  1. I know this sort of thing has happened to cachers before but I don't regularly read these forums. Just thought I'd share my little geocaching adventure for the weekend. Went caching with a couple friends on Saturday; one of them was driving and navigating (it was his neighborhood) so I didn't really know where we were. We went out to some business complex. There was a security guard cruising around the parking lot so we waiting for him to go away before moving in. Right by the tree the cache was in we found a busted-up safe and cash drawer with various things scattered about like a receipt book, gift cards, and what seemed to be some kind of disk drive. My friends poked about with it but I was the only one who wanted to do something about it so I looked up the address on the receipt book and found out it belonged to a local massage place. I found their number and called them and yes they had had a break in recently. I reluctantly left my cel number with them but said I couldn't stay on the scene to wait for a cop because I wasn't driving and my friends wanted to leave. I didn't even know were we were but I got one of the guys to check his gps for where we were and I gave the massage place an address. I didn't know if the cops could find the place on their own and sure enough, a cop called me about 10 minutes later while we were hunting for another cache. All I could do was tell him I really didn't have any more info for him, and that someone who knew the area should have been the one to call but I was the only one willing to do it. I had to explain geocaching for him and give him the website address because he wanted to know why we were poking around by the trees. I had to give him my address and everything which I didn't like doing but I guess he needed to fill out paperwork. I had a sneaking suspicion the media would want to talk to me if they heard about this - I'm not even quite sure why but I just had this feeling. Sure enough, while I was making dinner tonight (Sunday) the phone rang again. It was someone from the Sheriff's office, she told me FOX News wanted to talk to me. I said no without asking for details. I don't know exactly what they wanted, they might be doing a piece on that break-in and wanted someone to talk about how they found the stuff. Of course, if that security guard we saw had been paying attention, HE would have found it.
  2. I have never gotten one. Not even from my geocaching friend who wrote it down once when she was visiting and said she'd enter it onto the site later.
  3. Well...there you go. That's what I was wondering. When I bought the decal I didn't think it would have a number, I just wanted a geocaching sticker on my car - just to tell the world I'm a geocacher, you know? But I did wind up leaving the number on and not using the tag. I wouldn't expect someone to try and log me while I'm moving though, lol.
  4. Right, I blotted out the number in the photo I took of the tag when I was going to use that.
  5. Great. Well, now I gotta design one. I have no idea what to put on it. If I put a website I can't like, put my own, right? Because that would be advertising. So if I make them trackable I can use sigitem.com, right?
  6. Yeah I deleted the photo, and I did put the decal on my car. Should I put up a photo of my car now, is that how it works?
  7. YES!! I was afraid it may be a bad idea, considering that if a patch did get wet it could mold or at least develop a nasty stain.
  8. I'm in the machine embroidery business...Do you think that like, a small round patch with a custom design by me in a coin holder (or at least a baggie) would make a good sig item? It'd be neat to have something that's directly linked to my livelihood.
  9. Oh so just deselecting the image "removes" it, although it stays in the system. Okay I'll try to decide what to do. Thanks.
  10. I'm pretty sure the bugs alone are cheaper than the decal sets...I'm thinking it would be dumb to not use the decal as its intended. The only problem is that I've already posted a photo of the bug on the info page. Can that be removed? I don't see a way to do it myself so do you think I can request it be deleted or something? Thanks. edit: You know what...never mind. I'm confused enough about TBs. I'll just cut the number off and if I understand them better later I'll buy a new decal.
  11. I bought one of these decal and tag sets today not realising there was even a number on the decal - I thought the decals were just to show people you were a geocacher. I've already attached the tag to an item and logged it with a photo. Should I edit the tag info (and try to get an admin to remove the photo - is that even possible?) or just cut the number off the decal and use it as a simple decoration? I don't want to confuse people who see the decal and expect to see a number under it. :/
  12. These two posts are SO helpful to me, thanks!! I had no idea there was any way around the nuvi's short battery life. I may have to make my own battery pack, I love doing stuff like that, and I haven't used the soldering iron in too long...
  13. Answer #5 telling something new: Premium Membership is the way to go. You get a free 30 trial with every new bought (better newly registered) garmin unit here. Don't waste this free month! GermanSailor I didn't know about this. Thanks, I can use it.
