There are two caches in my area that have lots of dnf logs. I sent an e-mail to the CO and no reply.Not sure what my next step should be. One of the cache numbers is GC1JGME ,I would have to look up the other. Not sure if I should contact the reviewer in my area, and I am not sure who that is, or how to find out who he or she is..Any advise appreciated.

If they ban Mctoys here, I dont think I would hear any kids saying.. "What? No toy in my happy meal? awww maaan...guess I will just have a salad...daaaang"..Parents should be making that decision,not the kids,the toy,the gov. or McDonalds. If parents dont care what their kids eat, or why their kids eat something, the removal of the toy is not going to help very much. They will still get a "toyless" happy meal, and their parents will provide the "reward" to the whinning kid some other way. Nothing gained, Mctoys lost..

Most of the units made now are paperless at that price range.The Lowrance, Endura Safari and Endura Sierra both have turn by turn navigation "like a tomtom".Vey versitile units with lots of features and easy to use.
I dont know if other units are rechargable,but I just bought some Ni-Mh rechargables and they work great.
Feel free to ask more questions as there are lots of people on here with knowledge of other brands.Check out the GPS and technowlogy forum too.

Absolutely. There is a thriving collectors market, just Google "ebay happy meal" for an intro to the mega-bux world of restaurant toy trading.
Wow! How interesting! I had no idea. I knew about Starbucks gift cards, but had no idea about McDonald's toys.
I think it was McDonalds that years ago were giving away mini beany babies in happy meals.People went nuts trying to get them "a different one each month or so". My mom and sister were buying a dozen happy meals at a time to try and get the whole collection. People were trading and selling them for some big bucks. Now they are prolly worthless.
..I sure ate a lot of happy meals back then..And I was like 20 years old

I agree with the reward thing..Maybe McDs could only give the toy with a "healthy meal" not a "happy meal".Might be a good idea.
Parents who let their children have pull in what or where to eat are simply being weak. I use my obesity as a lesson to my daughters as to what unhealthy eating can do to them.And I use my obesity to remind myself that what my kids eat is my responsibility and that they are not smart enough yet to make that decision for themselves. I know I am being a hypocrite, but if it keeps them healthy, I can live with that. My kids have no pull.
I don't mean this sarcastically- where do you take your kids to eat when you only have about 30 minutes and you're on the road in a unfamilar area? I'm seriously looking for ideas here.
Subway is ok,turkey and chicken subs on whole wheat with veggies,not too bad.And they are about everywhere. Plus a lot of fast food burger joint now have healthier choices on there menu.We usually get a salad of some sort from Wendys.In 30 min I can hobble into a convienent store and buy a premade sub or salad in the same amout of time you can sit in a drive-thu..You just have to think outside the box..We are too trained in thinking fast food has to come from Mcds or burger King and be unhealthy.

I remember..They were great. You could actually see the burgers protruding from under the bun,and they were MUCH bigger. Now the burger is barely a quarter inch thick and much smaller than the bun.

I've had hamburgers from sources outside of McDonalds and they all taste the same.It's sad that there are kids growing up thinking that McDonalds is what a hamburger is supposed to taste like.And no more Mctoys as a way to help childrens health? Not sure I have ever seen a line of tricycles at the drive-thru.
The lawmakers are merely wanting to make teh rewards for eating a happy meal a little less direct for children. They are trying to take away the connection between eating something bad and being rewarded with a toy.
Will this make a long-term difference in those children's lives? Who knows, but it might be worthwhile to see.
(I should go on record at this point with the fact that I really like McDonald's cheeseburgers, fries, and (usually) McToys.)

Second, I don't believe that you are correct. An obese person may die thirty years sooner than a healthy person, but those years that he lived were likely to be much more draining on the system that the final years of a healthy person. As a bonus, the healthy person paid into the system for many more years before his health degraded to the point where he was a drain on the system.
I agree with you. I can't speak for every "obese" person, but when I weighed 500 pounds, I spent so much more money on my healthcare, and used up way more resources than I do now after losing over 250 pounds. Things like when I had to go to the hospital a few times; they needed more people than usual to carry me, I had to have a special bed, gown, stretcher, blood pressure cuff, special diet, etc etc.
Now this is a pretty extreme case, but I do think that obese people use up more resources, whether they would like to admit it or not.
I want to be clear though: We always have choice. I don't think that placing a ban on McToys is really going to solve anything. People will still eat fast food; it is their choice to do so, and that's okay with me.
I agree..I am 350 lbs."and going down"..I have major back problems "degenerative disc desease" and a spinal cord stimulator implant.But the added weight I carry causes me to have more pain and trouble than if I were thin.This costs more money,no doubt about it.But it is my fault,not McDonalds. We cooked just as bad at home as McDs.Now we cook right and eat right.The weight is comeing off..Amazing! With no help from the gov.I place the blame on my obesity where it belongs..me. The gov. can regulate all they want, but good eating habits have to start at home.Stop blaming fast food joints for making us fat.

I like reading that many of you use this issue as a teaching tool, "leave it better than you found it", "trade up", "be generous", "think of others after you". These are all "life lessons" that will benifit children well into adulthood. But these lessons need to be practiced and not just preached.Its really up to the parents to make sure that their kids are doing these things. I make sure I see what my kids removed from the cache, and I am the one who approves what goes back in.Once I told my daughter that she would have to leave three nice toys if she wanted the "cool" bubble blower thing. I now wonder if someone would then find the cache without the bubble thing and assume my kid only traded one thing for it.

