  1. Thank you! I'll give it a try. But let me ask you...won't that mess up all the rest of my text b/c it isn't in HTML. I did it in WordPerfect and just did a Copy/Paste for the rest of the text. Thanks again, FluteLlama
  2. Thanks, I'll try that. But will that HTML function then screw up the rest of my text? Would I have to go back and enter all of that into HTML as well? How tedious that would be. It's been quite awhile since I've done a webpage, so I'd have to refresh my memory of all the codes. Oh my...I hope I won't need to do all of that just for this one cache. Thanks again for your help. 3. How do you go about inserting photos, graphics, or tables into your Cache's page? I'm trying to get a Su DoKu puzzle (in table format) into the listing for my cache. But it won't copy in as anything other than just jumbled up numbers. I've tried taking a digital photo of the table, but that merely uploads into the GALLERY as a teee tiny blur instead of a table onto the Cache's page. Help! I'm stumped. What do I do? Signed, FluteLlama
  4. Well, I can add this... we found a syringe in the bushes right near a cache in a park in California. And a used condom nearby to it as well. At any rate, it might be a good practice to always wear gloves when you're out caching. Also, I have a special stick I use for GeoCaching, and that is what rakes through the leaves instead of my hands. All it takes is a little common sense about how to protect yourself. Anyone else out there have any practical tips to share? We all could learn from one another's experiences & life-lessons. FluteLlama in Califnornia
  5. I figure that any loose change a metal detector could find for me would help make my caching even more enjoyable. I've been thinking about getting one of those gadgets too, just for that. Go for it! FluteLlama
  6. I have an old Lowrance gps, eagle mappro. Any way the display pages are map, nav, status, and group. The nav page is the one with the directional arrow, ground speed, and distance to waypoint. I use the arrow page exclusively when geocaching. I wish I had a Garmin 76cs, just don't have that kind of money. nrune, to be honest, the reason I picked the 76CS is b/c the screen was large enough.... & the fonts could be made large enough....for my eyes which are starting to get a little on the older side. If I'd have been able to SEE any of the lesser models, I think I'd have been happier with them as a beginner's unit. This just has way more stuff than I really need for what I'm wanting to use it for. But I do know what you mean about the cost....it was up there. BUT, at least I can SEE it to use it. FluteLlama
  7. when you set a waypoint, put the icon as the geocache closed box and it will go into geocache mode. Robert, Where do I put the cursor onto the waypoint in order to get GeoCache Mode? Is it on the Map Page or some other page? I've been goofing around w/it to see if I could get it to do it & still can't yet. Thanks for your help, FluteLlama
  8. OK, another dumb question for anyone who uses the 76CS: How do I get the gizmo to go into GeoCache Mode? I was looking over the stuff on the link from Sputnik, and it has way more things there than I've learned yet. But one thing I tried several times to do is get my Compass Page to go into that GeoCache Navigation, and it just won't do it. The only thing I find on the GeoCache Setup page is to set the graphics for the FIND & the FOUND and then YES or NO for logging in the date found. I see no other way around getting it to take a GeoCache Mode. I'm sure there is someone out there who can help me with this, as I've read that at least someone has a Garmin 76CS besides the newbie HWyatt & myself. Thank you in advance, FluteLlama
  9. Sputnik, Thank you for the links. Let me ask you, or whoever else answers, if this COMPASS PAGE will still work if I haven't downloaded the coordinates into my GPS??? B/c what I've been doing so far is finding the coordinates on MapSource in order to drive to the area. Then, I have the cache's page printed out so I have the coordinates there & walk with them in-hand until my GPS says I've arrived at those printed coordinates. Once I find that spot, then I put in a Waypoint into my machine. Is this a bad way to do GeoCaching? Is it cheating to not download the coordinates first? FluteLlama
  10. HWyatt, do you ever get the feeling we shoulda started out with less GPS bells & whistles? I'm thinking that my 76CS is something I should've worked up to instead of tried to learn GPS & that machine as well. I'm adding in yet another newbie question: On the SATALLITE PAGE, it shows the coordinates for N&W on the right hand side, but on the left side of that there is something called LOCATION & it shows stuff like + or - 14ft. What does that LOCATION thing mean? I'm not finding it in my manual anywhere. FluteLlama
  11. nrune mentioned using the NAV SCREEN. Ok, maybe I'm just trying to drink in too much info too quickly & so missed something somewhere, but I haven't a clue what is a NAV SCREEN. I'm using the Garmin GPSMap 76CS.....can someone explain the nav screen to me? Thanks in advance, FluteLlama
  12. Another newbie question: What does it mean when it says MAGNETIC for a cache description? Is it just that the container is magnetic & so could register on one of those magnetic detectors? Or does it mean something more in GeoCache terms?
  13. I take my GPS along, but frankly, I use the MapSource software to find the coordinates & that usually suffices. It gets us to the area at least. Then we can begin searching around that area. But, yeah, you'll be having great fun once you really get cookin' with the GPS. FluteLlama in California
  14. Thanks, Prime Suspect. I'd not stumbled onto that Lexicon page before. Now a whole lot of things are becoming a little clearer. Thank you again.
  15. I bought the Garmin GPSMap 76CS. Maybe I shoulda gotten an E-Trek or something a little less sophisticated & then work my way up later. Oh well. I was looking for a screen large enough to really see with baby boomer eyeballs. Anyone out there have one of the 76CS?
  16. WildGooseChase, what is a MOC? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm new & haven't been able to find the answer.
  17. Why would there be a greater change for mistakes? Is there something more in the downloading of coordinates than merely just the lat/long?
  18. Being new to all this, I just typed in the coordinates for the GeoCaches I'm thinking of hunting for. I typed them into my MapSource City Select & then assigned them Waypoint names that were really just the Cache's name. Then I uploaded the Map softward into my GPS. Will this still work? Does this have the same result as downloading Coordinates from your website? Sorry to be so lame, but I'm new to GPS.
  19. But I'm not in the SouthWest. I'm in Northern California. Judging by our weather here lately, I certainly wouldn't claim we're in the Southern portion of the state. Brrrr. Is there a SF Bay Area Region? Or perhaps a Sacramento Area Region? Better still, a NorthBay Region, which would be more accurate really. By the way, thank you for your help too.
  20. Hi Markwell, What is the purpose of receiving the notification? Is there then something I would need to do once I received this notification? Or is it just sort of to feel good that you made someone's day by providing them with a Cache to find? FluteLlama
  21. Is there anyone in the Fairfield/Suisun area who could mentor or tutor a newbie. I'm new to GPS, not just to GeoCacheing. I think I bought a unit with toooo many bells & whistles, so I'm sorta confused. But I'm a willing learner. FluteLlama
  22. Ok, I'm a total Newbie to GPS let alone GeoCaching. I'm still just trying to figure out how to use my unit. So, I have LOTS of questions, but I'll just ask right off: What does it mean to WATCH a Cache? Does it mean you're going there to check on the Cache & make sure it's still there? Or is is online? Or just what? Signed, FluteLlama
