  1. ha...yeah, that's just plain creepy for the first time....when someone else reads it out. hey, stop by for a cocktail or a soda...(soda..who says "soda"..I just love that!)
  2. http://us.f1f.yahoofs.com/bc/7c965b84/bc/M...fBcAACBaB1qL8U_ edit: I'm too stupid to glue the dumb thing in here.
  3. a year ago...before I became interested in this..I stumbled across something in the woods...it was near my place...and area where I would cut through when taking a a little nature walk...and I grew up in the area so I knew pretty much what all was out there...until one day I found a deep freeze...WITH a padlock on it. I could pry the lid up about .5mm and "PHEW!" SOMETHING was dead and rotting in it. I went home and got to thinking...mebbe it's a body? And after a few cocktails (these stories always go this way) went to a friend's to see if he wanted to do the STAND BY ME thing and see if someone missing was in this thing. See, the padlock was on a latch that ws held on by phillips head screws (duh, not very secure). Turns out everone I knew was chicken...so I had adjacent property management call the police. Next day: police, fire, and THE EPA where on the scene...nearby road blocked and funky trucks with flashing yellow lights. That's kinda exciting, no? Well, it was until they opened the container and found...ROTTEN CHICKEN. all they did was duct tape the lid until they contacted the property owner(?) to have it hauled off. So much for a good story...although, after reading some of these...maybe that IS a good story, only being chickens and not peoples...
  4. I got mine at Dillard's, of all places...BUT I saw them in blisterpacks at Office Max a while back. Still, if you go here: spacepenwww.spacepen.com check out the MANY different colors of refills...fine medium and bold, too...
  5. thanks for the info...I went and did just that. El M
  6. yuh...I could imagine stumbling into someone's....crop, too!
  7. no, but what an interesting cache container...
  8. yeah, THAT'S what I am talking about. It would drive me NUTS not to know what it was!!
  9. haha...yes, I must agree with all that. AND I know that when many blowhard texans go to colorado, they make us all look like imbeciles...(did I spell that right? lol) I don't get offended at the notion...When I was in california...from san fran to san diego I actually had to TELL people I was from texas...the reactions were quite humorous. oh, a side note...we really ARE just like king of the hill.
  10. Can anyone recommend a short list of fairly easy caches in the Austin and San Antonio area...or along I-35 fom Dallas? I am going to Austin to be in a commercial (everyone, eat your monster burritos!) So I will not have too much free time...but certainly don't want to pass up the chance to get outside my area. I'm really a Noob...and use the ill-reputed Explorist 200...so I can't hook it up to the computer and I haven't looked into GSAK or other programs like that...just go by a printed list and hand enter the coords. Any good caches will be greatly appreciated! =)
  11. ungh. I guess if ANYONE stumbles across something...it's going to be one of us!
  12. After a few cocktails saturday night I began to wonder: Seeing as we hide things where most people will never find them...has anyone ever stumbled across a "hide" more sinister in nature? Here, in Dallas, we watched the news for updates on a man who was kidnapped and murdered...and one of the suspects took police to a remote area...trees and tall grass and trash...and I thought...WOW, I wonder if there were any caches hidden in that area!?!? So, has anyone stumbled across anything they WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO FIND?
  13. everyone glad I brought this up? lol
  14. only sleep I am gonna lose is because it's nasty out and I am REALLY wanting to go find some caches!
  15. again, many thanks...I am learning! lol I wanna run home and share what I learned today with my parents like a kid his first day at school.
  16. ...and how the %#@% do I get the degree symbol on my crappy PC keyboard?!?! GOSH I'M PATHETIC..GOSH! (thanks Napolean)
  17. ...I won't take anything wrong...I appreciate the help AND the good humored ribbing.
  18. okay...lol...thanks! I am sayin it right then. ha...thanks for the no silly questions...I kinda need the reassurance...especially after I realized I opened and am using the Explorist 200 rather than returning it. HA!
  19. my poor little 200 has his feelings hurt! I too weighed the pros and cons of trading this Xmas gift...but decided to keep it. My mother bought it for me at Costco, so it was a bit less than from, say, REI...and at $130 I decided it would make a nice starter. I have only entered one coord in wrong, but it became apparant WAY before I got too off track, so I moved on. Entering the digits is pretty easy and quick ( I know, it's not 500 in a millisecond) with the toggle, and so far the pre loaded maps have been right on. AND the thing has been really durable, and surprised me in the car on rainy days leading me within feet of the find. I have been told for that last couple years that Garmin (is it G-armin, like "Gregory", or g-armin, like "geo"? remember, I am really new to this...) is far more USER friendly and easy to operate. Well, if this little yellow toy is supposed to be difficult, when I DO upgrade to the garmin I want I should be a pro at it. I decided to open the blister pack a month ago and take 'er for a spin when I concluded that when I take friends nieces out geocaching, they will have a GPSr that they can use...one that I won't mind getting dunked in a pond or dropped on the sidewalk. Just a thought or two.
  20. ok, I feel really silly asking this...being a grown up and all...but when you read, say, 32 (degrees) 58.086N, 096 (degrees)51.087W, how do I SAY it? Is this the most moronic question ever? When someone says "read me the coordinates I really don't wanna get the raised eyebrow "you doofus" look! also, why do we omit the "-"(negative)? And the goocher of all retarded questions...how do you ppronounce LONGITUDE??? I have heard "lon-nitude", "lon", "long", "lonGitude" (G as in "Git!"), "longitude" (g as in "geo")... I am sure some of this is listed elsewhere, but for some reason i'ts not letting me search the forums. Thanks much for helping ou this bumbling fool. ~Steanson steanson@yahoo.com
  21. Thanks Cherokee.... I thought about that after I left the office and did not get a chance to answer...or even check this...until today.
  22. This is my first post in Groundspeak, so please forgive any newbie mistakes. Here is a link to an article my mother showed me this morning when I stopped by her house. (She's the one that bought me my GPSr for Xmas) She seems to be getting rather excited...even FOUND a cache when I told her about it's general area (a little cemetary in a neighborhood). Anyway, sorry if this was posted elsewhere...and maybe if it belongs somewhere else someone can FW it for me. Thanks in advance, El Mysterioso "Trekkers putting hobby on the map"
