  1. Like wiseye said, the kids are your cammo. Some caches I don't like because I feel so exposed. I wait on those until I get a chance to bring the kids. Curiosity and kids are like peanut butter and jelly. No one will think anything other than that you and the kids are having fun playing a game.
  2. Believe it or not I am being serious, can a person with permission have a hole dug and box/tube installed, then another individual come and hide a cache in said hole? The person placing or finding the cache did not have to dig a hole.
  3. Ok I finally found a spot and got it published. Any of you testers that would like to come get it may find it but you will have to rework the puzzle. http://coord.info/GC2KAK1
  4. 5.0 isn't odd and no odd doesn't mean beta for firefox. I am using the latest release no beta. Apparently there are tiles of the caches overlaid on the map and in firefox they are not always loaded or displayed, I can't figure which. But even with chrome there is a slight delay as if the tiles are loaded last. Does firefox deal with the tiles differently? Someone please help. If anyone here knows someone that created these maps or works on them I can help squash one more bug if they would ask me to try certain things. I really wish there were a place to report bugs! If it exists I do not know about it.
  5. I downloaded Firefox 5.0 problem still exists. I downloaded a portable version of Firefox 5.0 so that I could test it with all the options at default again. Still no go. Firefox and beta maps do not work on this computer. Can anyone help me?
  6. I found by wiggling the map with the mouse I can make some of the icons appear. Here is a pic of some icons showing only half way. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2215262/rawkhopper.com/images/betamaps.jpg
  7. Well so far nothing I do can consistently get icons back when using Firefox 4.01 on Windows 7 64 bit with Beta maps. I have trouble shot this as best as I know how and sometimes moving the map will bring back some of the icons and some of them will show half an icon. This is really annoying and I wish someone would help me fix this. Beta maps used to work perfectly for me but now it is useless.
  8. Well considering it happens to me in Ubuntu Linux it can't be an anti virus only thing because in linux I do not run an antivirus. My ubuntu box is working today though so I can't figure it out. I will try to disable the antivirus for a few seconds when I get home but since it works in IE9 and Opera and Chrome I doubt it is that.
  9. Well for me it never works in firefox 4.01 with windows 7 64 bit home premium and in ubuntu 11.04.
  10. Hello, sorry if this has been posted before but I cannot seem to find anyone having the same problem as me. I can not see any caches in Firefox 4.01 in beta maps. I can see them pop up for a second sometimes when zooming in and then out but they do not stay. I have tried uninstalling firefox and re-installing erasing all data and plugins but that did nothing. Safe mode does not work either. I can see caches in IE9 Opera11 and Chrome12 but not in firefox4.01. Anyone know why? Anyone having same issue? Remember this is with no addons installed and all settings back a default.
  11. No, it's not bogus. Just because they did not learn their phobia from you, does not mean they didn't learn it from someone. We are not born with a fear of bugs. Nor, are we born with a fear of policeman. Had either of these occurred, I might agree with you. But since there was no mention of flashing lights, and daddy should have explained away the no_apparent_reason aspect, (as opposed to overreacting), neither are applicable to the scenario. Well with no disrespect intended kids are indeed afraid of things that they have never seen. And even if the fear was learned from somewhere there is no reason to blame the dad. You said my kids fear may not have been learned from me, and I would agree, but I am the one trying to thwart a continuation of that fear. This dad may be doing the same. As for the flashing lights and guns on the hips, well I have never seen a policeman on duty visit a potential suspect any other way. I thought it was common practice.
  12. Heck, I'd be happy with 2nd! I never had much hope for a FTF before and it really didn't bother me, but this was so close, I saw it relatively soon after it was published and I was going that way anyways..... I got excited. Thanks everyone! I know what it is like to have a mediocre experience on the FTF. My first (of only two) was somewhere I frequent. So I was so excited, I got there only to find someone looking already. Then a few seconds after I found GZ I found it. I felt bad so I offered FTF to the other cacher since they were there first. They declined the offer graciously. It wasn't until my second FTF which was less than a mile from my house that I felt like a real FTF. I claim both but it was somewhat reluctantly. Although if I were the other cacher I would have declined as well. I just like things better when they are clear cut.
  13. First to sign is first to find in my book. Even if you stumbled on it by accident before it was finally published I still say you got first to find. Everything on a cache page is a clue and just because the coordinates a bungled (likely due to typo) does not change the fact that you were first to find and retrieve log and sign it.
