  1. Ummmm....How many geocachers actually know what an eticket ride is? While I know, they stopped calling them that before I moved here when I was a kid Hey . . . are you trying to call us old? Why I atta . . . oh, wait . . . that's Harmon's line I guess the young'uns can Google it.
  2. Thanks. I laughed so hard my stomach hurts. But, we should probably stop polluting this thread now. Sorry for starting this.
  3. Make sure you've clicked "edit listing" and are on the cache page. The block is the first one you'll see. It is located between "Who Place The Cache" and "Date Placed"
  4. It is a bit hard to make him/her out. In the future, you should try to get closer. I find that between 2 and 3 feet is the perfect distance. You want to focus on his eyes! Be sure to hold the camera very still, (i.e., try not to shake) or the picture may blur. Good advice Anything is possible with Photoshop. Or even Adobe Bridge Loupe. Wow! And you got him to coil up too. In the original picture, he was stretched out. Amazing!
  5. Sounds like a new GPS would be a lot cheaper than a new windshield. Hey, any excuse to get an upgraded GPS
  6. On checking, I just noticed that our cache that was published in SD yesterday, was done by him/her. Must be an alien invasion. Maybe the Red October can shoot down the Vorlon mothership, if they have those
  7. I noticed that too. After Babylon 5 was cancelled, the acting jobs must not have come through so he had to become a volunteer cache reviewer. I don't know why, he's a good looking guy... Or is it a woman? This really frosts my crank, 'cause I'm just a captain and they bring this Ambassador in right over my head. Would it have been so hard to promote me first?!? I wouldn't worry about it. In every episode of Babylon Park, Kosh dies in some unpleasant way. By G'Kwan! They've Killed Koshi! Hmmm . . . reminds me of a certain puzzle that is now gone, but which RJB hated the container.

  9. That's about the goofiest picture of me I have ever seen! I look like a dork! But maybe that's because I am a dork?!? Your to sexy for those shorts! Too bad he didn't notice that poison oak next to his legs there... (Actually, there is no poison oak in the shot, but there are massive forests of the stuff within twenty feet. I was wearing long pants and very glad off it. You're a braver man than I am, Tom!) Say . . . isn't that a Poodle Dog Bush he's standing next to?
  10. I couldn't help but notice that everyone he passed on the trail, and presumeably he, was young. The mantra playing in my head for t he video was, "There are old climbers, and there are bold climbers, but there are no old, bold climbers."
  11. Nope. She's put it on other logs where she was not the second finder. I think she is saying she is a member of the Shaun Cassidy Fan Club.
  12. I'd suggest that you keep an eye on them if you are charging at 200 mA setting. Even a really good charger, charging at below 10% of the total capacity/hr can fail to pick up the Delta V charge termination signal, resulting in overcharging. I'd suggest you use 300 or 500 mA. Of course, my opinion and $3 will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks. By the way, I typically charge mine at 1,000 mA and get full capacity. My LaCrosse charger monitors heat and will stop charging if they become too hot, and resume when it is safe. The decrease in the life of the batteries is so small that it won't be noticeable (usual disclaimer, from people who make batteries, yada, yada, yada).
  13. I'd advise extreme caution! Here is a printout from the appropriate FM (Field Manual) that the Marines use.Vortex Bomb - When detonated it opens up a small vortex that sucks in surrouding objects. This bomb can be detonated at anytime by pressing the vortex bomb button while it is falling.
  14. A side road mentioned earlier as a possible 4WD requirement leads off the main track to a dead-end where Geocache named "Jeepnakd's 1000th Find!!! Cache Box" is placed. It is about a quarter-mile to the hide and crosses a drainage dip that an SUV can handle easily. In truth a careful sedan driver should be able to handle it as well since the crossing should be dry by now. Sandy and I finished by heading into Hemet so no comment on the final part of your route that heads southward. Harmon is correct about that side road. It has ruts that we easily crossed without 4-wheel drive. The other sketchy spot is at the end of Rawson up towards Black Mountain. There is one side road that ends in sand, though as long as you don't go all the way to the end (where the cache is), it should not be a problem. There was another road that had a cache on it, but that was archived for invading into the preserve area--as it should have been. I doubt you'll have any problems.
