The Leatherman is by far the best value. It's well made and has a great warranty. I have an old one and a top of the line Swiss with all the toots and bells. I carry the Swiss and keep the Leatherman nearby. I've learned not to wear an empty holster or case when going through airports or government buildings. They get all glassy-eyed and want to know what it's hidden up.

I just made up a system that worked for me. My second time out I took a clipboard and became "an inspector". Works really well if you're an "auld", fat, white-haired dude.

I've just found this wonderful site and intend to be as active as possible but here's a question for all you experienced folk. I've traveled for years with a GPS and created a sort of diary or log book of "fixes" as I call them. Would there be any call for a sort of GPS related puzzle such as "What are the rabbits made of at N 51 deg 30.519 min W 000 deg 10.551 min?" Please advise. Thanks

Being quite new at this, and having been on three local quests, I'm wondering just how much digging is expected. I am somewhat reluctant to go digging about in parks and other public places. Certainly the GPS (at the civilian level) won't take us to the exact spot but I must think I'm missing clues as to where to look or what to look for. Thanks
