  1. How did I miss this one? I would have ordered one for sure. Wolf's Song (who will be 3 in August) is obsessed with anything outer space so I would have ordered one for him. I guess I'll have to look on the black market or try to trade something for it. LOL It's an awsome coin. You did a great job. We are hoping to visit NASA on our next trip to FL. My husband knows someone who works there (step son of Wolf's Song's godfather) so it would be nice to visit him too. I would love to go see the shuttle launch but Wolf says he heard on the news they are talking about moving it back. Hoping he misunderstood. We have a launch on DVR and we have to play it for our outer space loving toddler (preschooler?) everyday. He also wants the NASA kids site everyday. (He loves the rocket builder) Needless to say I will be on the lookout for one of these coins. Great work.
  2. I'm not sure. I didn't get notifications for that area. But it was in the city of Houston and just after I got out of my car another car came zooming in to the parking lot to go for it so I'm assuming it was pretty fast after it published. I just happened to luck into that FTF. We were driving down the road and I was looking on my phone for nearby caches. I told my husband there was one right around the corner and asked if we could get it. When I checked the logs I realized that it hadn't been found. I haven't had a new cache come up closer than about an 8 mile drive from my house since I started caching so it's not like going for FTF is easy. Most that I have gotten have been when I couldn't sleep in the middle of the night. The latest one is one I got was a couple of days after an event, when the coordinates were corrected and I wanted to redeem myself after a DNF on that one and 1 other.
  3. I'd love to see it in Florida. It's my parents 50th Anniversary next year and they are planning a big party a couple of weeks before that so we could likely extend our trip to attend. I think Orlando is a great idea because of all it offers to families if they want to extend their vacation. I'd love to roll a Disney trip in if I can make it. I was thinking Houston would be perfect, but they are already hosting the Texas Challange in 2011, so I don't think it's something they want to take on in the same year. It would be nice to see a Mega Event come southeast a bit.
  4. I'm starting to wonder if mine is ever going to be published.
  5. Email sent: yes Received Name: yes Outgoing Mission Sent: not yet Incoming Mission Received: not yet This is going to be harder than I thought. I'm off to see what I can find.
  6. Sounds like fun. I can't wait to see what you actually come up with.
  7. I’ve been sick with bronchitis and really down that it’s taking so long to get over it. At the point where you start worrying that the Dr was wrong and it’s something worse. I got the mail today and received the coin I won from yemon-yime. As I was showing it to my husband he told me Oh I forgot you have a package in the truck I think it’s another coin. I told him “I know we don’t have any money and I haven’t ordered anything, so it must be something else.” When he brought in the package I thought it sure does look like a coin, I wonder who it’s from? I looked at the label and it was my name. My heart started beating faster. Could it be? I heard of them, but I’d never gotten one. Excited now I told my husband “I think it might be a Mystery Coin.” He had never heard of them so I had to explain them to him. I almost expected the package to vanish but it was heavy in my hands. Heavier than the other coins I had. I enjoyed wondering what could be in the package for a little while before I finally opened it to discover the treasure it hid. It’s a beautiful coin. I smile every time I look at it. Thank you so very much the timeing couldn't have been better. We will treasure it. I’ll try to take a picture soon.
  8. Well I placed one today, but not the one I wanted to I've been down with bronchitis since last week and I’ve barely had the energy to get out of bed. I had a multi all laid out and all I had to do was go place the stages, but I was unable to make the walk to do it. I kept thinking the antibiotics will kick in and I’ll feel well enough tomorrow… Then I’d feel even worse the next day. Tonight I had to go to the store for some things and on the way home I placed this one in a spot I’d been considering putting something for a few weeks. It’s not the special one this contest deserves. Just a P&G but it’s part of my anti LPC campaign and is placed near where others might have placed one. I wish I could have done a really great one, because I love these coins. Now I’m going to see what others have placed. Thank you for the cointest. GC2AM85 ~ Silly Summer Solstice Stash
  9. This made me cry. It's so sad. I'm sorry that your dad was not there for you. No one should have such an awful father. In the end maybe he taught you the most important lesson of all. What kind of person not to be. Hugs.
