  1. Nice to see the clorox boy stepping in Who could forget The KING - kingriched, such fun from someone so young.
  2. I just picked up a couple of off brand under armor styles and they worked very well. The biggest thing that drove me nuts was how tight it was - "body contouring style", um not my cup of tea but it did the job. The boy and I managed to spend about 6 hours in 40 degree rain & cold before we packed it in last week.
  3. I had my first taste with event temp caches in late 2005 Seen plenty after that in NWPA
  4. Several folks have had their posting privileges removed - others have lost interest in posting others just like to watch. edited to add fun to nose through the names here
  5. sounds fun but..... may be safe & fun but not my cup of tea even if it was in my neck of the woods
  6. However, if you do something like this, please do NOT call it geocaching, or even imply that they might be geocaching. True, but you could use it to teach geography - what do those latitude and longitude numbers really mean? Why are they there and how do you use them to get somewhere. How does the GPS receiver work? Why is it that if I punch in all these little numbers into the GPS it takes me to a location where if I look I could find something? How is it that the GPS knows where I am at? I guess the point I was trying to make was the use of visual aids and incorporating the technical/computer aspect. You almost need a minor degree just to navigate the site.
  7. Access to google earth? Hide various clues around the school that when all put together would take them to a specific POI. Break up the kids into teams and each kid would be given a specific task. Make it like an old school scavenger hunt. Give them a starting point and tell them to go to the next location and look at something for their clue. Using google earth only - There are various shaped buildings that look like letters/numbers - you could provide them with the lat/lon for the specific location/building and let them go from there.
  8. To make a long story short - a local cache was "disrupted" by some EOD friends. Curious, I decided to look further. I had a GPS and my son was off school for a week so we decided to see what all the hype was over. I've always looked at geocaching as something to do while out wandering around, not a passion or anything like that. Personally I'd take a single cache (4-5 mile round trip) over anything else out there. I don't even need a wonderful view - just a hike in the woods. I guess my passion is that I like the woods (big trees), BIG rocks, creeks, steep hills, wildlife entertainment and blondes. My passion is the same, my determination has changed - it better be really good for me to come back for another visit, otherwise I just keep on going.
  9. Just curious before I start sending out a bunch of emails to minters. Anyone ever make a geocoin belt buckle? Could these be made so you could change out same sized coins? something like the picture
  10. quite an adventure. listed parking is very, very tight but getting there is easy enough. The carvings are on just about every rock in the place. Take plenty of pictures for us Pioneers Petroglyph is 1 of 3 on my "short" list. My to do list is a private bookmark
  11. About 12 hours. Thats amazing in my neck of the woods, it involved a 5 mile hike, I guess that's why I got it, plus it was published mid week and I was off
  12. I did this one - very cool and worth the visit.
  13. Seems fair enough to me. Although I'd like to provide an example for some insight I am/was a member of another site where members would enter codes from soda caps to earn points for prizes. Members were permitted to enter 10 codes per 24 hour period. There were many times where I had far more than 10 codes to enter but the system would not allow any further entries. Now I can tell you for sure I did not drink that many sodas but I sure had the code numbers - was I cheating by not drinking/buying the sodas but still entering the codes for a prize? I had a chance to earn a nice prize but I was one code short and I had already entered 10 codes for the day. I missed my chance for that sweet prize by one code. Was I mad, you bet but I got over it. I would not have a problem with limiting the number of logs per waypoint, there would be several problems such as editing logs, dropping bugs/coins that could count against you - I honestly think it would be far too much work to make it worthwhile as an effective tool.
  14. I've done a few multis and I do avoid them but if they look good enough I'll put some time into them. Some have mentioned already and I will add that a majority of the multis I've found involve micros with little rotten slips of paper or you have to drive all over for the waypoints. I have one multi and I basically gave dead spoilers for each stage, my reason is that I want the folks to follow a specific path to get to the final. Not many visits to my regular hides, all the heavy hitters found them and there are far too many park & grabs to keep the nobs attention occupied. Today the boy and I found a monster prime area that holds potential for a long multi circle hike - rocks, easy trails, hills, big trees, wildlife entertainment - just have to check a few other things before I am happy. We walked over 4 miles and did not put a dent in the place. I'd use a regular sized container for each stage with back up waypoints (stamped brass plates with a small chain attached to a stake pounded into the ground) for the next step.
  15. This may get you started It's a long shot but it's something to play with when the office is closed
  16. You know what really bothers me about all this mess is that I never really knew what PI looked like. Now I know I think back in the past to the stupid things I have done with the vines and other lovely plants really scare me. I've always nosed around in the weeds and never had any problems, still don't. Now look before I jump. I had a small rash/blisters on my wrist a few years ago (after some heavy yard work) that would not heal, I could not figure out why - then someone turned on a light and - wow. (it was the chainsaws fault, not mine)
  17. Yea verily I say unto thee, bring forth your treats of sugary sweetness and tasty goodness. Yea, oh sinner of the great pumpkin, come fourth and confesses your sugary sins. Is this a costume? It is in my book, it’s all about having some fun and I can tell you one thing for sure nobody else was wearing a suit & tie out begging for candy I had to break out the marring, burying and court suit for some good old fashioned street sermons.
  18. I like leather gloves, just be careful with the dye. If you sweat your hands may turn yellow - kind of hard to explain the funny stained hands when you go to shake someones hand and they pause.....
  19. I've been working on a related waymark for Speed Traps - only need one or two more members to get it up and running. Don't let it get as far as a ticket, know where the nasty traps are located and keep the waymarks loaded into your GPS and set the distance warning to 1/4 mile before you hit the trap and get pinched.
  20. benchmarks (better hints & they don't move) hunting nosing around
  21. Are the OP and I the only ones who still support the US postal service . I even cut a check to get my PM - reminder to self (send another check for next year the end of the week) I dislike credit cards, paypal - been a victim and an abuser I'd like to see a big DNF check
