  1. In the past we have had lazy cachers that left a "." or TFTC as their message when logging. Now cache placers who have put in time and effort are getting cache logs with no message at all. This is an insult to cache owners. I feel a message, even short, should be required. 2. I know you can not make it a requirement for cachers to go online to research answers to your questions. What I did not know is that if they can go on line and somehow find the info you are asking for you can not use that question. If they can use Google earth to figure out an answer you can not use that question. If the reviewer does not know if the answer you give is right or not you can not use that question. I give up! Just archived my EarthCaches. Think I will go put out some skirt lifters. You can put out as many as you want, no questions asked. "Currently your logging tasks are: 1) Would you say the valley is U or V shaped? 2) Valleys are low spots between mountains or hills. How high above the river is this location? 3) Is this a broad or narrow valley? Again for number 1, I'm not sure your answer is correct. The answer to question 2 can be found by looking at images posted on Google Street Maps. There is a photo there that clearly shows the Deadman's Hill sign with the info needed to log this cache. Question 3 could be answered by viewing a topo map and would not require a site visit. A good logging task involves the visitor gathering data and then using this data to reach a conclusion related to the ‘theme’ or ‘lesson’ of the EarthCache. You would need to include a logging question which refers directly to the geology you have discussed. This question should connect what the cachers read with what they see at the site and should not be answerable from online sources. "
  3. Thanks for the site info. Now to set down and check them all out.
  4. I need maps for Spain,Italy, Turkey, Egypt, & Malta. Using an eXployer 600 and 60Cx. What are you using, where did you get it, and how well do you like? Did you pay a lot or was it free?
  5. If I have a PQ that does not get used all the time I dump it and set it back up when it is needed. If you have 35 PQs and 10 have not been used (you have not gone caching in that area) in a couple months then just drop them. Yes it hurts but it works!
  6. A few times. I replace a missing cache if I find parts of it. One time I logged an ammo box that had several DNFs on it the same miniute the CO archived it. Why all the DNFs I'll never know as I found it very easly, just whish I saw the archive before I got home so I could have picked up the cache. Was LTF twice on the same day on caches that were on my three day old list and had gotten archived.
  7. This is a good idea and one that I already tried. The results were mixed but hopeful. Two COs said that they might get their caches back up and one liked the idea of placeing a cache near the port. Turkey is the only country I may have trouble with, plenty of caches, just not where I will be able to get too. One CO there said I could set up a cache that they will take care of so that may be something to try. That would give other cachers something they can grab close by.
  8. I do not recall any of the bombers listed as having placed a bomb in a lamp post or a bush. Most of the caches that have been disposed of were not in a location that would make for a good target. They are not where they would cause any great damage or where a large group of people would gather. Most were also to small to do any great damage. There have been caches that were place in locations they had no right being put in and I belive that at least 70% of all caches are placed without any OK of any kind. LPC's 95%. Groundspeak needs to tighten up the rules before laws get passed. Also as the officer had the info he needed about the suspect (he new what car to stop) he should have waited to determin if there was a bomb. All he had was a report that had not been confirmed.
  9. That cache is one that I am watching but the last two logs are DNF, and one group had six people looking for it. I will find some caches in Athens but it would be nice to have something right near the port for other cachers.
  10. I will be in these locations in March and can not find any caches that are easy to get to in the port area, or even close by. Are there any cachers in these cities that could help fellow cachers out by placing a few nearby caches. Earthcaches would be great and do not require much work. I realy want to add these countries to my cached in list. Thanks for the help!
  11. I have had caches on my property for years. It states on the cache page that it is my property. I also put a cache lable on my mailbox post so the cachers know they have the right place. I have had no trouble with night cachers as the page states no night caching. Some come up to the door but most just head out. If I see someone is out I often will walk out with them or catch them on their way back to just say hi. I started with a multi then added a couple caches to give the chance for more finds. Now I just have regular caches out as cachers like to get more .
  12. I'm over in the Jackson area but haven't done a lot of caching over your way. Would like to get together for some caching. Maybe you could pick a date and get a group together to cache. It would not need to be an event, just a bunch of cachers. Have Fun Caching beenhere
  13. These work great for back up. I have both the regular and extended life battries and have been using them in my 600 since I bought it when it first came out. They will get you through a day of caching for most cachers. And they travel very well in your pack. I always have one along with me.
  14. Check for a local group you could do a joint clean up with. They may be willing to set up and run with you.
  15. Falling Water Trail CITO April 22, 9am at Lime Lake County Park, Spring Arbor, Michigan. This CITO is sponsored by the Jackson County Parks & Recreation Dept. and The Friends of the Falling Water Trail. (GCT7NN) The Friends group is leading the effort to establish a Rails to Trails Park that covers 10.3 miles along an old rail bed in the south western part of the county. They have requested that the geocaching community join with them for a clean up of the trailway before construction begains this spring. Even more important to them is for us to help map the trail and set up waypoint post to help response teams in case of emergancies. We hope to have a good turn out of geocachers as you know we will be using the trail. http://www.fitnesscouncil.org/fallingwater/index.htm