  10. Like the idea, but no way could I afford all of them. Maybe the states I’ve visited if they were stretched out over time. There seems to be some confusion over what you meant by a set. I assumed when you said you were thinking about selling them as a set only, you meant the large and small size coin for each state, not the entire 50 states as some people seem to gotten. My concerns are will there be preorders? I think a big concern would be that someone might start collecting them and then miss a sale. While I know I couldn’t afford all of them if I did decide to collect certain ones I’d hate to miss one and have to resort to ebay to get it. Will there be the option of getting the map in the small or large coin size so that those who want to send on traveling can choose which? The fronts are really nice, but I don’t care for the back at all. Maybe if you broke up the color some. Red, white and blue states? Loose the states altogether and do a US shaped cutout of a flag? My last thought is to leave the back color free. But since I can’t see the coin in person and it may not look as bad as it does in the pic…. Those are my thoughts. I hope they are what you were asking for.
  11. We've had that happen a few times, but it always straightens out sooner or later. I’ve been sick (bronchitis) and it’s been great to watch the racer move. Not only our own but some of the others. I hate being stuck inside doing little or nothing. I really hope the new meds the Dr gave me will help. In the meantime I’ve been reading a lot of logs and trying a few puzzles.
  12. I was FTF on an ammo can with only a log. (Well they had put a camera for you take a pic of yourself, but no swag.) It was a bit dissapointing for my son 2 1/2 because I'd promised him he could trade something at this one and it took a while to find because the coordinates were over 200' off. I turned out it was the first hide for the CO and they had no idea that there was usually swag in an ammo can. Usually I try to have a few trinkets handy to bulk up a sad looking cache before he gets a good look inside, but since the cache discription said it was an ammo can I just wasn't expecting to need those and I let him open it. I also had my brother with me and it was his first time geocaching. Another reason I'd choosen an ammo can. It turns out this was the worst on I could have choosen because we had to drive around a huge area to figure out how to get into the place it was located. It was surrounded by a tall fence and businesses and my GPS was putting me on the wrong street for access. Mostly because the numbers were so far off. If it hadn't been for the hint we never would have found it.
  13. How exciting. I'm so glad you won. I missed that you were doing the random poster thing so what a nice surprise. I will love whatever you send. I've been sick and have barely had the energy to check online let alone getting out, so it was wonderful to see this. Now if I can just stop coughing for 20 minutes at a time. Thank you so much and Congratulations.
  14. I didn't read this as the OP having an issue with the hike or bushwacking, but with the fact that they couldn't find the thing after getting there and there wasn't even a clue to help. It is rather frustrating to go to all that effort and not find the cache after all that's what brought you there no matter how great the view or journey. As a matter of fact if the view or walk was what I wanted to be focusing on and I was searching for 45 minutes for a cache that was labled a 2 it would make me rather angry to find that it should have been labeled a 4 or 5. If I know it might be an evil hide when I leave that's one thing. But lets face it there are those who will mark one as easy to find and then no one can find it. Some of those CO's are being jerks. We all know that's true. But we've been around long enough to know to look at the number of DNF's before we attempt a cache so we know what we're getting into and that the cache might not be there. Something I wish I'd learned a little sooner than I did. Tips like that might be the nice thing to say, instead of assuming that they were complaining about the journey.
  15. If you are interested in pathtags try events. If you have nice ones to trade it's much easier to get some. I guess if you know cachers in your area who have some you could stalk them. By that I mean check for when the visit caches in your area and go there after they do in the hopes that they left one. Just make sure you trade even or trade up for them and keep in mind the cost of producing them. The few times I came across one and didn't have another one to trade I put items worth about $5 in the cache. We also have a pathtag hotel in the area that is trade for anther pattag only. Not sure how that is doing because I've only had a dup. tag once. Well twice, but I let my brother trade with it so he could find his first pathtag. Funny because he traded for the exact same tag. LOL Good luck in your quest.
  16. Not sure. If they were letters that others intended to share that would be fine, but I'm not sure about ones you just found. Seems a bit invasive to me. Maybe a better idea would be to put a few that you have permission to use and ask others to add to it. It might do best if you suggested people bring a picnic lunch. some wine and an open heart. I'm sure you will have some who won't like and some who will love it. I think you need to make sure all the letters are family friendly. Good luck with it.
  17. I love them. I agree shaped. Wouldn't care much about trackable or not. He's very talented.
  18. Don't let geocaching leave a bad taste in the mouth of the police department. Man up and go get your cache. It's not like they can't get your info and come find you. Sending that email made it seem like you have something to hide. Do you? Do you want them to decide to check out all your caches because you were being somewhat evasive about this?