Yes, it would be out of line since they weren't the ones who down-graded the contents over time.
I am a big proponent of trading up and I prefer to leave stuff for the kids. As far as I'm concerned adults can go out buy carp for themselves.
At least with an ammocan you can actually leave something.
I'm not so sure Carp would be good in a cache it might tend to stink it up a bit.

Some people like them others do not.I leave it up to the kids.I have been rather suprised at what my kids have traded for.I feel in many caches they traded something nice for junk "my opinion",but if it makes them happy,I am happy. I guess one kids junk is another kids treasure.The only thing that I dislike are broken toys. If you would'nt give it to your kids,dont leave it for mine.

I don't have a lot of money so I struggle sometimes to find the coolest dollar store items to put in my larger caches. Kids generally don't care if its a cheap toy or not. They play with it until it breaks and then go on to the next toy. One thing I've noticed myself is when I cache alone I don't plan on taking anything but a smiley from a new land. I don't bring swag with me and don't take anything away unless its trashed. I've found quite a few caches that were waterlogged with cloth and paper items just nasty and destroyed. I do bring along baggies, extra logs and such to help to maintain the cache but rarely bring extra swag. A lot of times when I find caches like this I leave with several items headed for the trash can but have nothing to give. In one cache I actually added a lock n lock to the ammo can because it had a bad seal. I feel I'm doing my part to help maintain a cache but now I think I should feel a bit guilty because I don't drop in a McGeoToy or something of that nature. I would like to create my own signature item to add, would that make it a little better even if it isn't a toy? Swiz
I dont think you should feel guilty.Trash is trash.If it looks like trash "or smells like trash" and you pitched it, I feel you did the cache a service.I have found some pretty nasty stuff in a few caches and felt it would have been wrong to not "CITO" it.
I am low on funds myself.I have an electrician friend that is saving me those "knock outs" from electrical panels.They are about the size of a half dollar,and they throw them away.I am going to try file the kinda sharp edges off them and use metal stamps and make coins out of them.Free! Maybe you can find something free to make some swag with,or use my idea.

I apologize if this is overly similar to some other thread.
I'd like people to make suggestions for things they think would be cool and inexpensive to put in geocaches. This will help people to place swag others will enjoy.
I've heard of COs putting out scratch-off lottery tickets for FTF. I think that sounds neat.
For an upcoming cache I have some inflatable origami paper balloons (see http://www.ehow.com/how_5576_make-origami-balloon.html for how to make them easily), stickers, "monster mirror clings" from Archie McPhee that you put at the right height on a mirror and it looks like you have antennas/bug eyes, etc., and a plastic puzzle ring that came with my Archie McPhee order. There were going to be some "amazing brain busters" from Archie McPhee but they turned out to be too wide for the final.
I think temporary tattoos are fun.
Cooks like me might enjoy finding recipes.
I've thought about placing small seed packets for gardeners (such as a couple basil seeds), but there may be issues about attracting wildlife there.
Of course, CITO bags, TBs, and geocoins are always great.
Would you enjoy finding a printed out and folded up puzzle in a cache? Like a logic puzzle/kakuro/sudoku/crossword?
As you can see, I like finding and hiding things that have some interactive function that will be enjoyable after the find is made, not an object that just sits there.
Cool ideas! I really like the recipe idea,could be a theme for a cache "take one,leave one" kinda thing.Call it "Whats for dinner?"
I also like the seed idea because i garden.Different herbs would be fun to grow and cook with.The cache would have to be a very dry one for them to last any amount of time.
Hand made stuff is great,worth more than face value because its more special.

I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. But at the time of his original post, the nanos at bus stops thread was just 3 lines down the front page. It did make it very suspicious.
So, I would suggest that in order to not be thought of as trolling, that new members might want to lurk a bit to see how things work. And it's always a good idea to use the search function before posting; especially if you are new to a board.
Last, but not least, you just might want to skim the first page or two and see if there is already an active thread about the topic before you open a new one just above the previous one. Otherwise, folks might think you are a sock puppet.
I agree..I did a lot of reading even before purchasing a membership,and plan on doing more caching before placing one.I think that some new folks just get a little overly exited about this unique game and want to get started before doing their homework.No real harm there,maybe just politely lead them in the right direction.I think that calling new people "trolls" is of no help and is definitely not a nice greeting.I have seen this done on several occasions and all it caused was grief ,and makes the person not feel welcome here, when they were just beginners jumping the gun a bit.I will welcome their questions with respect and give intelligent answers if I can,or point them in the right direction.That is helpful,but calling a new visiter or member a troll is just plain rude.Around the time of the first posts I made here I was called a "sock puppet".I didnt even know what that meant.Calling new people who visit this forum "troll" and "sock puppet" sounds a little like paranoia to me.

Thanks all for the technology overview and suggestions. Now I feel better equipped to do more research and make an informed decision. It's too bad that Delorme doesn't offer maps of Europe since I've been looking at the PN series, but I'm sure the other models will do the trick.
Lowrance is getting ready to launch the Endura series in Europe and they will have a very detailed preloaded basemap.
Will there be any base map updates for US models for those of us who travel abroad?

Before you get all bent out of shape,I logged it as "need maint." on this one..GCKNCY. Then I e-mailed the CO..Then I logged "needs archived..
Why the attitude? I didnt jump the gun and ask that one to be archived "GC1JGME"..It was just an example..And yes I looked for it..Its at my union hall..No I didnt log it,But I also didnt try and archive it..
It was just a simple question needing a simple answer officer.
