Historic landowner has very poor regard for geocaches
SXParx replied to geofaf's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Whilst you think that geocachers wouldn't do something as irresponsible as carve arrows into stones..... In a recent found log on one of my caches a cacher admits to trying to carve his nephews initials into one of the trees, nearly cutting his finger off in the process. The tree in question was in fact between 500 and 700 years old......... So not only an appalling example to set the child he was caching with, but criminal damage to our ancient woodland! Perhaps it would have been better if the cacher in question had actually cut his finger off to prevent him doing more damage to the environment -
Maybe I the world that time has forgot but not in the real world.

Not sure your bike will fit in my mini, unless we put the roof down

Sure the locals will help you out

Apparently the cache owner has sunk lengths of White pipe into the ground and placed the caches inside, so it should be obvious where the caches are or should be. Although I'm not sure how many along the Trail are like that.

Best UK online Geocaching retailer?
SXParx replied to taylor999's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Wouldn't buy a gps unit from them though they wouldn't sell enough to be able to offer the discounts large distributors like Handtech, Amazon and even eBay do. For GPS we have always found Handtech cheapest and really realiable -
Why are we quoting GAGB guidelines surely these will be Groundspeak guidelines for Urban caches in the UK..... So placed according to urban guidelines would do the job. Placing a GC number on a cache will only help if the container is returned in such a way as you are to able to see said GC code.......

Essex Country parks offer geocaching to schools at the 9 country parks in Essex. Kids and teachers who try it all love it. Had a HLF grant to purchase 40 GPS to use for the school sessions and to hire out to scout/youth groups, general public. -

I'd be concerned about taking kids to other people's caches...... Word spreads quickly and it only needs someone to tell the wrong person and that's a cache gone. We cache with schools scouts etc but have dedicated temp caches that are placed specifically for the sessions that way we aren't putting anyone else's caches in danger. Having said that if you are a cache owner and you are happy for them to find your caches go for it. How many GPS 's will you have access to and are they all the same very hard to teach caching to big groups with different GPS's and ki ds get bored quickly if they have to work in big groups. -
Well we know who you are and we think you'll do a smashing job. Did you have a good day up Goldhanger way today?
-
Think they are jus t London based, next cache in series due for release today. Did they actually retrieve the last lot of rubbish caches or are they still out there as rubbish?
-
Not a brilliant start. Wonder if they ever got back to Dorsetgal about accessibilty? Who is actually hiding the caches and recommending the locations?

  ooooh I think I've hurt myself !!! I'd be the last person to be invited to be a reviewer! About to start Internet campaign......McWomble for volunteer reviewer!
-
Only limitation of doing it for school groups is getting hold of a large number of GPS units (all the same model). Caching is abit boring with a large group all tagging along with only a few GPS's between them.

also thought virtuals were no longer approved - or have I missed a recent rule amendment?
