  1. We just completed our 2nd Annual Maritime Geocaching Association Winter Cache Placement weekend here in the Maritime Provinces. It started last year as a challenge between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia to see who could put out the most caches in a certain amount of time. It was an effort to get more cachers out through the winter months. With great support from Cache Agent and Cache Tech, caches were placed and submitted ahead of time and then at an appointed time they were approved to the gc.com website. Everyone gathered around their computers bouncing between gc.com and the mga forums as the new caches were popping up. And then the race for FTF was on. This year the challenge went out again. We had about 3 weeks to place caches and there were to be no micros, and caches were to be winter friendly. On Feb. 3rd at the appointed time Cache Agent and Cache Tech started releasing the caches to the website. It took about 5 hours for CA and CT to release nearly 300 new caches and it was exciting to watch them pop up. Some of those with newer technology were on the road from the start logging ftfs. It was also fun to watch to see how quick they were being logged. Prior to the release weekend each province held events which were well attended. It was a win/win situation for everyone with many new puzzle caches, multis and well thought-out caches for everyone to find. I hope you there are some ideas here you can use in planning your event. It was a lot of fun but we couldn't have done it without our terrific approvers. It is alot to ask of our volunteers but they were very gracious in helping us out with the event.
