  1. Nope. The location is chosen by a committee consisting of JoGS, the founder of GeoWoodstock, and delegates from the past two cities that hosted the event. I think an event out west would be good ~ something with a west coast flare. Beaches or some such. Oh... well see that shows you how much I know!!
  2. I was just curious, not being critical. You do have a point! I wasn't invovled with North Carolina's bid, but the way I understand it the bid process is open to everyone and then Groundspeak chooses the best bid. Maybe there have been bids from further west, but not chosen for some criterion we mere cachers are not aware of!

  4. And I would have to agree with FF, I'd love to travel to the west coast too. Maybe this thread will convince someone from out there to put in a bid for GeoWoodstockVI
  5. Why do you care you are from Louisville, KY. You have been pretty centrally located to all the Woodstocks to this point. TN, FL, TX and now NC! Edit: Not to mention, the first in Louisville, KY!
  6. And please don't group me with those number poachers, I am too much of a stickler for playing the way the game was intended. If you don't physically find the container and physically sign the log, don't log it on gc.com as a find; if you hid it, don't log it as a find, (how gauche!); if you have already found it and re-visit for some reason, post a note about it, not another find!!! The persons in charge have created options to make a note, log a DNF, et cetera! USE THEM!!!
  7. Playing your game is fine until it screws fellow geocachers and logging bogus finds can do that and has. I can totally understand your ire and frustration at a situation such as the one you describe and my post had nothing in reference to the fact that someone posting a bogus find or not posting their did not find causes much more work for us; I totally agree with that fact, but it is a different topic. My post was in reference, however, to the fact that it seems whenever ANYONE, regardless whether they are a number poacher or not, posts ANYTHING in reference to numbers, the thread turns very nasty; in fact, I haven’t read too many threads lately that haven’t had some nastiness involved. (Although, I read one yesterday that was very amusing, something about placing a cache that looks like a pipe bomb.) Any way, the point is instead of jumping down every persons throat about numbers being bogus, why can’t we look at and point out the positive things about geocaching. Seems that everyone is so busy pointing their finger at someone else that the forums aren’t useful, relevent or inviting any more. Oh and by the way, off topic, how did you send me an e-mail with the post response?? (Or does it do that automatically if you quote someone???)
  8. Well, again, I find a completely honest, unassuming post turned into a place for others to voice their complaints about what other people are doing. Sure it should probably be read that some people are playing the game in different ways than may have been intended. But most people are able to draw their own conclusions to that point. All the complaints and bickering brings to mind the saying, "those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones." I for one like looking at my numbers and the numbers of those I personally know. Although, I have created a little personal competition, for myself; the others don't even know their in it or at least I haven't told them. If they happen to get more finds, good on them, I sit back and smile for them; then I push my goal for the next week, month or year. The whole thought of looking at anothers stats and researching whether or not it is an individual or team, whether it is feasible that they could possibly do that many caches, et cetera, is just too time consuming and petty. There is really no reason for me to get my heartrate up over it. If it makes them happy to play the game the way they are, then so be it, they will have to live with themselves! It really doesn't affect me one way or another. Just play the game to the best of your ability and enjoy yourself! SYOTH
  9. How amusing! By the way, Canadians need to be concerned with terrorism too!!!
  10. Also a little off topic - Could someone explain this to me, if I purchase an update, will the software update properly even if I don't have an interim update?
  11. Same thing happened to us today! Finished logging all our finds yesterday, then ran the My Finds PQ today, this afternoon. I have used CacheStats successfully for several weeks, but this week when I uploaded the PQ to CacheStats it showed my previous find count with an updated "unique" cache count. Ours also showed us having started 1/1/2000, when Geocaching wasn't even in existence! Made me think that there was something wrong with the PQ itself, not the CacheStats program. I uploaded the My Finds PQ into GSAK and found that it did not have the log information for the caches we found yesterday, causing our found count to appear as it was previously. Interestingly, though, my stats on gc.com are current. So then I thought maybe there is just some lag between the servers; now that I see I am not the only one experiencing this problem, I am convinced that must be it! Curious that the PQ is loading all our first finds on 1/1/2000, must be a database default!
  12. 1-Step Closer and Taliban Hunter, I can't remember if we congratulated you on any of the other group forums or not, but, let us take the opportunity now! CONGRATULATIONS to Benny, Jr. for his accomplishments! Jeremy says the coins okay, SO, it's okay!! It is a shame that people can't stay on topic and see the post for what it is, a father proud of his son being recognized by the President of the United States. As you said TH, Too Cool!!!! Great honor for a young man to continue building his character upon! And thanks go to his parents for instilling the values in a young man who will continue to give to others, whether he was recognized or not!
  13. If you think this area is bad, you need to visit Savannah, GA. Talk about Micro he((. I think the micros in this are are pretty tastefully done. MOST micros in this area are done in place where, if a geo-muggle were to run across an ammo can, they might think it was something malicious. TPTB won't let us place caches on Fort Bragg, even if the area is accessible by the general public, without entering a checkpoint and normally used as a recreational area. I only knew of one on greater Fort Bragg, near Texas Lake, but I think it has even been archived. I will agree that A FEW micros are placed in areas where a "regular-sized" cache could go. But all in all caches in this area are good. And oh, by the way, I have cached a few areas (and states) other than the Sandhills area and NC. We all have to remember, is the spirit of the sport being served. My suggestion search for caches YOU are interested in. It is not necessary to debase the entire local geo-community because you are angry about a few micro-caches.
  14. There is already a disc-golf locationless cache category. I think that will probably get first dibs as the Waymark category if the owner chooses to transfer it to that site instead.
  15. I agree it would be nice to have a consolidated page to view these stats. Why not have a central stats page where everything can be viewed and break it down into different categories? There was no problem showing my account page on both sites! In the end it would only promote all the possibilities that Groundspeak has to offer!
  16. I know this thing just started and I logged in tonight to have a look around. When I went to the "My Account" page, I noticed, to my chagrin, that my e-mail address was visible. I immediately went into the "edit my details" to click it off, however, the box to make it visible was already unchecked. Is this something that is only visible to me since I am logged in and not visible to others, or is my e-mail being broadcast on this site? Thanks. abn1 of abnduo&spawn
  17. Boy am I glad I looked through the forum before I got frustrated attempting to set up a new locationless. I have a great idea too, at least I think so, and I was looking for ways to set one up in the forums when I ran across this post. Hope they open them back up, locationless caches are fun to do as any other cache!! Cache on!
  18. Congrats to Hambone on the milestone. If I'm not mistaken & in case no one else has noticed, Medic208 is to be congratulated as well, he hit 1K recently as well!! CONGRATS to HAMBONE!!! Cache on!
