  1. Did you start watching a cache from the cache page ? You might be receiving emails from those. If you goto your watch list, you can put a check mark against them, and remove them from your list so that you do not receive any emails when they are updated. Goto Profile > Lists > Watchlist
  2. Indeed, just posting to support retiredSailor here. They way I posted was the way I would have read the equation, but if I am wrong, I do not want to be sending people off tangent. Indeed, after re reading the way I put it, after retiredSailor's explaination to me, my way would have been applicable if the equation looked like this : N 49° 52.((A + E) x (D + A)) E 008° 19.((B + C) x (D + A)) Note the additional brackets. It was a few years since I did maths study, so I am happy to be corrected, so others don't get lost. MarliedogUK.
  3. A little research tells me which cache you are trying to solve. I shall use the instructions from the cache page, but wont detail here which cache it is nor the code. The explination will use false data, so the actual puzzle is not solved here, you will need to go out to it to do it properly. On the first caches listing, there are instructions on how to find the next coordinates. Now the formula looks algebraic, but it really is easy to do once you have done it a couple of times. So, lets detail how to decipher it : I think the cache you are doing has the something like the following: On the first stage you'll find a ***** with a **** on it. Take the following letters from the **** and use the position in the alphabet to calculate the coordinates of the final: 5th letter = A 6th letter = B 7th letter = C 8th letter = D 9th letter = E Final: N 49° 52.((A + E) x D + A) E 008° 19.((B + C) x D + A) You already have the final coordinates, but you will notice that instead of numbers in some places, you have letters. What you have to do is substitute the letters for numbers which can be worked out by answering the questions or taking the information requested. You have been told that there is a something at the coordinates for the first cache. Lets assume that the thing you are looking for says: I love geocaching So first item on the agenda, take the 5,6,7,8 and 9th letter. E, G, E, O, C. So the initial instructions would allow you to determine the first requirement and give you this: 5th letter = A becomes E = A 6th letter = B becomes G = B 7th letter = C becomes E = C 8th letter = D becomes O = D 9th letter = E becomes C = E Next, take the letters you just worked out and get their positions in the alphabet. I.E A=1, B=2, C=3 etc, you get 5, 7, 5, 15, 3. So substitute the letters just taken for numbers in your chart: E = A becomes 5 = A G = B becomes 7 = B E = C becomes 5 = C O = D becomes 15 = D C = E becomes 3 = E Next look at the coordinates and substitute the letters for the numbers they refer to: N 49° 52.((A + E) x D + A) E 008° 19.((B + C) x D + A) becomes N 49° 52.((5 + 3) x 15 + 5) E 008° 19.((7 + 5) x 15 + 5) Now that is still not looking like a usable coordinate, but you see some simple maths in brackets. Do that maths and you should have your final coordinates. There are 6 equations there. Lets deal with just the N section first. Inner bracketed sums should be done first, to give you an answer to use in the next tier of brackets, so : N 49° 52.(( 5 + 3 ) x 15 + 5) becomes N 49° 52.( 8 x (15 + 5) we can now do the next sum 15+5 N 49° 52.(8 x 20) Doing the sum gives us: N 49° 52.160 Now the E section: E 008° 19.((7 + 5) x 15 + 5) becomes E 008° 19.( 12 x (15 + 5) then the outer sum: E 008° 19.( 12 x 20) which becomes E 008° 19.240 Which would give you a final coordinate of : N 49° 52.160 E 008° 19.240 Don’t use those though, they are for explanation purposes only.
  4. Perhaps there was one of those signs that flashes up your current speed, that are aimed at getting people to slow down in urban areas, there ?
  5. Thank-you aswell Isonzo. It arrived through the post now
  6. It is, but when creating the PQ, I select the "Run this once then delete it" option, which I am assuming doesn't need a schedule day as it is a selectable option away from the day to run. ** Edit : Ok, so selecting a day THEN the "Delete after running" option decided to work now. Thanks NordicMan, it seems to be doing what its supposed to now. I'm sure I tried selecting a day, then deleting after running.
  7. Ok, I am confused. I cant seem to get my head around Pocket Queries. I have read around the site and cant clear my confusion. I have just created a new PQ to update my SmartGPX, as a local cacher has just put a huge cache series up. I can see the PQ in my PQ list, but the ADD TO QUEUE button is not selectable. There is a time stamp for the last time a PQ that I ran, but that refers to a different PQ which I ran, that was deleted after running. As far as I understand the wording on the PQ creation page, I can only run a particular PQ, once every seven days, but I can have multiple PQ's running on different parameters during the seven day cycle.....correct ? Or am I miss understanding the text, and it means I can only run 1 PQ every seven days ? I have read around the site of people having multiple PQ's, so believe it is possible, but if we can't, why are we able to select more than 1 day in a seven day cycle on the queue page ? Anyone got a simple, layman's terms explanation of what i might be doing wrong. The FAQ's I have read don't seem to help. MD.
  8. I always have an old cd/dvd in my pack. Use it to signal to aircraft, provided its sunny ofc.
  9. If I log a 'Needs Maintenance' does the cache still list or does it 'lock-out' until the cache owner sorts it out. The reason I ask is that I went to a cache, which was wet. It needs a new log book, but I have placed an emergency one in there to be used by other cache finders until the owner can get to it. It is a nice cache so I dont want to inadvertently de-activate a cache which is still very usable. Thanks. MarliedogUK. P.S I assume I would log the find as Found It, then do an additional Needs Maintenance log ?

  11. If your in range on a Wireless Access Point that you can get access to, it should pick that and offer it as a connection. My phone automatically offers my WiFi over the Orange Network when I go online at home. Edit: Punctuation.
  12. Just to slightly take this thread on a detour, how do you find the 5800 ? I'm thinking about going to get one as it seems to be a decent phone from techie reviews and from the research I have done. But from a users point of view, your opinion is..... or ? MarliedogUK
  13. I'm very new to this game, but one of my finds so far was in a spot frequented by holiday muggles. Would it not be prudent for the geocache hiders to inform the local police department as well as getting permission from the owners of the location, of exact details and maybe even a photo of the cache itself for those highly frequented areas ? Okay, granted this might be overkill, but especially in these highly security sensitive times we live in, but at least when they get a call about a suspicious package, they might only need a drive by to ensure all ok. Maybe this has been done previously, but found to be negative towards the game, even having the cops demand removal ? Discuss. MarliedogUK
  14. I only have one FTF, but I'm happy because it was also my fist cache hunt.
