging some locationless I had marked was a bit tricky, but was able to do it. Bought it at REI about 18 months ago. Guess I'll call Garming CS Monday; but I just can't go without it. I think I have a problem requiring a 12-step program! I think I'll ask for a nice belt case for Christmas too!

  7. My etrex summit fell on the pavement today and the LCD display broke. Glass is intact. But the area at the bottom of the display, where you read max elevation, etc... is gone - just blank. Does anyone know if this is something that can be fixed, and is it worth it... or should I just give myself an early Christmas present?

  8. OK, so Im showing my ignorance with this post. I changed my etrex datum to NAD 83 to match the datum listed on a couple benchmarks I went after. But, I don't understand the units because they're not the same as with long/lat coordinates. My units are set for HDDD mm mmm - but the NAD 83 units on the benchmark pages look somthing like: W118 7.07 - that's not enough numbers. I know it must be a conversion thing, but I don't know how to enter these numbers or what units to use. I know it's a simple thing and would appreciate being enlightened - a learning opportunity for me! Thanx