  14. My guess is that any negative emotions the child has toward law enforcement officers came from the way dad acted around said law enforcement officers. In so many occasions, we inherit the brainless phobias of our parents. One only has to watch a child skin their knee at a playground to see this in action. The kid gets a minor injury, is a little freaked out, but maintaining his cool, till Mom screams, runs over, scoops him up and starts fussing over him. It's at that moment that the kid will invariably start balling his eyes out. His cries are less a reaction to the scrape, and more a reaction to mom. Heck, I've got a daughter who is scared of spiders. Why? She's never been hurt, or even threatened with a spider. But she grew up watching her mom scream to high heaven every time a spider crossed the room. Sorry but this is completely bogus. Fear of bees (or any bugs for that matter) is something I am trying to deal with my two daughters. I have no fear of bees and regularly kill them with my hands if I feel they shouldn't be there or are doing something that may threaten others. My wife pays them no attention yet my daughters scream bloody murder if they see one. They are only now starting to heed my words of not over reacting and just walking away calmly. We even reward them any time we see them not over-react. Kids are afraid of the unknown and if they see flashing lights and several men in uniforms dressed up with guns on their hips questioning daddy, for no _apparent_ reason, that very easily could be a situation that could cause a child to not trust law enforcement. With that said it was not wrong of the officers to come and try to find out more. It would have been wrong for them to not follow up on a citizens report in some way. Now knowing that this could be a false alarm the police need to proceed with extreme caution not to alarm anyone unnecessarily. It is in their best interest and ours.
  15. Thanks all for the help. Fizzy don't feel bad about the comment, I did not take it bad. It was actually the comment that started the change. Now I have to go out and find an actual spot to put it. It will take me a while but I can't wait. Last time I took the high end of fizzy's suggestion so this time I will take the low so the final puzzle will be a 3 difficulty. Everyone that commented raised the quality of this cache so thanks.
  16. Ok I got a new way of doing it put together. I skipped the step that seemed to be holding everyone up with the ASCII Braille. Same website just make sure to refresh your browser.
  17. Ok please hold while I go back to the drawing board. I have no proof this puzzle was solved. Those that were verbose in there responses helped realize that this was more complicated than it need be. I will rework the puzzle when I get a chance. For those that were curious look up ASCII braille on wikipedia for the answer. With that bit of knowledge it should an easy solve. I will post here with new puzzle when completed.
  18. Hehe real cryptic there! Anyway still waiting for someone to send me coordinates so that they can give me their opinion of the puzzle as a whole. Fizzymagic has me bummed that he thinks it is to tedious. I thought it would be fun but I guess each to his own eh? Well still hoping for an overall opinion and if someone solves it thinks it is to tedious maybe they can help me figure out if I should do it a different way. I may have an alternative if it everyone thinks it is too tedious. That was not my intent. I thought it would just be a trail of one thing leads to another that would eventually end in a solution that would not be too difficult. Oh well this is why I like to beta test. My alpha stage went fairly miserably so I thought I had all the kinks worked out except one. But now it seems we have revealed another!
  19. Yes there are no layers in jpg. Nor did I expect there to be.
  20. Please email me coordinates I would really appreciate being able to ask you a few follow up questions! Are You Bright Enough to Solve This? Well though it may be similar there are a lot more steps to mine than that one. I can't believe that one is rated a 4 in difficulty. Unless I am missing something it was very simple. I was planning on making mine a 3 to 3.5. Anyway I am still waiting on coordinates from anyone that solved it. Please email them to me rather than post them.
  21. I stopped working on the puzzle when I was presented with a tedious transcription task. That in itself is feedback. I dislike puzzles in which tedium is required. Sorry you didn't enjoy it. I didn't think it was that tedious myself but I will take that into consideration. It takes longer to make it than it does to decipher it though so maybe I am looking at it differently.
  22. http://pixlr.com/editor/ is all online and no additives needed. Assuming work isn't actual work
  23. Please email me coordinates I would really appreciate being able to ask you a few follow up questions!
  24. Oh I plan on having it on gc.com but I can't send someone to my unpublished page. I have the page ready I just need a home for the actual cache and confirmation that it works. So please email the coords and let me ask you a couple of questions.
  25. Cool can you email me the coords? I would like to ask you a few questions if you don't mind
