I went on my first hunt today and was unsuccessful. I don't know if it was my stupidity, my GPS wasn't set up correctly or maybe my GPS is too old.
I have an Eagle Map Guide Pro made by Lowrance. I think I bought it about 10 years ago. I have never used it for hiking, just driving. At the time it was a pretty high end unit, I think I paid $400 for it. I bought upgraded software for it that is dated 1998.
My problem today was that I would walk in one direction and the distance meter would be steadily going down, I would usually get to around 40 ft., then all of a sudden it would tell me to go the other direction. I must have spent at least an hour going around in circles. Is this typical? At one point it even told me I was 1 foot away and as I was standing there, not moving, it all of a sudden told me I was 42 feet away.
Help!
