  1. 1. Arriving on location, check the area - too many folks around? Next 2. On location - too many folks around? Next 3. On location - folks arrive? Do I feel comfortable? No - Next, Yes - have some fun. I will not waste my time on highly public caches, I do not like being the center of attention for you or others amusement.
  2. Cauz you broke the web. Got me? I use IE and everything works for me. Try deleting your history, temp files then smashing the CPU with a really big hammer.
  3. Look good and my first regular cache was in one of these. The foam seal was junk and even in a lightly covered location water still managed to get inside. Replaced the leaky cache with an ammo can
  4. school house rock - 3 is a magic number. I've got 1 multi and 1 puzzle and they each have 3 steps. The biggest multi I ever completed was 12 steps and was a major PITA. Another was 8 or 9 but used virtual stages for each step.
  5. HTML What the stuff is when you "view source" Creative cache containers Ammo cans ROCK (see above) I know everything else
  6. Have your friend hold off on logging found caches for a few days. The easiest way to see where someone has been is by looking at the found caches on their profile.
  7. alright - personal cache monkeys are a go I've at least been there when I sent my personal cache monkey(s) to get the cache for me.
  8. Not to drive this off topic but when I was a kid there was a metal picnic table in the park just across the street from the house. One morning I heard this terrible racket outside - it would go on for about 30 seconds then quit for about 2 minutes and this would repeat for about 15 minutes before I got up to look. Everytime I looked out the window nothing was there, well low and behold I saw what was making all the noise - a stupid woodpecker was going to town on the top of the metal picnic table
  9. Why over complicate the simple things - roshambo. Sharing is for sissies. Serious - no never, but first one with their hands on the cache found it first.
  10. The porcupine feeds largely on the inner bark of trees in winter, but it will also feed on a variety of other plants. During winter, although the needles and bark of most trees are acceptable, there are clear favorites: yellow pine in the west, white pine in the Great Lakes area, and hemlock in the northeast states. When the sap rises in spring, the bark of maples is favoured along with the catkins and leaves of alder, poplar, and willow. As more plants come into leaf, the porcupine will eat the leaves of herbs and shrubs, such as currant, rose, thorn apple, violets, dandelion, clover, and grasses. Particularly sought after are the succulent leaves of water lily and arrowhead, for which the porcupine will wade out into streams and even swim, its air-filled quills helping it to keep afloat. In the fall, it will eat beechmasts, or beech tree nuts, and acorns and is not averse to raiding cornfields and orchards. (copied from one of the sites) click the pictures to go to the sites, my vote goes with the porcupine

I would hope that someone would send out an email and wait at least 2 weeks before taking it. I've got 2 unsenames that are dormant but not forgotten. No activity, no history, no reply - fair game
  12. wow. not much more I can say. I'd pull the cache, not worth the long term trouble it could create. I'd delete the persons log, very very careless on their part.
  13. I like email use it for work on a daily basis and I have very different expectations for work-V-personal email, I despise trying to conduct minor business over the phone. I would rather have a record of the communication. Home is just for home. I think I have 4 or 5 names on my home email, very rarely send any home email. I do have a nasty habit of saving all GC related emails. Very rarely have I ever been contacted through GC but I do my best to act accordingly.
  14. I've seen porcupine do this but not as much. I've come across several and they like to hang out in Hemlocks. I've seen mainly smaller branches, not the trunk. link] another link
  15. Link to authors personal web site/blog where you could post a comment about his article bit more to the story there
  16. Depends on whats being attached. I'd use 2 part epoxy, an eye screw and a split ring. Set the eye screw in the wet epoxy, after it hardens attach your container of choice. Make it as durable and secure as possible so you wont have to go fishing later.
  17. hmmmm, not very practical but I have an urge......
  18. 3 miles one way, a very easy trip. I have not found that many long hiking caches in NWPA. My active caches involve a short hike of at least 1 mile one way. Most are 2+ miles one way. I've done a couple of long multis, one I put in 22 miles before I found the final and the other was just over 8 miles.
  19. K.I.S.S. Rule 1 - HAVE FUN Rule 2 - If all else fails use a compass Rule 3 - Cache with BrianSnat - cauz I can run faster
  20. Seen several "screamer caches", seen ones that have had fake bugs/snakes. Never had anything jump out at me, would be hard to reset it after each find (can't count on the cachers to reset it for you). My very first hide had a couple of distraction/decoy caches. I've always wanted to make a lamp post screamer. I've got the parts, just have not gone through with it, too many issues that would cause concern.
  21. I googled your coordinates.....Batavia area, right? ohhh fresh fish - hey noob nice to see another local posting . You need any help drop me a line, you should drop by NWPA geocachers (if you have not found them yet) Mainly geocaches around NWPA, there are a few others but not much interest.
