  1. There`s a lot worse things going on in phoneboxes that BT should concern themselves with. If you hate phonebox caches why would you bother finding them?? "security, regulatory and environmental issues". Why not go one step further than just agreeing with BT and get the enviromental agencies involved and ban plastic boxes being placed in places of beauty. You just cant dump your old fridge off on Dartmoor even with landowner permission. By agreeing with BT`s definetion of environmental issues a plastic tupperware box is technically the same. As for security, is having random strangers poking about in hedges and coming out with ammo cans not highly suspicious to the muggle public? BT are quite in their right to ban caches, that is their choice. But agreeing to the reasoning i find hard to understand when it could be applied to all caches.
  2. I dont see how there is a "complex issue" with this. Northern Ireland is part of the UK. Our taxes are collected by the UK. Our MP`s sit in Westminster. We use sterling. If your cross into Southern Ireland you use Euro. It has its own parliament.Any map has Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland as seperate countries. If you search for a cache in France, thats what you get, not Spain! If you buy something from China they reconise N.Ireland as UK for postage so its hard to believe anything else but laziness as the reason to include N.I. as Ireland. Ulster has 9 counties. 6 in Northern Ireland and 3 in the Republic. Why Geochaching use Ulster is a mystery to me. In mainland europe if you place a cache in Poland it is Poland, not Germany or any other country they happen to border! Rant over!!
  3. Summer 2009. Had arranged to meet workmate to pass over some paperwork at a layby/picnic area. He was late so had wee walk about killing time and i noticed a pile of rocks in the corner and something just seemed out of place. So had poke about and found this "lunchbox". Inside was a note explaning geocaching and bits+bobs inside. Did`nt think much about it and replaced. December 2009 and flicking through a copy of the Daily Mail someone had left behind in my van saw a piece on alternative christmas gifts, a gps being one and a description of geocaching. After Googling came across these forums. Liked what i saw but could`nt justify splashing out on a gps. Then couple months later noticed you could input co-ords into my car sat-nav! Not ideal, but got my first 5 finds with it, but by that stage hooked and went out and bought handheld gps!!
  4. I live in Northern Ireland if u would like to post to me. If your sharpish im heading down to Dublin at the weekend and could place it there.
  5. One more question. On my old etrex venture hc the map displayed all the geocache boxes, which was handy as i could see if i was passing any nearby when at work. Any ideas if i can display them all on the dakota? ******************************************** Ignore above...just realised what i was doing wrong!!!
  6. Just upgraded to a Dakota 20. Downloaded 1000 pq and converted to gpx. When i transfer to my Dakota they appear under waypoints rather than geocache icon. Anyway can send under geocache??
  7. Thanks for the replies. Have decided not to log find. It`s a 90min drive to cache so will have to let it go!! Dont worry, it was`nt a dry stone wall so no probs there. Thanks to all for advice.
  8. Located a cache today hidden in stone wall. Problem being it was in a picnic area and had chip van parked in full view of cache. I was standing 6 inches away from cache+could see it hidden in wall. Obviously i did`nt try to remove as would have been seen. Question is, can i register this as found?
