  1. I found the box and decided to go ahead and get rid of old ones cause i probably need to update some of my queries anyway.
  2. I have already loaded them into gsak. Should I load them again? and where exactly do I check the box on the first screen? and by doing this will I totally lose all previous pocket queries? I am really new to using gsak.
  3. I am taking a trip and I created to pocket queries based on my route. I have unzipped them and loaded them into gsak. But when I open gsak it has all of the way points from previous queries. Does anyone know how I can get just the trip pockets queries to show up in gsak so I can print out the list and take it with me? Also I only want to download those geocaches that are along my route into my nuvi gps is there an easier way than printing out the pocket queries list from geocaching.com and finding the name or codes in gsak and placing a check mark by it to load in gps. I know this probably sounds confusing but I really need help quickly I am leaving tommorrow.
  4. Thank you for all your help if you think of anything else I should kow please tell me.
  5. Thank you. I don't know how you guys learn to use all this. I feel I am somewhat computer literate on some things. I am assuming if you want to change the container size you would type in 1=micro,2=small, 3 = medium, 4= large is this correct. Is there a website, thread or book that teaches me how to use gsak? Because from what you have told me and what I have figured out gsak is the best way to go when loading your gps. What I fund that I thought was cool since her gps is not a paperless gps, in gsak I added the hints column and then printed out the cache list as it appears on her gps. This way she can see last for logs, container size, last log and other helpful info that she will not get on her gps.
  6. I am not sure I know what you mean by this. "Name" field on my 450 to get best use of the display space: %drop2 %con1 %dif1a/%ter1a %last4 %name and Waypoint Name" field: %drop2 and this for the "Waypoint description format (comments)" field: %con1 %dif1a/%ter1a %last4 %name
  7. Thank you so much. If there is any other important info about gsak I should know please send me a message or direct me to any other threads I should know. I have never used gsak even for my 450. I was sending pq's to my 450 without using gsak.
  8. I forgot to add that we have an oregon 450 so we have caches for us. But my friend got the summit hc for Christmas so she could take her girls out. But her computer was stolen so she is going to using mine for a while. Will this be a problem? I am creating pq's for her But I don't always want her caches in loading on my gps and that would be alot of looking in the gsak list.
  9. I downloaded gsak and got them to load onto her gps. Thanks! I have a question for you about gsak, once you download the caches to your gps do you then clear everything out of gsak. So that when you put in the next pq you don't have to hunt thru a giant list of caches to find the pq you downloaded or is there a way to sort the caches by pq in gsak?
  10. I still can not get them to load to the extrx summit. The only way I could get any geocaches to load was to go to the Garmin website and the g to my extras in her account. But there you can only load 5 per day.
  11. please help her kids want to go out looking
  12. My friend got a garmin etrex summit hc for Christmas. I am trying to download a pocket query to it, it is plugged into computer. Now how to I download them to this unit. I have never used one of these units. I have a oregon 450 and when I plug it into the computer it shows up when I click on my computer. Also can someone please tell me how to select the map to install in mapinstall when I click on the map a blue line around it appears but we keep getting a message no map was selected. HELP READY TO THROW OUT WINDOW!!!!!
  13. I gave it to a fellow geocacher.
  14. i hope not everyone is as clueless as i am
  15. I had a coin I had picked up that needed to go east so I gave it to someone to take back east. I know there is a way i can log this in the my inventory but do not know how to do this. Please tell me how to show that I have passed it on and no longer have it.
  16. could someone please help me? i have created my pocket query, i received the email so now what? do i click on the folder attachment with the zipper and when it asks me if i want to open or save do i save it to a folder on my computer if so then how do i download the file to my oregon 450?
  17. Thank you all for your help. We are going out this weekend to see what we can find. At least I have conquered a small corner of the oregon 450 gps world! Any other advice you could pass on would be great!
  18. so when I extract the files and it ask where i want to put them do i browse my computer to the garmin H drive and hit ok I just created a folder on my desktop called Pocket Queries. Then when I download the PQ's, I send them there. That way you don't have to have your Oregon attached to the computer when you open your e-mail. When you're ready to transfer to the Oregon, you can just Copy/Paste the GPX file from your desktop folder to your Garmin/GPX folder. Thanks for the idea
  19. hallelujah! by George I did it. Thanks When I opened up the geocaching on gps there was the list of geocaches is there a way of selecting the name I gave the pocket query? so when i name other pocket queries I can select the query i want to look at?

  21. Usually it's just a few minutes, occasionally the server gets bogged down and it takes a few hours. ok I got the email and I clicked on the link it opened a page on geocaching with my cache list. So now do I go to the bottom and select (check all) then do I plug in my 450 and select (download all waypoints) to put them on gps? it looks like I am going to have to go thru all 25 pages of cache list and go to the bottom and check the (check all box) I thought if I selected check all it would check all 500 caches. Am I missing something for an easier way to download to gps?

  23. I don't think so. I doubt that they have the Digital Elevation Model data in them. I downloaded the Arizona Topo, and it didn't have the 3D. did you ever get your 3D topo for the 450
  24. Once you get the caches and a decent map loaded into your 450 (I use a 400T with the included map and one extra free one), you'll be good to go without all of the extra stuff like Basecamp, etc. The cache descriptions that I get from pocket queries have the latitude / longitude information in them. I just type the lat / long into my Nuvi to get close to the cache (I don't usually go find caches that are buried miles into the woods), and I park when I get there. I then use the 400T to find the cache once I'm out of the car. I then use the 400T to find the next nearest cache and repeat the process once I'm back in the car. Good luck and have fun! when I select geocaching on the 450 and select find geocache I get a message that says try adjusting search parameters is this because I have not downloaded any pocket queries yet? I get the same message when I select various items in the where to menu. What do I need to do? I did download 2 caches that I had already found and we went out to find it again I did not show them in the find a geocache section but when I selected show found caches was that because on geocaching.com I had already logged them as found. I am trying to figure out how to adjust my search parameters like it asks. You are correct. When you downloaded them they were already marked 'found' Try calling up a cache page then, with the Oregon plugged in, click the 'Send to GPS' option. (if you need the latest Garmin Communicator plugin it should prompt you) This will send that whole cache page to the unit. If you want a bunch, get a pocket query, then open it so it is unzipped, then drag the GPX file into your Garmin/GPX folder on the Oregon. You can have up to 200 files containing up to 5000 caches (total) on the 450/550 or up to 2000 caches on the 300/400 The send to gps option is how I sent the 2 caches to the gps unit. I wanted to see how it works when out caching so that was why I chose to download 2 I had found previously so that I knew where I was going OK, then it sounds like everything is working correctly. If you want to navigate to an already found cache, select 'Geocaches', then 'Show Found' then select the cache you want to find again, then 'Go' at the bottom of the page. Now the unit is navigating. Press the 'X' to get to the main menu, then 'Map' or 'Compass' to get going. When you want to see the descriptions, just press the 'X' to get to the main menu then the 'Geocache' button and you'll be able to choose from 'Show description' 'Show logs' 'Show Hint' etc... There are a few cool setup shortcuts which depend on your personal tastes. I have different 'Profiles' for Automotive vs Geocaching mode. I like the 'Dashboard' for caching on foot but I use 4 data fields while driving. These settings are found under Settings/Map/Data Fields. The important thing is to try things and ask lots of questions...it seems like a lot at first, but the interface is pretty easy to use and you'll be an expert in no time! I just created my first pocket query and set it for today's date how long will it take before I get an email for them?