  15. 14-2-57-19-33 . . . at least that's what the fortune cookie I had for lunch suggested.
  16. It's not just you. I also feel it is inappropriate. Better to ask the owner.
  17. Is this 2wd friendly? - I'm thinking about not bringing the jeep. These gas prices and 12 mpg are killing me. Either way I'm in forthis cache run. Dave Yeppers! It is 2WD accessible. The Simpson Clan and Grnzoom did it in a Prius. I'm leaving the Jeep behind as well. Glad to have everyone! Robyn This sounds like fun! It's been nutty lately but I might finally be free next weekend! There are a couple of caches on side roads that might not be safe to get in a Prius (though you could walk to them). If you have an SUV or truck, even 2-wheel drive, you should be able to drive to them all. Call us if you get stuck and we can likely swing out there and pull you out
  18. Interesting how so many of us share a fascination with raptors. Coincidentally, there was a special on KPBS last night about the flight characteristics of various raptors, including Golden Eagles. They even attached a miniature camera to the back of several birds so that you could get to see from the birds point of view. Amazing watching a Peregrine Falcon in a 200 mph stoop, from one of these cameras! I'd recommend it (check local listings, yada, yada, yada)
  19. Hee-hee, I just knew that "dihedral" would cause a stir. For now I'm feeling like an eagle expert but waiting for Gecko Dad to lower the boom on me. Notice how I left an opening for Aquila chrysaetos ... and Southern Miss'. I'm like you on the camera, toting an SLR is a bit much for mountainous hikes. My compromise is to use a small digital camera but tweak the shots with Photoshop CS3. Hard to make up for lack of zoom-lens though. Only chance I've got to use an SLR on trail hikes is to trick Janie into carrying it for me. Any ideas on that problem? Try whining about how much your back hurts after you moved some furniture around. Sometimes, this works for me.
  20. If the bird was wearing heels, it may have been Rooster checking on our Monserate caches. If anyone is having trouble identifying birds, this Google book may be helpful, and it is free. Of course, you could also buy the book. It clearly details the same identifying characteristics that Harmon was talking about.
  21. Am I the only one who has thought how much fun it would be, once the Dulzura Conduit is back in action, to hop into it with an innertube at Ed's caches, and ride the conduit and flume all the way to Otay Lakes? That would be an E ticket ride!
  22. Thanks for the update Snake! I need to do those! Is anybody up for doing them that wakes up later on weekends? On my first visit there, NightHunter told us that the conduit was used by illegals. On my second visit there, with Chuy and a bunch of people, I think, we spooked an illegal who was using the conduit to sneak north. I hope they know how to swim, or they may end up in the San Diego water supply at Otay Donde esta el cacho? I'd rather go with a group. Hopefully there are some others that haven't done those yet... The bats will keep you company, TG And watch out for Ginger's landmine in Ghost Waters. It sounds like I need a volunteer to walk in front of me... I did these caches last Saturday with zatyko. We confirmed with Chuy that Walking the Plank is more than likely missing. The Subterranean and Ghost Waters caches were a blast! I highly recommend those! We did not see bats in Ghost waters but we spooked a bunch in the Subterranean Cache! Oh, be sure to bring an extra pair of shoes that you don't mind wasting. Thanks for the heads up on the shoes, T4. I'll be sure to bring another pair. I'm still looking for a volunteer to walk in front of me. Hmmm, maybe I can get the volunteers that Harmon uses to walk in front of him... Looking for escort-service are we? All of them well-trained by the way. Harmon, please note that there are no unbunched socks here! Your stint as the fashion police has had a positive effect on the caching community.
