  1. I posted mine yesterday. For those of you who don't know what we are talking about: the official geocaching app for Android phones has an issue on certain handsets, including the HTC EVO. It's a battery hog - which isn't too surprising, and by itself would be no big deal. The problem is that it continues to drain the battery even after closing the app. Even if you go into the settings menu and "kill" the app, or use an app killer program, it still somehow manages to consume power. Lots and lots of power. The only way to stop it is to turn the phone completely off, then turn it back on. I bought a spare battery. $8 on ebay. make sure to buy only oem batteries.
  2. This one is so easy no more queries. Where ever you are it will pull up the geocaches. You can then download them.
  3. Can I use my cityselect with the new 76csx? If I can I will buy one. I have the 76cs and love it. However I want the newest and greatest.
  4. First I bought a Rino 130 love it. But what good is it without the matching rino to use the radio and locating features So I bought a Rino 120 on ebay. I now can keep track of my grandchildren. But all along the screen was just to small and to dark my old eyes have trouble seeing it. So I bought a new Garmin 76cs. Just got it today. Love it but...... no antenna so I can't pack it in my waist pack as I did with the rino letting the antenna stick out and mapping trails. Now I am so broke. I don't know what I was thinking. My grandchildren probably won't be able to go to college I would love a combination of the 2 rino and 76cs.
  5. I have a funny story. My nephew was in the woods behind river rd after the rains. His friend found an ammo box floating down a stream. He said to my nephew "this is in french it sais Geocachee> They thought it was a bomb and were very scared. . Then my nephew remembered some stories I told about geocaching and said throw it back it must be a floating geocache.
  6. A new worry. I have a Garmin Rino 130 these have locaters on them . Anyone with a 130,120, 110 can locate and follow me. These work this way. You can ask it to find anyone in range aprox 1 mile. It gives the coordinates actually shows them on a map. Farfetch maybe but can happen. I will still cache alone anyway But I will find the setting to shut this off. just a FYI
  7. I say to myself when geocaching alone " I truly doupt that some bad guy is hiding behind a tree in the middle of the woods for who knows how long in the hopes that a lone woman will come buy. More of a threat is walking down a sidewalk where a preditor knows that eventually a lone woman will surey come by."
  8. I to am a grandmother I am never scared when I bring my 5 year old granddaughter. I am the protector then but when I do go alone I do sometimes get the willies. My solution is I bring my mother, sister , nephew, friends, coworkers everyone loves geocaching but can't go often so invite everyone you know. I can almost get someone most of the time. Something I plan to do when the weather is better is go on my horse. I am never scared in the woods alone then. Must be because of those 4 fast furry hooves. thanks for the discussion It is good to talk about this problem.
  9. I downloaded GSAK did my pocket queries. They are in gpx form. Why aren't the hints there? every waypoint sais "Additional Hints (There are no hints for this cache)" I bought an Azim X30 it has an operating system of Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition I wanted to go paperless but I really need the hints. Is this possible?
  10. Any one interested in Geocaching with horses? I live in New Hampshire and also ride a lot in Massachusetts.
  11. I used to be a guide on horseback. 25 miles per day through the woods. How the heck did I do it without a gps?
  12. oops forgot one more thing. I can sit in the backseat of my kids car whith them driving and tell them thier top speed! They hate that. What fun.
  13. I use my gps for a number of things. 1. My ride home from work gets boring 33 miles. I plug in my home waypoint and follow the arrow. I found new ways home I never knew. Mostly it took longer but was fun. I do the same thing going shopping. it really is a lot of fun. 2, I trailride horses and use the gps to mark milage and speed. 3. I set up pace events which is a race on horseback and can finely get an accurate milage and also make maps marking the jumps with my gps and downloading them. Making accurate maps for people to follow. 4 I had planned to hide my grandchildrens xmass gifts in the snow and have them find them but I ran out of time maybe next year..
  14. I ordered the amazaon card and was aproved instantly I then ordered something and got my $30 off. All you need to do is change the preference to that card. It all took me about 10 minutes. I got the mapping software what a great savings, good deal.
  15. I bought velcro it works great! I can easily swap from truck to car. I had bought a vent mount but it kept falling off. An added bonus when I have the gps around my neck by using a lanyard i also hook it to velcro already on my jacket that way it doesn't bounce around as I am looking under rocks and things for cache. happy hunting.