  19. The terrain I would most likely rate a 5 because I don’t think that anything where someone is risking life OR LIMB attempting it without gear (as in a safety rope) should be rated lower. Sure you can rate it lower and there are people who will scoff at you for it, but there are many who will appreciate the fact that you rated it so that they were prepared that they either might have to come back with special equipment or they might decide not to get it at all. I wouldn’t be angry at someone who made one a 4 or 4.5 assuming they warned me on the cache page that a climb was required. But anything lower for 30’ up in a tree no matter how easy it was to climb and you are looking to upset a lot of people who can’t or won’t climb that high. Difficulty is harder without seeing the cache page. If it’s clearly visible and the terrain is rated correctly to indicate it might be that high I’d sat a 2 or 3. If you mark the terrain as a 3 or 4 and it’s hidden so you can’t see it from the ground I’d guess that most people are not going to climb that high even if it’s the only tree around. If they might have to climb 3 or 4 trees to figure out which tree it’s in then I’d say it’s a 5 by default. So yes it could be a 5/5 or it could be a 2/ 4.5 depending upon how you write it up.

    CacheOwl

Very nice. My Dad collects owls and I have a special fondness for them. Maybe sometime in the future I'll be able to get one.
  21. Email sent. I've never done a mission before but it sounds fun. Love wolves of course. Don't have any wolf coins but I know they are hard to come by, so I'm not expecting one. I don't have a seeking or trading list yet, but I don't have a lot of coins either. I'm partial to shaped ones but there are a ton of others I really like too.
  22. Almost did it. My 2 1/2 year old took the log out. Thankfully I noticed it when I got home from placing it and before I submitted it. Took a few days to get back and put it in and I was really wanting to get it published because it was my first cache. Glad I realized what had happened. Don't worry too much it makes a cute story,
  23. Actually because so many people mark nano's a other you have to block that too. Only there are a few that are very large or just an interesting container that are marked other that you will miss if you do that. It sucks to have to week thru 100's of mismarked nano's to find the few gems. I actually wish they would get rid of other, because in our area it's been abused so much by the nano placers. Some because they just can't get it thru their heads that a nano is a micro and others because they don't want to give people the power to weed them out. Even putting that they are a nano in the description doesn't keep us from wasting time. Even more than a new nano size to select I'd like to see reviewers given the power to the change size (or ask the CO to do so) when it's clearly mismarked. Of course the CO should have the right to appeal to the reviewer and if the reason is good enough they could let it stand. Actually if they just did it on other (they would need guidelines for other) it might help. I'm fine with other for nano's that listed as other when they are included as part of a multi or to a degree when there someone is rating it a higher difficulty and doesn't want to disclose the actual size. But the vast majority that I’ve seen said nano in the description. Shouldn’t someone at least gently suggest that they should change the size to micro and give those of us who prefer not to search for them back the power to leave them out of our PQ’s? Maybe even changing the micro size to nano/micro would help. Since so many people just don’t seem to get that nano isn’t other. And yes I do think that if so many people just keep putting out log only containers in easy places it will harm the sport. Sure there is a small set of players who go for numbers and love p&g’s but I think most people prefer to get a reward at the end of their journey. Rather it’s a cache with swag or a great view. I prefer the ones that give me both. If I do ever put out a nano it’s going to be as part of a multi. Too many of the ones today are for nothing but numbers runs. If I'd happened to run across a couple of dozen of these in my first weeks out I would have thought "what a silly game" and I'd have moved on. I'm sure there are a lot of people who have done just that and as the micros continue to take over areas I'm sure it's happening quite often.
  24. You don't read the boards much do you? I think this comes up at least once a week. LOL If nothing else it would keep the message boards from being so crowded with the same subject. Better yet it would stop all the people who can't get that a nano is a micro from making them as other. That is just annoying. But I wouldn't hold your breath. Still we can dream. Better yet we can dream people would not hide so many of them.
  25. I'd delete the log, even more so because they are claiming FTF and that is even ruder than fake logging an old one. I don't have an issue with someone couldn't sign because they forgot thier pen or the log was wet or even if one of my caches ever turns out to be too high for someone to reach, but they found it. or whatever else is a good reason. But I do have an issue with those who "never sign logs" or always forget a pen. those I would delete if I came across them. Once I saw this guy logged 3 and didn't sign any of them I'd take a picture of the log and delete it. If he wants to come back later and sign the log he can log it then. Of course it's up to each CO to decide how they want to handle their cache. Thankfully you have the power to do what you want.
